Abstract

Abstract: The objective of this research was to know the effect of the learning models on the learning achievement of quadrangle viewed from the multiple inellegences of the students. The learning models compared were the cooperative learning models of the TSTS type with peer tutor, the cooperative learning models of the TSTS type, and the direct learning models. The kind of research is quasi-experimental research with factorial design 3x3. Population of this research is all students of State Junior High Schools in Kebumen. The sample of this research is 288 students which is 95 students in Experiment I class, 96 students in Experiment II class, and 97 students in controlled class. The hypothesis test uses two ways analysis of variance with unbalanced cells. The result of the research shows that: (1) TSTS learning model by peer tutor shows the higher achievement of students than cooperative learning model of TSTS. The cooperative learning model of TSTS results as good as the direct learning model, and TSTS learning model by peer tutor results higher achievement than the direct learning one, (2) students with logic-mathematic linguistic, and interpersonal intelligence have the same achievement among them, (3) at TSTS learning model by peer tutor, TSTS learning model, and direct learning model, students with logic-mathematic, linguistic, and interpersonal intelligence have the same result, (4) at students with logic-mathematic, linguistic, and interpersonal intelligence, TSTS learning model by peer tutor results higher achievement than TSTS cooperative learning model; TSTS cooperative learning model results as good as the result of direct learning model; and TSTS learning model by peer tutor results higher achievement than the direct learning model.Keywords: TSTS learning model by peer tutor, Two Stay Two Stray, achievement, intelligence

Abstract

Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) or in another word collaborating computer with the classroom component to enhance language learning has a long history of pedagogical development since 1950 until nowadays which started with the simple program into microcomputers. It covers all learning processes using computers which advance the language skills of the learners. In the language courses, CALL is implemented by using several applications but this essay will solely mention 8 applications out of many. The study cases prove that those implementations offer several great values toward academic life. However, in order to achieve successful implementation, the pre-conditions or requirements of the CALL implementation must be fulfilled. In Indonesia, the advent of some hindrances such as cost, teacher trainings are the main issues to fulfil those requirements. Alternatively, several recommendations are proposed to refute the problems such as schools and local government cooperation, customisation learning technology and peer school teaching. Keywords:  CALL; Language Learning; Elementary and High Schools

Abstract

This article attempts to analyze William Somerset Maugham’s novel entitled Liza of Lambeth. This novel tells about Liza who is loved by two men, Jim and Tom, who want Liza as their lover, so they make some efforts to get her. This article focuses on analyzing the male characters’ struggle to attract Liza. The aims of this article are to describe the main characters’personality and to reveal the quality of the male characters’ struggle in the novel. Dealing with the focus of the study, this study uses theory of character as the basic concept to lead the further analysis using existentialism theory to depict the male characters’ struggle, and it is supported by theory of interpersonal attraction. For the last, the main point of this study will be directed to theory of deconstruction which reveals that everyone who works hard is not guaranteed to be a success. Furthermore, this paper also  tries to reflect some points with Islamic value.

Abstract

Di era global saat ini lulusan politeknik harus bersaing semakin ketat dengan semakin banyak pekerja asing yang memiliki kemampuan komunikasi yang unggul. Agar lebih unggul, lulusan politeknik wajib menguasai bahasa asing internasional yaitu Bahasa Inggris sebagai persiapan mereka memasuki dunia kerja. Namun pada kenyataannya, skill Bahasa Inggris yang dimiliki oleh mahasiswa politeknik masih kurang, terutama dalam keterampilan berbicara (speaking) dan menulis (writing). Beberapa faktor yang berpengaruh dalam peningkatan kemampuan Bahasa Inggris di pendidikan vokasi adalah metode pembelajaran yang interaktif dan penggunaan teknologi yang tepat untuk memotivasi mahasiswa dalam belajar Bahasa Inggris. Oleh karena itu peneliti ingin mengembangkan aplikasi ?Technical English? berbasis Android yang telah ada dengan menambahkan fitur listening, writing dan toeic-based quiz untuk mendukung pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris Teknik di politeknik. Aplikasi ini diharapkan akan menjadi media pembelajaran yang dapat meningkatkan speaking, writing, dan listening skill mahasiswa dalam berkomunikasi menggunakan istilah-istilah di bidang Teknik. Materi Bahasa Inggris Teknik dalam aplikasi ini juga didukung oleh visual gambar yang menarik dan menunya disesuaikan dengan setiap Program Studi. Sehingga, dengan aplikasi ini mahasiswa diarahkan agar lebih termotivasi dalam belajar Bahasa Inggris diluar kelas seperti halnya ketertarikan mereka terhadap permainan atau games online. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pengembangan yaitu mengembangkan aplikasi ?Technical English? berbasis Android untuk memudahkan mahasiswa dalam belajar Bahasa Inggris Teknik. Software yang digunakan penelitian ini adalah React Native dan metode pengembangannya menggunakan model System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) dengan pendekatan Waterfall.

Abstract

This study aims to provide understanding about students? perceptions of the benefits of blogs in English language learning and their challenges in authoring blogs. Unlike standard websites, blogs provide free and simple platforms that can be used by students without knowledge of computer language. Blogs can be considered as a new authentic English language learning environment in which reflection and collaboration take place. In addition, this study explores the benefits of blogs in English language learning. Furthermore, it investigates the challenges in authoring blogs that potentially define the gaps between students? perceptions and blogging practice in English language learning. This study involves three undergraduate students at the State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga. It is conducted by using two stages of semi-structured interviews through Skype. The findings from the data analysis outline that the students perceive blogs as a beneficial application for English language learning in the areas of writing, reading and communication. However, they also admit that challenges remain in authoring blogs, such as performance fluctuation, self-confidence and aspects of technology. From the findings, there is a suggestion to formulate strategies in order to counteract the challenges. Thus, the use of blogs improves the quality of English language learning in any future practice.
