Abstract

As it has been widely known that the spectacular characteristics of nanomaterials are strongly dependent on their particle size, crystal structure, and molecular arrangement. The fine structure formation of nanomaterials is inevitable in an attempt of optimizing their promising applications in various fields. One of the notable nanomaterials up to now is hausmannite or Mn3O4. This paper presents a combination of coprecipitation and sonochemical routes in a concurrent way to produce spinel-structured hausmannite nanomaterials. The pH was varied during the synthesis at values of 9, 10, 11, 11.5, and 12. The crystal structure properties were evaluated by X-ray diffractometry (XRD) with the diffraction angle range of 15° - 80°. The functional groups were investigated by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometry having wavenumber from 400 to 4000 cm-1. In this study, pH 10 was found to be the best synthesis parameter in producing Mn3O4. Both XRD and FTIR data analyses have agreed on the formation of spinel hausmannite nanomaterials.

Abstract

AbstractSACRED SCIENCE VS. SECULAR SCIENCE: CHAOS OF RELIGION AND SCIENCE RELATIONSHIP. This paper seeks to know the struggle that occurs between Religion and Science. The hypothesis forwarded is: the relationship between religion and science experiences tensions and variations. The tensions between science and religion are mostly due to the different perspectives used to understand the reality as a source of human knowledge. While the science approaches the problem of the existence through observation and experimentation, religion, on the other side, bases its epistemological foundation on revelation. From the 19th to the 20th century, the idea that science is capable of resolving the whole problem of man was really dominant , leaving aside the fact that science has given birth to mass-destructive weapons and environmental pollution and has undermined the balance between the spiritual and material aspects of human life. Later, a number of theologians and religious scientists emerge, seeking the ways to solve the problems of humanity and nature and trying to bridge the tangled relationship between science and religion.Key words: sains sakral; sains sekular; teistik; ateistik; kreasionisme.

Abstract

Disaster mitigation has been undertaken to reduce the impact of loss or damage caused by the earthquake. For disaster mitigation purpose, it is necessary to conduct a local geological assessment. The horizontal to vertical spectral ratio (HVSR) of microtremor analysis is very popular in the context of seismic micro-zonation. Microtremor method is cheap, data acquisition is easy, and does not cause noise, so suitable for use in residential areas. This research aims to determine the distribution of the natural frequency value, the amplification factor value, and the soil vulnerability index value. This study was conducted geographically between 7°26'17.45" – 7°26'53.16" S and 111°47'14.76" – 111°48'7.06" E. Data processing using HVSR analysis method on Easy HVSR software. The results showed that the natural frequency (fo) values range 0,95 Hz to 8,3 Hz and the amplification factor values range 2,05 to 8,67. From the result data of the natural frequency and the amplification factor, the soil vulnerability index can be calculated. The vulnerability index (Kg) value ranges from 1,09 to 68,33. The northeast side of the study area is indicated as a weak zone where have high potential to damage when the earthquake occurred.

Abstract

Abstract

This paper attempts to shed light on the context of religiosity which is very pluralistic and dynamic in Indonesia. It is based on the field research conducted in Singkawang focusing on the Chinese religion. Some important conclusions could be drawn here such as the syncretization of the Chinese religion concerning the understanding of the existence of God and the gods which often has overlapping hierarchy including syncretic perspectives on understanding cosmology, mythology, symbols associated with mystical tales and supernatural beings. In the process, many Chinese Indonesians in Singkawang who are demographically Buddhists, Christians, or Muslims, still perform a pattern of worship of Confucianism or Taoism in their daily lives. The procedure of worship has also been modified so that its format differs from that found outside Indonesia. Meanwhile, during the celebration of the Chinese lunar new year and Cap Go Meh (the fifteenth night), Chinese Indonesians in Singkawang perform a ritual to get rid of bad luck. It is a unique, syncretic ‘collaboration’ between Chinese traditions and local culture. Keywords: Syncretization, Religion, Chinese, Singkawang.

Abstract

In general, people of West Kalimantan have slight understanding relating to the existence of Baha’i religion. They built some stereotypes and judgments based on interaction and daily communication with Baha’i followers. This research focuses on how the under-graduate student of State Institute of Islamic studies (IAIN) Pontianak perceive and understand Baha’i during the class of Interreligious Communication (Komunikasi Lintas Agama). Dealing with the under-graduate student of the seventh semester, this research aims to analyze such paradigm construction through Thung Ju Lan idea of “foreigners” and “cultural differences”. This research found that students have constructed their perception on Baha’i through theological denial or cultural assessment of other religious tradition.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This article attempts to describe the phenomena of spiritual quotient by referring to several stories which still contain unrevealed secrets in the Qur‟an. Spiritual quotient is a form of intelligence that uses spiritual process or in the Islamic mystical term called irfani. Moslem great mystics in the past used irfani method to elaborate Allah‟s secrets in the Qur‟an. The method of understanding Quranic verses using the irfani medium is called irfani interpretation method. By using this method, Sufis interpret Allah‟s verses based on their thought, behavior and spiritual light. Undeniably, those Sufis were also influenced by their own culture or cultural characters such as those of the Persian, Indian and Greek. Islamic mystics who usually used this method in their interpretation of the Qur‟an were Ibn „Arabi, Mansur al-Hallaj, Jalaluddin Rumi, Imam al-Ghazali, Syihabuddin Suhrawardi al-Maqtul, etc. Thus, revealing the Quranic secrets not only followed the procedure of interpretation that had existed before, namely naqli and aqli interpretation, but also used spiritual ability and spiritual quotient. They (Islamic mystics) not only see and understand the literal meanings but also the spiritual meanings of Allah‟s message.
