Abstract

Health development aims to improve community health status, but in health development there are still problems, especially health problems in elementary school children. Efforts made by the government in the form of the School Health Effort program and the success rate in each province averaged 13.6%, so a comprehensive model is needed in the school named the Model of Usaha Kesehatan Sekolah Pelangi. The aims is to produce the Model of Usaha Kesehatan Sekolah Pelangi in improving health status of children's dental and oral health status. In this research used Research and Development, there are five stages of research namely: information gathering, model design, expert validation and revision, model testing (using the quasi-experimental control group pretest and posttest design method and model results). The sample was divided into 2 groups namely the implementation of the Model of Usaha Kesehatan Sekolah Pelangi in the intervention group and the school health business program in the control group. Data were tested using intraclass correlation coefficient, chi-square, shapiro wilk, friedman, wilcoxon and mann-whitney.The results showed the school health business model is feasible as a model of education and health services shown with the value of p 0.031. The Model of Usaha Kesehatan Sekolah Pelangi is effective in increasing the performance treatment index (PTI) shown by the value of p 0.001 and decreasing the simplified oral hygiene index (OHI-S) indicated by the value of p 0.001.The conclusion of this research is Model of Usaha Kesehatan Sekolah Pelangi is effective in improving children's dental and oral health status.

Abstract

Background: ulcer is a pathological condition characterized by the loss of epithelial tissue. The average prevalence of ulcers in the oral cavity ranges between 15-30%. Paste of mangosteen rind which agent called xanthone can accelerate ulcer healing process, however histopathological observation of PMN (Polymorphonuclear) numbers and fibroblasts cells are required.Purpose: to determine the ability of mangosteen rind in treating ulcers caused by infection, mechanical and chemical trauma from the numbers of PMN and fibroblasts cells.Method: experimental studies, pre-posttest control group design, with randomized technique, total sample of 36 Male Wistar rats were divided into 6 groups @ 6 where 3 treatment groups were smeared paste of rind mangosteen and the others without treatment, then from each group were decapitated onday 3rd, 7th and 10th. Result: Ulcer from mechanical and chemical trauma had been healing on 7th day compared with untreated on 9th day. Similarly ulcer infection has been healing on 9th day compared with untreated on 10th day. Anova test(repeated) shows that there is diameter difference significantly between day 1 to 8 (pvalue<0,001). The usage of xanthone decreases amount of PMN cells during inflammation phase and increases amount of fibroblast cells during proliferation phase. Conclusion: xanthone could accelerate healing process as well as shrinkage of ulcus diameter compared with untreated ulcer. Keywords: Oral Ulcer, Xanthone, PMN Cell, Fibroblasts Cell

TITLEThe effect of mengkudu squeeze toward growth of Staphylococcus aureusABSTRACT Staphylococcus aureus is a bacterium causes of dental and oral diseases, especially periodontal disease. Efforts to prevent one of them with natural ingredients that Noni. Noni (Morinda citrifolia Linn) contains anthraquinone is used as an antibacterial. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of concentration of noni (Morinda citrifolia Linn) on the inhibition of the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. This is  a quasi-experimental study. Research subjects bacterium Staphylococcus aureus. The study was conducted using a concentration of 40%, 60% and 80% respectively – each concentration done 3x treatment. The data was analyzed with deskriptif kuantitatif. The results showed a large area of inhibition of the average noni solution with a 40% concentration of 9.34, a 60% concentration of 9.74, and the concentration of 80% by 10.74 mm.  The conclusion of this study is the average total diameter of inhibitation, most notably at a concentration of 80%. Keywords: Noni Juice, Staphylococcus aureus

Abstract

This research was to determine the influence of dental hygiene care interventions (oral hygiene) to the reduction of plaque index of deaf students. It was a true experimental with randomi pre-post-test control group design. The measurements of plaque index performed with PHPM index in inspection sheet method. The plaque index are calculated from the amount of plaque scores in inspection sheet. Research was done over 49 respondents that divided into two groups: intervention groups and control groups. There was a significant difference of plaque index before and after the treatment. In intervention groups it decreased from the average of 35,7 to 10,4 (70,87%) with value p=0,001. Whether in control group it was also decreased from the average of 37,5 to 28,9 (22,93%) with value p=0,001. The average of plaque index reduction was also differ significantly between intervention groups (31,06 ) and control groups (12,0) with value p=0,001. Dental hygiene care intervention (oral hygiene) can reduce plaque index of deaf students. Suggestion: Dental hygiene care intervention (oral hygiene) should be delivered periodically to the deaf students by nurturing the habit brushing teeth twice a day completed with a written module, so that it can prevent the occurrence of oral diseases.

Abstract

Aim of this study was to determine the effect of the application of paste of mangosteen rind to measure the diameter of ulcers due to scratches (mechanical trauma). This type of research is experimental (in vivo), the research design of the pre-post test control group design. The population is Male Wistar rats using a completely randomized block sampling, there are 2 (two) groups, respectively 6 (six) tails, the total animal is 12, where 1 (one) treatment group were oiled paste mangosteen rind and another group was smeared PVP. The results showed there is effect of the application of paste of mangosteen rind towards mechanical trauma recovery, diameter of the ulcer which gradually shrinking on day 3, 7th and ulcers experience healing on day 10. Need further research on the effect of the application of paste of mangosteen rind against oral mucosal ulcer healing pathologically.

Abstract

Background: The role of fluoride in preventing tooth decay both for children and adult has been acknowledged internationally. There are several types of fluoride modalities either topically or systemic way. In Indonesia the modalities used to apply are fluoride tablet, fluocol solution and fluoride containing toothpaste. The purpose of this research is to find the effectiveness of fluoride modalities.Method: The study design was quasy experimental with 40 extracted teeth (Premolar teeth). The teeth divided into four groups D group I soaked on tablet fluor, Group II ; soaked on fluocol solution, Group III soaked on fluoride tooth paste and group IV soaked on Mill J (Aquadest/ Control solution). Fluoride concentration before and after soaking was determined using Spectrophotometer UV-Vis. Fluoride absorption was determined by the reduction of fluoride concentration after soaking.Result: Research result shown that the highest fluoride absorption was on soaking in fluoride tablet, followed by soaking on fluocol and tooth paste (mean fluoride absorption was 0,32; 0,08 and 0,04 ppm). Anova test shown significance level was 0,000.Conclusion: there were a significance of fluoride absorption on soaking in tablet fluoride, fluocol solution and toothpaste. The mechanism of fluoride regimens shown different fluoride absorption.
