Abstract

The mangosteen peels (Garcinia mangostana L.) has high free radical scavengers activity. This study aims to determine the physical and chemical conditions that are formulated in SNEDDS and nanoemulsion preparations. SNEDDS was made with various concentrations of Tween 80, PEG 400, and Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) with a ratio of 4,98:1,02:1. Nanoemulsions were made with the addition of water to SNEDDS. Stability observation results were analyzed by statistics. The results of physical stability test show that all test samples in the research, in nanoemulsion, SNEDDS fraction, base SNEDDS, SNEDDS vitamin E did not undergo separation, precipitation, cracking, and creaming. On the chemical stability test of nanoemulsion and SNEDDS fraction there is no difference between IC50 before and after storage. While on basic SNEDDS and vitamin E nanoemulsion there is a difference between IC50 before and after storage.

Abstract

Daun pacar air (Impatiens balsamina L.) telah banyak diteliti memiliki aktivitas antibakteri. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengetahui apakah krim ekstrak metanol daun pacar air mempunyai efek sebagai antijerawat, konsentrasi ekstrak metanol daun pacar air yang paling efektif, dan mengetahui hasil evaluasi sediaan krim ekstrak metanol daun pacar air secara fisik dan kimia. Simplisia disokhletasi menggunakan pelarut metanol. Pengujian aktivitas antibakteri dilakukan dengan metode disc diffusion Kirby-Bauer. Ekstrak diformulasikan dalam bentuk krim dengan konsentrasi 10%, 15% dan 20%. Evaluasi sediaan meliputi pemeriksaan organoleptis seperti bau, warna, bentuk serta homogenitas, pengujian daya sebar, daya lekat, pH dan antibakteri. Analisis data menggunakan program R-Commander versi 12.4.1. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya kemampuan sediaan krim dalam menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri penyebab jerawat S. epidermidis dan P.  acnes dengan konsentrasi ekstrak 15% pada formula II yang memberikan penghambatan paling efektif. Hasil evaluasi sediaan formula II menunjukkan sifat fisik yang homogen, daya sebar sebesar 21,24 + 1,464cm2, daya lekat >60 menit dan pH sebesar 6,53 + 0,057.

Abstract

Latar belakang. Infeksi saluran napas akut (ISPA) merupakan penyebab terpenting morbiditas dan mortalitas padaanak terutama usia 6-23 bulan. Beberapa faktor dianggap berhubungan dengan ISPA antara lain, jenis kelamin,usia balita, status gizi, imunisasi, berat lahir balita, suplementasi vitamin A, durasi pemberian ASI, pendidikanibu, pendapatan keluarga, crowding, pajanan rokok, serta pengetahuan, sikap, dan perilaku ibu terhadap ISPA.Tujuan. Mengetahui angka prevalensi ISPA pada balita di Rukun Warga (RW) 04 Pulo Gadung sertafaktor-faktor yang berhubungan.Metode. Penelitian potong lintang yang dilakukan pada 103 subjek menggunakan guided questionnaire yangvalid dan reliable untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat diagnosis ISPA dalam satu bulan terakhir pada anakusia 6 bulan–59 bulan serta faktor-faktor yang berhubungan, di RW 04 Kelurahan Pulo Gadung, JakartaTimur, pada bulan Desember 2008.Hasil. Prevalensi ISPA pada balita 40,8%, didapatkan hubungan bermakna antara pajanan asap rokok(p=0,006) dan riwayat imunisasi (p=0,017) dengan prevalensi ISPA pada balita. Namun tidak didapatkanhubungan antara jenis kelamin, usia, status gizi subjek, tingkat pendidikan responden, pendapatan keluarga,crowding, jumlah rokok, suplementasi vitamin A, durasi ASI total dengan prevalensi ISPA pada balita.Kesimpulan. Prevalensi ISPA pada balita cukup tinggi dan terdapat hubungan bermakna antara pajananasap rokok dan riwayat imunisasi dengan prevalensi ISPA pada balita

Abstract

Mangosteen rind has the ability to conduct antibacterial activity. Under the development relating to drug delivery system, SNEDDS were known to boost the penetration of active compound. The aim of this research was to compare the effectiveness of the antibacterial activity at both SNEDDS preparation and the ethanol extract of mangosteen rind as the antibacteria against the bacteria that cause diabetic ulcers with the most prevalence whether it was Gram positive or Gram negative bacteria like Proteus mirabilis and Staphylococcus epidermidis. The research started by maceration process with the crude extract as the result continued with the phytochemical screening which subsequently prepared as SNEDDS preparations. The SNEDDS preparation prepared earlier then analyzed to see the content of the active compound using spectrophotometer  UV-Vis  and  the measuring of antibacteria activity with bacteria growth inhibitory parameter at ethanol extract SNEDDS preparations of mangosteen rind then compared to ciprofloxacin and were analyzed the data afterwards using ANOVA. The results shows that SNEDDS preparation of mangosteen extract have an activity against both typed of bacteria that cause diabetic ulcers shows by significant differences between both group which is P. mirabilis bacteria group and S. epidermidis bacteria group in ANOVA test  with significant number of 0,000 and shows significant differences between both group.

