Abstract

The mosque is an important witness in the spread of Islam and the shift in religious thought in the community. This article attempts to examine the role of one of the Sultan Mosque in West Kalimantan, the Sultan of Sambas Mosque. This study uses the approach of religious archeology which is supported by tracing the history. The findings of this study found: 1) the existence of Sultan Sambas Mosque are witnessing the present  of Islam in West Kalimantan and the architecture of this mosque perform of the accumulation of these objects makes Sultan Sambas Mosque is a symbolic fusion of cultures of various countries. Therefore, cosmopolitan culture already visible in the architecture of the palace mosque Sambas. 2) Sultan Sambas Mosque play an important role in the renewal of Islamic thought in West Kalimantan. Abstract

This study examines the use of the Arabic alphabet in religious literature in Yogyakarta. This study uses a case study on three figure writers of religious texts that using the Arabic alphabet in southern part of Central Java (Yogyakarta), namely Asrori Ahmad (Magelang), Ali Maksum (Yogyakarta), and Ahmad Mujab Mahalli (Bantul). This study concluded that the writing of religious texts in Arabic alphabet in the southern Java area had been carried out by means of using Arabic Pegon, and only a few people who wrote in the Arabic language. The transmission of Arabic Pegon in Yogyakarta is allegedly from north coast of Java, especially from Lasem / East Java. The tradition of Arabic language teaching in the pesantrens still focuses mostly on the reading effort, communication, and understanding and it is not oriented to the writing skill. The presence of international journals initiated by the College of Islamic religious institutions and the effort of translation business into Arabic from certain institutions gives an opportunity to strengthen the use of the Arabic alphabet in Indonesia.

Abstract

The community of Tionghoa muslim in Indonesia is a unique phenomenon. They are minority in number while they are also under minority tribes as Tionghoa. The uniqueness of them they hold onto majority religion in Indonesia.  The existence of this community was up and down in history. This study found the fact that there are cultural growth and identity in the present day, especially in the case of West Kalimantan. They formed the organization, adapted and has obsession to build Mosque with Tionghoa architecture. They plan for building Cheng Ho mosque.  Keywords: Muslim Tionghoa, Culture, and Identity.

Abstract

Implementation of multicultural education in madrasas is a very interesting topic to present in this paper, considering the characteristics of learners which can be said to be more homogeneous than the secular schools. In general, the multicultural education has become necessary to be applied in educational institutions with heterogeneous learners, especially in terms of their beliefs. Multicultural values taught in school will be more easily practiced in the social life among such heterogeneous students. But this is not the case with homogenous madrasas. The development of multicultural values in madrasahs will call for its own concepts and strategies.Using a qualitative research approach with in-depth interviews as the main data collection instrument, this paper tries to formulate multicultural education conducted by the Madrasah Pembangunan, Ciputat, Tangerang, by seeing how the context, concept, and its implementation in educational systems are organized. The findings include, among others, the facts that multicultural education in madrasah is nothing new because multicultural values have been taught in many subjects there. These multicultural values are developed and introduced and required by the students in Madrasah Pembangunan to deal with heterogeneous members of society such as the values of tolerance, empathy, cooperation; and four main properties of Muhammad Rasululllah (Genuine, Trustworthy, Authentic, Intelligent). Other values include confi dence, quality work and competitive.

Abstract

Pesantren Al Mukmin Ngruki Sukoharjo is often cited as an inspiration for radical Islam in Indonesia. This research examines the reproduction of religious understanding and the response to allegations of radicalism addressed to Pesantren Ngruki after the Bali bombings of 2002. This study includes qualitative research with case study approach. This study argues that a radical view of Islam can not be separated from social and historical context of this Islamic boarding institutions. Currently Pesantren Ngruki has undergone some changes in the orientation of education resulting from multiple causes, which are not limited by the case of Bali bombings only.

Abstract

AbstractMadrasah in some Southeast Asian countries have a unique position, besides being as a place of teaching and educating Islam, it also performs the function of formal education. This study will examine the position of madrasah in one of the Southeast Asian countries, namely the Philippines. Madrasah in the Philippines was initially considered as part of the seeding the idea of separatist Moro people who want to separate from the Philippines. This research was conducted by literature study approach, with the aim of tracing the history and treatment of the Philippines government to this kind of educational institutions. The results showed that the Philippine government has started to accommodate madrasah in their national education system.AbstrakMadrasah di beberapa negara Asia Tenggara mempunyai posisi unik, di samping sebagai tempat pengajaran dan pendidikan agama Islam lembaga ini ternyata juga menjalankan fungsi pendidikan formal. Penelitian ini ingin mengkaji posisi madrasah di salah satu negara Asia Tenggara, yaitu Filipina. Madrasah di Filipina awalnya dianggap sebagai bagian dari penyemaian ide separatisme bangsa Moro yang ingin memisahkan dari Filipina. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan pendekatan studi kepustakaan, dengan tujuan melacak sejarah dan perlakuan pemerintah Filipina terhadap lembaga pendidikan jenis ini. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemerintah Filipina mulai mengakomodasi lembaga pendidikan madrasah dalam sistem pendidikan nasional mereka.

