Abstract

This research had aimed to describe the use of M-Learning in teaching English for Civil Engineering students at Harapan University of Medan. M-learning as Digital teaching materials were made based on the students need which consist of learning materials. M-learning as Digital teaching materials can be used by lecturer to create more interesting learning materials, by adding videos and animations. The use of M-learning as digital teaching materials was examined based on concepts understanding and students? response. The subject of this research was 25 students of engineering students. The concepts of understanding were measured by exam test. The students' response was measured based on Likert-scales. The data analysis used was a descriptive statistic. The method of this research was quantitative method. Waterfall model was used in designing M-learning material. The results of this research is the score of students? conceptual understanding x = (85 ± 8) and students? response can be categorized very good (percentage of effectiveness are 85%). The results showed that the use of M-learning as digital teaching materials are effective to use in teaching English for civil engineering students at Harapan University of Medan.

Abstract

This study aims to generate critical thinking assessment instrument for seven graders within organism interaction in an environment with an appropriate validity and reliability level. The design of this instrument is developed using stages suggested by Borg and Gall. The stages are researching and collecting information, planning, developing a preliminary product, conducting the limited examination, revising product from limited examination, field testing, revising product from field testing, and finalizing product. The result of content and construction validation shows that the level of feasibility is 88,35% and categorized as very feasible. While the degree of readability of assessment items is 93,51% and it is categorized as excellent. The coefficient of inter-rater reliability of assessment items is 0,951 and categorized as excellent. The instrument acquires reliability coefficient 0,792 for multiple choice and 0,753 for essay items. This study shows that the content, construction, and items in assessment are feasible.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan instrumen asesmen berpikir kritis untuk siswa SMP kelas VII pada materi interaksi makhluk hidup dengan lingkungan dengan tingkat validitas dan reliabilitas yang memadai. Rancangan penelitian menggunakan model pengembangan menurut Borg & Gall, yang meliputi langkah-langkah: penelitian dan pengumpulan informasi, perencanaan, pengembangan produk awal, uji coba terbatas, revisi produk uji coba terbatas, uji coba lapangan, revisi uji coba produk lapangan, dan penyempurnaan produk akhir. Berdasarkan hasil validasi isi dan konstruk diperoleh tingkat kelayakan produk sebesar 88,35% berada pada kriteria sangat layak. Tingkat keterbacaan soal asesmen sebesar 93,51% dengan kategori sangat baik. Koefisien inter-rater reliability pada soal asesmen bentuk penugasan sebesar 0,951 dengan kategori sangat baik. Instrumen tersebut mempunyai koefisien reliabilitas sebesar 0,792 (soal pilihan ganda) dan 0,753 (esai). Kesimpulan hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa  berdasarkan validasi isi, konstruk, dan butir soal adalah layak untuk digunakan.

Abstract

Secara harfiah, bagian tubuh manusia terdiri dari dua bagian yaitu bagian luar dan bagian dalam. Pada kurikulum pendidikan anak usia dini pada tahun 2013, anak anak diwajibkan untuk mengenali bagian luar pada tubuh. karna alasan inilah penulis dari skripsi ini merancang suatu aplikasi program untuk membuat proses belajar dan mengajar dalam pembahahasan pengenalan bagian tubuh luar lebih mudah dan efisien untuk dimengerti. Penulis membuat program ini dengan menggunakan dua bahasa yaitu bahasa Indonesia dan Bahasa Inggris. Kedua bahasa ini juga akan berguna untuk mengembangkan bahasa para anak didik. Aplikasi ini dirancang menggunakan software Construct 2. Aplikasi ini hanya bisa dijalankan pada smartphone yang berbasis android. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah aplikasi 2D yang digunakan untuk pengenalan tematik diriku. Metode yang digunakan dalam aplikasi ini adalah metode waterfall.

Abstract

This descriptive qualitative research deals with classroom interaction in teaching English for mechanical engineering students. This research aims at finding out and describing the classroom interaction of mechanical engineering class at Universitas Harapan Medan. The purpose of this study is to figure out the patterns of classroom interaction in English teaching learning process for mechanical engineering class. The methods used in collecting data were observation and interview. The data were in the form of words, clauses, and sentences that carried out by video, and in-depth interview transcripts. The participants were an English lecturer and twenty two mechanical engineering students. The technique of data analysis used data collection, data diplay and drawing conclusion. The result of this research was dominated by the interaction between the teacher and students. The percentage of using English  between lecturer and students? interaction is 40 %. It happened because the students had difficult to respon the lecturer?s question in English.