Abstract

Indonesia especially west Kalimantan well known by its biodiversity. one of the potential resource is Kesum leaves. Kesum leaves are potential as antibacterial effect, so it can be formulated into pharmaceutical dosage form, especially gel. This research aimed to know the best comparison between Carbopol 940 and Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) gel base affecting the physical stability of methanol extract and fraction of kesum leaves gel by Simplex Lattice Design (SLD) method. Gels were prepared into three variation base such as gel A (100% Carbopol - 0% HPMC); gel B (0% Carbopol - 100% HPMC); and gel C (50% Carbopol – 50% HPMC). According to SLD method, the optimum combination obtained among the basis were 100% Carbopol - 0% HPMC for Kesum leaves methanol extract gel and 10% Carbopol – 90% HPMC for Kesum leaves methanol fraction gel. Gel that was formulated were tested their physical stability, including adhesive ability, spreadability and pH. The results were analyzed using One sample t- test and was known there was no difference of the physical stability between Kesum leaves methanol extract gel and Kesum leaves methanol fraction gel.

Abstract

Acnes vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory disease of sebaceous follicles caused by Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis.The antibacterial activity of Impatiens balsamina L. has been studied for many years. The aims of this study were to find out the antiacne effect from methanolic extract of stems and leaves of Impatiens balsamina L. that were formulated in gel. Simplicia were extracted using soxhlet technique using methanol as solvent. Extracts were then formulated in gel in three variations of HPMC 4000 and Carbopol 934 as gel base with ratio of 70:30 (F1), 50:50 (F2) and 30:70 (F3). The determination of antiacne effect was done using disc diffusion method. Evaluation of physical and chemical properties of those gels includes organoleptic examination, spreadability testing, adhesion testing and pH testing. Data were analyzed using R version 2.14.1 package R-commander. Determination results showed the diameter of inhibition zone from FI, FII and FIII for P.acnes were 6.46 ±0.15 mm; 12.16 ± 0.35 mm; 16.13 ± 0.35mm and for S.epidermidis were 14.5 ± 0.47 mm; 16.56 ± 0.651 mm; 17.13 ± 0.44mm. Analysis results showed that gel of FIII gave optimal antiacne effect, but significantly different from positive control (p<0,05). The evaluation of gel showed that they had homogeny texture, good spreadability and adhesion, as well as the pH compliance.

Papaya has antioxidant activity due to antioxidant components such as beta-carotene, vitamin C, lycopene. The purpose of this research is to know that methanol extract of papaya fruit can be formulated into gel peel off facial mask preparation, determining polivinyl alkohol (PVA) that used for gelling agent gel peel off facial mask concentration with physical, chemical, and antioxidant activity with the best IC50 value. The method used in the extraction is maceration with methanol solvent. PVA used with concentration are 2,5%; 8,75%; and 17,5%. The Physical test include organoleptic test, adhesion test, spreading test and the chemical test with pH test. Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that the methanol extract of papaya fruit can be formulated into gel face mask preparation, the formula with PVA concentration of 8,75% fulfill organoleptic rules, with adhesion test 20,16 seconds ± 2,90, spreading test 10,2 cm ± 1,28, pH value 7,13 ± 0,06 with the physical and chemical properties of gel peel off facial mask methanol extract of papaya fruit, and formula with concentration 8,75% PVA has the highest antioxidant activity with IC50 value 80,52 µg/mL that include as strong antioxidant. Keywords: gel peel off facial mask, methanol extract of papaya fruit, PVA, IC50.ABSTRAKMasker gel peel off merupakan salah satu alternatif sediaan yang dapat meningkatkan kenyamanan penggunaan dan diharapkan dapat meningkatkan aktivitas antioksidan buah pepaya. Pepaya memiliki aktivitas antioksidan karena komponen-komponen antioksidan seperti betakaroten, vitamin C, likopen. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bahwa ekstrak metanol buah pepaya dapat diformulasikan menjadi sediaan masker wajah gel peel off dan menentukan konsentrasi polivinyl alkohol (PVA) yang merupakan bahan dasar masker gel peel off yang memiliki sifat fisik, kimia, dan aktivitas antioksidan dengan nilai IC50 terbaik. Metode yang digunakan pada ekstraksi adalah maserasi dengan pelarut metanol. PVA yang digunakan dengan konsentrasi 2,5%; 8,75%; dan 17,5%. Uji sifat fisik meliputi uji organoleptis, uji daya lekat, uji daya sebar, dan uji sifat kimia menggunakan uji pH. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, diperoleh hasil bahwa ekstrak metanol buah pepaya dapat diformulasikan menjadi sediaan masker wajah gel peel off, formula dengan konsentrasi PVA 8,75% memenuhi persyaratan organoleptik, daya lekat sebesar 20,16 detik ± 2,90, daya sebar sebesar 10,2 cm ± 1,28, nilai pH 7,13 dengan nilai IC50 80,52 µg/mL yang termasuk antioksidan kuat.Kata kunci: masker wajah gel peel off, ekstak metanol buah pepaya, PVA, IC50.

