Abstract

Abstract

Demand for maize in Indonesia keeps growing due to low maize production, while consumption keep increasing (excess demand). The situation creates scarcity in maize and leads to the commodity’s high price. This study aims to analyze the supply response of maize farmers on the changes of input and output prices. This study also examines the supply response of maize farmers in Indonesia by using Error Correction Model (ECM). The study uses secondary data. Results of the study shows  that supply of maize farmers is influenced by price of soybeans, wages of labor, prices of seed, of urea fertilizer, of feed, and of imported maize. Maize farmers are also responsive to changes in maize prices and therefore the policy of maize floor price can be re-applied to support the national food self-sufficiency. In addition the input subsidy and land expansion policies are still necessary to increase maize supply.

Abstract

High price fluctuations in onions can cause prices at the consumer level to change in a relatively quick time. However, the price change is not necessarily enjoyed by most of the onion farmers. This implies a high marketing margin and low farmer prices. This study aims to analyze the integration of onion consumer market with onion producer market in Indonesia by using VECM (Vector Error Correction Model). Monthly onion price data with 48 time series period is used to analyze the onion market integration. The results show that only the consumer market that affects the market of onion producers (one way). There are short-term and long-term market integration between the consumer market and the onion producers. However, changes that occur in the consumer market are not always accepted by the onion producers of the same scale. This shows that the price information of onion in the producers market is not always transmitted perfectly to the onion producer market.

Abstract

The decline in national sugar cane production from 2015 amounted to 2.4 million tons and in 2016 amounted to 2.2 million tons. One of the reason for the decline in sugar cane production is the proportion of Ratoon Cane (RC) which is relatively high compared to Plant Cane (PC). The objective of the study is to analyze the technical efficiency of farming between plant cane (PC) and ratoon cane (RC). The method used in sampling farmer households is purposive by considering there is no sampling frame available in the study area. Data analysis method using the stochastic frontier production function model. The results showed that the plant cane farming (PC) was more technically efficient than ratoon cane (RC) with an average value of PC sugarcane technical efficiency of 93 percent and an average sugarcane technical efficiency of RS by 89 percent.
