Abstract

The increase of energy needs coupled with the decline in fossil fuel production, requires other sources of energy to meet those needs. One of the solution is using renewable energy. Bioethanol is one of the alternatives to the fossil fuel. This study was aimed at determining the exact mass of mango seeds in producing high grade bioethanol. Bioethanol was produced by fermentation of arum manis mango fruit seed using bakers yeast, Sacczharomyces cerevisiae.  The arum manis mango seeds were known to contain carbohydrate contents of 19.53%. The study was conducted by using different mass of mango seeds 25, 35 and 45 g resectively. The study showed that the samples of 25, 35 and 45 g produce ethanol with concentration of 4.78, 6.64 and 1.48%. These results indicated that the mass of 35 g mango seeds produced highest ethanol content.

Abstract

Kualitas pendidikan di Indonesia masih rendah khususnya dalam bidang sains berdasarkan hasil studi PISA dan TIMSS. Salah satu cara yang dilakukan oleh pemerintah adalah melalui pendayagunaan bahan ajar. Bahan ajar memiliki peran yang penting dalam pembelajaran termasuk pembelajaran terpadu. Namun dalam kenyataannya, bahan ajar IPA Terpadu yang beredar belum menunjukkan keseimbangan kategori literasi sains. Oleh sebab itu, perlu dikembangkan bahan ajar IPA terpadu yang berbasis literasi sains. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui karakteristik, tingkat kelayakan dan keterbacaan bahan ajar, serta peningkatan kemampuan literasi sains siswa. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian dan pengembangan (Research and Development). Karakteristik bahan ajar memiliki empat aspek literasi sains yang dikemas dengan proporsi yang seimbang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan tingkat kelayakan bahan ajar sebesar 91,73% dan tingkat keterbacaan bahan ajar sebesar 91,51%. Selain itu, peningkatan kemampuan literasi sains untuk ranah kognitif pada kelas eksperimen sebesar 0,67 , sedangkan pada kelas kontrol sebesar 0,21. Hasil belajar ranah psikomotorik dan afektif kelas eksperimen lebih besar dibandingkan kelas kontrol. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa bahan ajar yang dikembangkan dapat meningkatkan kemampuan literasi sains siswa. The quality of education in Indonesia is still low, especially in science is based on the results of PISA and TIMSS studies. One way in which the government is through the utilization of teaching materials. Teaching materials have an important role in learning included in the integrated learning. But in reality, integrated science teaching materials has not shown any outstanding balance scientific literacy category. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an integrated science teaching materials based scientific literacy. This study aims to determine the characteristics, the feasibility and readability of teaching materials, and the enhancement of students' science literacy skills. The method used is a method of research and development. Characteristics of teaching materials has four aspects that are packed with well-balanced proportions. The results showed the feasibility level of 91.73% of teaching materials and teaching materials readability level of 91.51%. In addition, the enhancement of students' science literacy skills in the experimental class of 0.67, while the control class is 0.21. Results psychomotor and affective domains of learning experiment class is greater than the control class. This shows that the teaching materials developed can increase scientific literacy of students.
