Abstract

Abstract: The aim of this study is to describe the motivation of 121 teachers’ work at private Elementary School in Jakarta. The study of research objects as determinant factors include teachers’ commitment to school, the perception of leadership behaviors, and workplace conditions. Those variables are measured with assessment and behavior scale which the reliability is more than 0,90. Results of this study show that there is a positive and significant relationship of the three determinant factors toward the motivations of work, either individually or collectively. The effort that needs to be followed up is to maintain headmasters’ role as a leader because leadership is meaningful as a determinant factor that is important to increasing teachers’ motivation of work.Keywords: teachers’ motivation of work, determinant factorAbstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan motivasi kerja 121 guru SD sekolah swasta di Jakarta. Kajian objek penelitian sebagai faktor determinan meliputi komitmen terhadap sekolah, persepsi terhadap perilaku kepemimpinan, dan kondisi tempat kerja. Variabel-variabel tersebut diukur dengan skala penilaian dan skala sikap yang memiliki reliabilitas masing-masing di atas 0,90. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya hubungan yang positif dan signifikan dari ketiga faktor determinan terhadap motivasi kerja, baik secara sendiri-sendiri maupun bersama-sama. Usaha yang perlu ditindaklanjuti adalah mempertahankan peran kepala sekolah yang baik sebagai pimpinan karena kepemimpinan sangat bermakna sebagai faktor determinan yang penting untuk meningkatkan motivasi kerja para guru.Kata kunci: motivasi kerja guru, faktor determinan

Abstract

The success or failure of any organizations including education institution depends on the leader behavior. A school principal needs to play their role as a leader and manager in order to create conducive learning environment. The task of school principal consist of planning programs and academic activities; in the process, some factors that become barriers include: 1) planning such as teachers, financial, time, administration works, and external influence; 2) monitoring and evaluation of all activities, the implementation of learning process, financial, students’ mentoring, and teachers’ assistance; 3) follow up of improvement or development, for finding solution and re-evaluate.  Some competencies that compulsory to be a school principal are managerial competency, pedagogic, intellectual competency, personality and social competency. The instrument of this research was open –ended questionnaire that had been answered by school principals and also a grading scale that had been filled by primary school teachers. This research used descriptive narrative analysis and comparative analysis. The results gained from case studies among 11 private primary schools. It revealed that school principals tend to use transformational leadership style rather than transactional leadership style. Keywords: competency, leadership style, transformational leadership behavior, transactional leadership behavior

Abstract

Abstract: Efforts of improving quality of work life of elementary schools' teachers. A quality of education can be more determined by a quality of educator than amount of educational fund and completeness of facilities. Results of the research on 363 sample of state elementary teachers  and private elementary teachers in Jakarta showed that self confidency, commitment towards career as teachers, and competencies of class management given direct effect on quality of work life of  elementary schools'teachers. The efforts of improving quality of work life, specifically of  elementary schools' teachers can be conducted through a variety of activities, such as conducting an activity quality task force (eg. KKG, MGMP) continually so they can improve their  that self confidency, conducting enrichment of competencies through action research so they can improve their class management competencies, and improving their profesional competencies by following teachers profession education program. Efforts that is needed conducting by government is activating Institution of Educational Quality Assurance so teachers can be monitored dan evaluated programed dan responsible.   Abstrak: Kualitas pendidikan lebih ditentukan oleh kualitas pendidiknya dan bukan oleh besarnya dana pendidikan dan juga bukan oleh kelengkapan sarana. Hasil penelitian pada 363 sampel guru SD negeri dan swasta di Jakarta menunjukkan bahwa kepercayaan diri, komitmen terhadap karir sebagai guru, dan kemampuan mengelola kelas memberikan efek langsung terhadap kualitas kehidupan kerja guru SD. Usaha meningkatkan kualitas kehidupan kerja, khususnya guru SD, dapat dilakukan dengan berbagai kegiatan, antara lain melakukan aktivitas gugus kualitas (misalnya: KKG, MGMP) secara kontinu agar dapat meningkatkan kemampuan dan kepercayaan dirinya, melaksanakan pemerkayaan kompetensi melalui penelitian tindakan kelas sehingga kemampuan mengelola kelasnya dapat lebih baik, dan menambah kompetensi profesional dengan mengikuti program Pendidikan Profesi Guru. Usaha yang perlu dilakukan dari pihak pemerintah adalah mengaktifkan Lembaga Penjaminan Mutu Pendidikan (LPMP) agar melakukan monitoring dan evaluasi secara terprogram dan bertanggungjawab.