Abstract

The Certain community in the marginal areas often resistance to changes initiated by the state. This study wanted to examine how possible the development of formal education access is done on the marginal community, especially  in ulayat land of Baduy, Lebak, Banten. This research includes the type of Participation Action Research (PAR) that involves targeted citizens as agents of change. This study found the demand of some residents in ulayat land of Baduy to open formal education services in that area. In practice many of the emerging problems are related to the demands of regular education on the one hand, and on the other hand the culture of local communities that have not been supportive. In the idea of development, this action research also succeeded in developing the some idea of education with nuances of local cultural wisdom.Keywords: Baduy, Cicakal Girang, MTs Alam Wiwitan. Abstrak Beberapa kelompok masyarakat tertentu di daerah marginal sering melakukan resistensi terhadap perubahan yang digagas oleh negara. Penelitian ini ingin menguji seberapa mungkin  pengembangan akses pendidikan formal dilakukan pada masyarakat marginal yaitu masyarakat di tanah ulayat Baduy, Lebak, Banten. Riset ini termasuk jenis Participation Action Research (PAR) yang melibatkan warga sasaran sebagai agen perubahan. Penelitian ini menghasilkan adanya permintaan sebagian warga untuk dibuka layanan pendidikan formal. Pada prakteknya banyak permasalahan yang muncul terkait dengan tuntutan pendidikan reguler di satu sisi, dan di sisi lain kultur masyarakat setempat yang belum mendukung. Dalam gagasan perluasaanya, riset aksi ini juga dalam beberapa hal berhasil mengembangkan gagasan pendidikan yang bernuansa kearifan budaya lokal.Kata kunci: Baduy, Cicakal Girang, MTs Alam Wiwitan.

Abstract

AbstractNowadays many Indonesian citizens work in Saudi Arabia and send their children to school in the country. Many are also prospective students seeking scholarships in Saudi Arabia. This study will examine how the actual form and practice of educational services for Indonesian citizens in Saudi Arabia and how the implications of such education services for Indonesia. The research was conducted by qualitative method through literature study and visitation. The study found that education services for Indonesian citizens in the country are still below expectations and in some ways below the standard. In addition, from the graduates, there is a tendency to develop a certain religious understanding that is somewhat different from the needs of moderate Islamic development (wasatiyah) in Indonesian country.Abstrak Hari ini banyak Warga negara Indonesia (WNI) yang bekerja di Arab Saudi dan menyekolahkan anaknya di negeri tersebut. Banyak juga para calon mahasiswa yang mencari beasiswa pendidikan di Arab Saudi. Penelitian ini iningi mengkaji bagaimana sebenarnya bentuk dan praktek layanan pendidikan bagi anak WNI di Arab Saudi dan bagaimana implikasi layanan pendidikan tersebut bagi Indonesia. Penelitian dilakukan dengan metode kualitatif melalui kajian kepustakaan dan visitasi. Penelitian menemukan bahwa layanan pendidikan bagi WNI di negeri tersebut masih dibawah ekspektasi dan dalam beberapa hal di bawah standar. Di samping itu dari lulusannya ada kecenderungan mengembangkan paham keagaman tertentu  yang agak berbeda dengan kebutuhan pengembangan Islam moderat (wasatiyah) di Indonesia.

Abstract

abstractEducation inancing is often considered to be a major problem to encourage private madrasahs to be favorite schools. This study is intended to examine the strategy of inancing education carried out by one of the favorite madrasahs. The study is based on a case study of a favorite madrasah around  the  capital  city  Jakarta.  This  study  found the education funding model that can deliver this madrasah to earn the predicate of “madrasah unggul”  from  the  Ministry  of  Religious  Affairs. Based on the experience of this madrasah, parent participation in education funding must be offset by the provision of quality assurance to education service customers.Keywords:strategy, education Financing, Favorite madrasahabstrakPembiayaan pendidikan sering dianggap menjadi masalah utama untuk mendorong madrasah swasta menjadi sekolah unggulan. Penelitian ini ingin mengkaji strategi pembiayaan pendidikan yang dilakukan oleh salah satu madrasah unggulan. Kajian didasarkan pada studi kasus terhadap madrasah unggulan di sekitar ibukota Jakarta. Kajian ini menemukan model pembiayaan pendidikan yang mampu mengantarkan madrasah ini memperoleh predikat madrasah unggul dari Kementerian Agama RI. Berdasarkan pengalaman madrasah ini, partisipasi orang tua dalam pembiayaan pendidikan harus diimbangi dengan memberikan jaminan kualitas terhadap konsumen pendidikan.Kata Kunci:strategi, Pembiayaan Pendidikan, madrasah Unggulan
