Abstract

This research aims at  finding out the improvement the students’ ability in writing narrative paragraph through free writing( A Classroom Action Research in Class XI IPA 3 of Sma Negeri 1 Sinjai Barat, Sinjai) The researcher questions of the research are how do the students improve their writing proficiency in narrative paragraph by using free writing blind typing? and how do the students improve their writing proficiency in recount paragraph by using free writing blind typing? The researcher used A Classroom Action Research (C.A.R). Two cycles had been conducted, where each cycle consisted of four meetings. It employed writing test as instrument. A number of subjects of the research were 35 students of class XI IPA 3. The results of the student's writing test in cycle 1 and cycle 2 had increased in different scores.  There was increasing by students at the end action of second cycle. The means scores of narrative in data source was 61.90 become 68.33 in cycle 1, and after revision in the cycle 2 the mean score in cycle 2 was 76.66 by implemented of recount text. Therefore the improvement of narrative text in cycle 1 to recount text in cycle 2 was 23.84%. Meanwhile, the successful minimal criteria (KKM) was 65. The research findings indicated that use of Freewriting Blind Typing method could increase the students’ writing proficiency.

Abstract

This research aimed to improve students’ reading comprehension by using strategy of tittle, examine, look, look and setting. This research used Classroom Action Research (CAR) by implementing two cycles (cycle 1 and 2). This research tried to find out the students’ achievement in literal comprehension through TELLS Strategy and the students’ achievement in interpretive comprehension through TELLS Strategy. Then the researcher found the results based on the goals of the research, those were the students’ improvement in literal reading comprehension was 67.75% from 51.31%, as well as the students’ improvement in interpretative reading comprehension 67.10% from 51.31%. It was reached by the implementation of TELLS Strategy in the classroom.Keywords: Reading, TELLS Strategy, CAR, Literal, Interpretative.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa dengan menggunakan strategi tittle, examine, look, look and setting (TELLS). Penelitian ini menggunakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) dengan menerapkan dua siklus (siklus 1 dan 2). Penelitian ini mencoba untuk mengetahui prestasi dalam pemahaman literal melalui TELLS Strategi dan prestasi siswa dalam pemahaman interpretatif melalui TELLS Strategi. Kemudian peneliti menemukan hasil berdasarkan tujuan penelitian, mereka adalah peningkatan pemahaman literal membaca siswa adalah 67,75% dari 51,31%, serta peningkatan pemahaman membaca interpretatif siswa 67,10% dari 51,31%. Hal itu dicapai dengan penerapan TELLS Strategi di dalam kelas.Kata Kunci: Reading, TELLS Strategi, CAR, Literal, Interpretative.

Abstract

Abstract

Writing is a difficult skill for the students at SMPN 26 Makassar. It could be seen from the result of a diagnostic test which showed the ability of the second year students of SMPN 26 Makassar in writing paragraphs was still poor. The students were unable to express their ideas well in making descriptive texts. The research used Classroom Action Research that consisted of planning, action, observation, and reflection. It conducted in two cycles in which each cycle comprised four meetings. The subjects of this research were 28 students of the second year students of SMPN 26 Makassar.The findings indicated that the students’ ability to write descriptive text in cycle 1 has not reached the score target because the mean score of the students was 66.52 that classified as “fairly good” whereas, In cycle 2 the students’ mean score was 75.26. It indicated that the score target has been reached and classified as “Good”. Therefore, the researcher suggested the English teacher apply Four Square Writing Method as one of the alternative ways of teaching writing subject in the classroom especially in teaching the descriptive text.

Abstract

The research was aimed to find out the kinds of errors in the use of punctuation in narrative text at second grade of SMA Negeri 1 Makassar. The research focused on five punctuation, they are full stop, comma, question mark, exclamation point, and quotation mark. The method of this research was descriptive quantitative. The subjects of this research took 36 students from 4 classes, it used random sampling technique. The researcher used narrative text as instrument. From the result, there are some kinds of errors students made, they are Misordering, omission, and addition of punctuation. Omission of full stop was dominant error made by students that is 19.22%. In writing, punctuation is very important because it can make reader understand the meaning of writing.