Abstract

Colonization of Propionibacterium acnes is one of factors that causes acne vulgaris. The present study was conducted to evaluate antiacne effect from cream of methanolic extract from stems and leaves of Impatiens balsamina L. towards Propionibacterium acnes, concentration that gives greatest antiacne effect and to evaluate physical and chemical properties of creams. Simplicia were extracted using soxhlet technique and methanol as solvent. Extract then formulated in cream in three variations of concentration as following 10%(F1), 15%(F2) and 20%(F3). The determination of antiacne effect was done using disc diffusion method. Evaluation of physical and chemical properties of those creams includes organoleptic examination, spreadability, adhesion and pH testing. Determination results showed the diameter of inhibition zone from F1, F2 and F3 were 8,37±2,205; 10,78±2,551; and 17,42±3,029 mm respectively. Analysis results showed that cream of F3 gave significantly greatest antiacne effect compared to F1 and F2 (p<0,05), and not significantly different to the positive control (p>0,05). The evaluation of creams showed that they had homogenous texture, nongreasy, easily washed, spreadability of 10,18±0,285 to 11,55±0,687 cm2, adhesion force of 33,299±2,821 to 60±0 minutes, and pH of 6,07±0,058 to 6,37±0,115, this showed that creams have good physical and chemical properties. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui efek antijerawat krim ekstrak metanol batang dan daun pacar air (Impatiens balsamina L.) terhadap bakteri Propionibacterium acnes, mengetahui konsentrasi krim yang memberikan efek antijerawat yang paling besar serta mengevaluasi sifat fisik dan kimia krim. Simplisia disokletasi menggunakan pelarut metanol. Ekstrak diformulasikan ke dalam sediaan krim dengan variasi konsentrasi ekstrak yaitu 10%(F1), 15%(F2) dan 20%(F3). Pengujian efektivitas krim dilakukan dengan metode difusi cakram. Evaluasi sifat fisik dan kimia sediaan krim yang dilakukan meliputi pemeriksaan organoleptis, pengujian daya sebar, daya lekat dan pH. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan daya hambat krim F1, F2 dan F3 terhadap bakteri masing-masing sebesar 8,37 ± 2,205; 10,78 ± 2,551; dan 17,42 ± 3,029 mm. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa F3 memberikan efek antijerawat yang paling besar dan berbeda signifikan dibandingkan dengan F1 dan F2 (p<0,05) serta tidak berbeda signifikan dibandingkan dengan kontrol positif (p>0,05). Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan sediaan homogen, tidak berminyak, mudah tercuci, memiliki daya sebar sebesar 10,18±0,285 hingga 11,55±0,687 cm2 dan daya lekat sebesar 33,299±2,821 hingga 60±0 menit, serta pH antara 6,07±0,058 hingga 6,37±0,115, menunjukkan bahwa sediaan memiliki sifat fisik dan kimia yang baik. Abstract

Salah satu penyebab terjadinya jerawat adalah bakteri Propionibacterium acnes dan Staphylococcus epidermidis. Jahe merah (Zingiber officinale Rosc. var. rubrum) telah banyak diteliti memiliki aktivitas antibakteri. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengetahui konsentrasi hambat minimum ekstrak etanol rimpang jahe merah terhadap bakteri penyebab jerawat dan efektivitas setelah diformulasikan dalam bentuk gel. Simplisia berbentuk rajangan disokhletasi menggunakan pelarut etanol 96%. Pengujian KHM dilakukan dengan metode difusi. Ekstrak diformulasikan dalam bentuk gel dengan variasi konsentrasi basis HPMC 4000 dan Karbopol 934 dengan perbandingan 70:30 (Formula I), 50:50 (Formula II) dan 30:70 (Formula III). Evaluasi sediaan meliputi pemeriksaan organoleptis seperti bau, warna, bentuk, homogenitas, daya sebar, daya lekat, pH dan antibakteri. Analisis data menggunakan program R-Commander versi 12.4.1. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan nilai KHM ekstrak terhadap P. acnes sebesar 0,45% dan S. epidermidis sebesar 0,5%. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan sediaan homogen, pH dan daya lekat yang stabil sedangkan daya sebar mengalami peningkatan selama penyimpanan 30 hari. Hasil evaluasi antibakteri gel menunjukkan bahwa formula I memberikan efektivitas paling baik dengan zona hambat sebesar 16,11 mm terhadap P. acnes dan 14 mm terhadap S. epidermidis.
