Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah penggunaan Duolingo Application dapat meningkatkan kemampuan kosa kata bahasa Inggris pada siswa SMP kelas 7. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dalam satu kelas dan mengaplikasikan bentuk eksperimen dengan menggunakan satu grup pretest dan posttest. Peneliti menemukan bahwa Duolingo Application dapat digunakan dalam pengajaran kosa kata Bahasa Inggris. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa nilai rata-rata siswa meningkat dari 61.15 menjadi 77.25. Hipotesis telah dianalisis pada level signifikan 0.05, dan hasilnya menunjukan bahwa t-value sebesar 14.461 dan sig.2-tailed sebesar 0.000. Artinya hipotesis telah diterima dan Duolingo Application dapat digunakan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan kosa kata siswa. Peneliti menyarankan kepada guru bahasa Inggris untuk menggunakan Duolingo Application sebagai media dalam pengajaran kosa kata bahasa Inggris karena aplikasi ini dapat membuat siswa lebih tertarik dalam proses dan aktivitas pembelajaran.This research is aimed at investigating whether the implementation of Duolingo Application can improve students’ English vocabulary achievement for the student at seventh grade of SMP. This research was conducted in one class and applied pre-experimental design that was one group pretest and posttest. The researcher found that Duolingo Application can be used in teaching English vocabulary. The result showed that students’ mean score improves from 61.15 up to 77.25. The hypothesis was analyzed at significant level of 0.05, and the result showed that t-value was 14.461 and the sig.2-tailed 0.000. It means that hypothesis was accepted and Duolingo Application can be used to improve students’ achievement in vocabulary. The researcher suggests the English teachers to use Duolingo Application as the media in teaching English vocabulary because it can make students more interested in the teaching and learning activity.Key words: duolingo, computer-assisted language learning, learning vocabulary

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana siswa menerapkan setiap langkah kegiatan menggunakan modified and non-modified debat. Dalam penelitian ini, metode yang digunakan adalah kualitatif. Peneliti menggunakan dua kelas, yakni eksperimental dan kontrol di mana kelas eksperimental menggunakan modified debate dan kelas kontrol menggunakan non-modified debate. Untuk mendapatkan data, peneliti menggunakan observasi yang berhubungan dengan kebutuhan siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada tiga tahap di mana siswa mempunyai masalah di kelas modified debate, dalam proses belajar mengajar, memperkenalkan topic, dan durasi waktu, dan ada dua tahap di mana siswa mempunyai masalah di kelas non-modified debate, proses belajar mengajar dan durasi waktu. Dapat disarankan bahwa siswa harus diberikan kesempatan berbicara untuk mencapai suatu tujuan. Dengan latihan, siswa dapat mengembangkan kemampuan berbicara karena tujuan berbicara adalah untuk berkomunikasi.This study aimed to find out how the students applied every step of modified and non-modified debate activities. In this research, the method was qualitative design. The research was conducted at the senior high school. The researcher used two classes, experimental and control groups in which experimental group used modified debate and control group used non-modified debate. To get the data, the researcher used observation sheet related to students’ need. The findings revealed that, in modified debate, there were three steps in which the students had a problem in modified debate and there were two steps in which the students had a problem in non-modified debate. They were in teaching learning process, introducing the topic, and keep track of time. It is suggested that to reach a goal in speaking, the students have to be given opportunity to speak. With practicing, the learners can explore their speaking skill since the goal of speaking is to communicate.Key words: modified debate, non-modified debate, speaking skill

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh kemampuan menulis siswa dengan menggunakan STAD. Desain penelitian ini adalah quasi experimental time series. Subyek penelitian terdiri dari 30 siswa yang berjenis kelamin perempuan. Peneliti menggunakan tes tertulis dan lembar observasi untuk memperoleh data. Pertama, untuk menemukan apakah ada efek yang signifikan pada STAD yang berhubungan dengan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis pada saat sebelum dan sesudah di berikan STAD. Kedua, untuk menemukan topik yang paling berpengaruh dalam menulis siswa dengan menggunakan STAD.  Ketiga, untuk mengetahui bagaimanakah STAD diterapkan dalam pembelajaran menulis. Penulis menganalisa data dengan menggunakan deskriptif statistik yaitu ONE WAY ANOVA dan lembar observasi. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa STAD dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa berdasarkan hasil menulis siswa.  The aim of this study is to investigate the effect  of student’s writing ability by usimg Student Teams Achievement Division. The design is quasi-experimental time series design. The subject of the research consist of 30 students, all the participants are female. Then the researcher used writing test and observation sheet to obtain the data. Firstly, in order to find out whether there is a significant effect of STAD related to student’s ability in writing before and after giving STAD. Secondly, to find out which topic of writing is mostly influenced by using STAD. And thirdly, to find out how STAD is implemented in teaching writing. The researcher analyzed the data by using descriptive statistic namely one way anova and also observation sheets. The result shows that Student Team Achievement Division (STAD) can increase students writing ability based on the result score in descriptive writing. Keywords: STAD, teaching, writing.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan memperkirakan Extensive Reading Project Based Learning (PjBL) dapat memperbaiki kemampuan membaca dan untuk memeriksa apakah Extensive Reading PjBL dapat memperbaiki aktifitas mahasiswa. Populasi penelitian adalah mahasiswa semester dua program studi Bahasa Inggris STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung yang terdiri dari 30 mahasiswa. Test diberikan untuk mengukur kemampuan membaca, dan observation checklist dipakai mencatat progress aktifitas. Hasil menunjukkan Extensive Reading PjBL dapat memperbaiki kemampuan membaca dan aktifitas mahasiswa. Kesimpulannya, Extensive Reading PjBL memberikan kesempatan bekerja sama dan berinteraksi. Fakta tersebut berhasil memperbaiki kemampuan membaca mereka. Penulis merekomendasikan teknik ini untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca. Peneliti yang akan datang disarankan mendesain penelitian serupa dengan sesuatu yang baru dengan mempertimbangkan kondisi dan karakteristik mereka.The research is intended to estimate Extensive Reading Project Based Learning (PjBL) which can improve students' reading achievement and to examine whether Extensive Reading PjBL can improve students' activities. The population was second-semester students of English study program of STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung consisted of 30 students. A reading test was provided to measure the students’ reading achievement, and the observation checklist was used to record the progress of students’ activities. The result revealed that the Extensive Reading PjBL can improve the achievement of students’ reading comprehension. Moreover, the Extensive Reading PjBL can increase the students’ activities in doing the project. In conclusion, the stages of Extensive Reading PjBL provided a lot of chances for students to work together in their group and interacted directly among the members. Subconsciously, they enjoyed the process and positive atmosphere was created, then. They were helping each other among the members and they were really interactive. Those facts above made the students successfully in promoting their reading comprehension achievement through Extensive Reading PjBL technique. Therefore, the writer recommends the English teacher/ lecturer to apply this technique to promote the students’ reading comprehension. For further researchers, they are suggested to design a similar area of research with something new for students by considering the learners' condition and characteristics.Keywords: Extensive reading, project based learning, reading comprehension.