Abstract

AbstractThe final project primarily deals with grammatical error analysis. This artikel aimed at finding out the grammatical error in recount text produced by the third semester students of English Department in Makassar Muhammadiyah University. The researcher used the descriptive analysis approach of which the data were obtained by the student’s recount text writing that consisted of 80 students. Than those writing were errors in producing verb groups, articles, pronouns, proposition, and conjunction. The researcher found that the students made 440 grammatical error of the Orientation, Events, and Reorientation which were classified into: 302 errors in producing verbs, 25 error of use article, 19 errors in the use of pronoun, 29 errors use of proposition, and 65 errors in the use of conjunction. It can be concluded that the students have not deep understanding in using grammatical composition in composing the next into a good structure. It is suggested that the students need more practice dealing with verb forms and tense since they were the basic knowledge needed for telling their experience.  AbstrakAnalisis Kesalahan Tata Bahasa dalam Penulisan Recount Text. Jurnal ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kesalahan tata bahasa dalam teks recount yang dihasilkan oleh mahasiswa semester tiga Jurusan Bahasa Inggris di Makassar Universitas Muhammadiyah. Peneliti menggunakan pendekatan analisis deskriptif dimana data diperoleh dengan menulis recount teks oleh siswa yang terdiri dari 80 siswa. Kesalahan menulis yaitu dalam memproduksi kelompok kerja, artikel, kata ganti, proposisi, dan kata penghubung. Peneliti menemukan bahwa siswa membuat 440 kesalahan gramatikal orientasi, acara, dan reorientasi yang diklasifikasikan ke dalam: 302 kesalahan dalam memproduksi verba, 25 kesalahan penggunaan artikel, 19 kesalahan dalam penggunaan kata ganti, 29 kesalahan menggunakan proposisi, dan 65 kesalahan dalam penggunaan kata penghubung. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa siswa memiliki pemahaman dangkal dalam menggunakan komposisi tata bahasa dalam menyusun struktur yang baik. Disarankan bahwa siswa perlu berlatih lebih yang berkaitan dengan bentuk kata kerja karena mereka membutuhkan pengetahuan dasar untuk menceritakan pengalaman mereka.

Abstract

Scylla serrata is a type of crab that lives in the mangrove forest. S. serrata is an export commodity besides Portunus pelagicus and became an important fishery commodity in Indonesia since 1980 which was obtained from catching natural stocks in coastal waters, especially in mangrove or estuary areas, and from cultivation result of brackish water. One of the human activities in the coastal region of Pangkajene and Kepulauan Islands is the catching and cultivation of mangrove crabs that contribute to the income.The study was conducted from December 2017 to January 2018,intend to find out the sustainability status of mangrove crabs utilization in Pangkajene and Kepulauan Coastal Areas. Data collection through field surveys, interviews using questionnaires and literature studies. Data analysis using fishery resource sustainability analysis through Rapfish(Rapid Appraisal for Fisheries).The result of the research shows the sustainability status of mangrove shrimp utilization in Pangkajene and Kepulauan regency in terms of ecology dimension with ordination value 79,65 and economic dimension with ordination value 96,08 is good category of sustainability, social culture dimension with ordination value 68,51; dimensions of technology with 64.53 ordination values; institutional and legal dimension with ordination value 54.15 is enough category, so that stakeholders in this case need the central, provincial, and local government on the socio-cultural, technological, institutional and legal aspects for sustainability status of mangrove crab utilization in Coastal Pangkajene Regency and Island.

Abstract

The aim and cord point of this research is to apply psychology game in order to improve EFL students? speaking skill. The researcher employed quasi experimental method for the study. The data resources was 40 students at the third grade students of SMAN 2 Bulukumba, they were choosen randomly.  The instrument for the research was the speaking test. In analyzing data the researcher collected the speaking test in line with the instrument test and analyzed in scoring, fluency, accuracy and comprehensibility of the students speaking.  From all the data, the result of posttest showed higher than pretest result using psychology game in learning speaking of SMAN 2 Bulukumba. It was proved by the t-test (4.405) greater than t-table (2.024). it means that the students speaking  achievement can be built. Besides the study explained that comparing the students pretest and posttest (31.35<59.50), the students in class II IPA 2 and II IPA 1 (25.10< 36.30) have a significant difference  which the students who treated was better than the student in a control class.  The result of the research showed that The speaking ability of the second grade students at SMAN 2 Bulukumba has been improved after having and applying psychology game.
