Abstract

Abstract: This descriptive qualitative research aims to describe the form of mathematical representation that arises when students understand the relationship between changes in the coefficient of trigonometric functions with their graphical functions through GeoGebra media. Students in a class of 30 students are selected as research subjects and given a Student Worksheet. From the results of the student's work, it can be seen that there are 3 types of the tendency of representation that are used by students to complete Worksheets. Of the 3 types of trends, each student is taken 1 person who will further discuss the results of his work randomly because it is considered to represent the work of other students. The results showed that students represented Geogebra's appearance in 3 forms namely verbal representation, mathematical expression representation, and visual representation.Abstrak: Tujuan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif adalah untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk representasi matematis yang muncul ketika mahasiswa memahami hubungan antara perubahan koefisien fungsi trigonometri dengan grafik fugsinya lewat media GeoGebra. Mahasiswa dalam satu kelas yang berjumlah 30 mahasiswa dipilih sebagai subjek penelitian dan diberikan Lembar Kerja Mahasiswa. Dari hasil pekerjaan mahasiswa tersebut, terlihat ada tiga tipe kecenderungan bentuk representasi yang digunakan mahasiswa untuk menyelesaikan Lembar Kerja. Dari tiga tipe kecenderungan tersebut masing-masing diambil satu mahasiswa yang akan dibahas lebih lanjut hasil pekerjaanya secara random karena dinilai dapat mewakili hasil pekerjaan mahasiswa yang lain. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa  mahasiswa merepresentasikan tampilan Geogebra dalam tiga bentuk, yakni representasi verbal, representasi ekpresi matematis, dan representasi visual.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the initial conception of prospective teachers about creative thinking in mathematics. This research used a qualitative research method. The Research was conducted at private universities in Semarang, held in the second semester of the academic year 2016/2017. The subjects were six students of the seventh semester. This research used two instruments; test to explore the concept of creative thinking and interview. This study provides findings that there are similarities in the concept of prospective teachers in mathematical creative thinking. The prospective teacher's conception of the creative thinking of mathematics leads to the emergence of new concepts or ideas in completing mathematical problems based on experience. The appearance of the new idea in question is to solve a different problem from the existing procedure and solve the problem with a different perspective that is still logical. The prospective teacher's said that it was necessary for prospective teachers to understand the concept of creative thinking in mathematics to solve mathematical problems from various perspectives based on his learning experience.

Abstract

This research was conducted to proposepre-service elementary teachers? (PsET)written communication in explaining multiplication representation, especially using area representation. Communication has an important role in learning process. Through communication, one can show or confirm his or her knowledge. The subjects of this research were 9 university students as the PsET. The subjects were asked to write the explanation of multiplication using area representation on a paper. After that, the researcher confirmed it by asking the subjects to re-explain that mentioned representation on a board as if they really taught elementary school students. From the result of this research, it is identified three main findings that can be obtained from written communication of the PsET, they are 1) expressing procedural and conceptual knowledge, 2) expressing ability in constructing connection, and 3) improvingthe confidence of PsET.

Abstract

The main objective of this research will implement the onto-semiotics approach to analyse the conceptual of mathematical meaning in a modelling context corresponding to their use of the mathematical objects. Semiotics functions and mathematical object that emerged when solving mathematical modelling will be highlighted according to OSA. Students responses to modelling questions were used to classify the semiotics function that relates to the different mathematical objects.

Abstract

Abstract: Understanding the thinking process of students in mathematical problem solvingis very important for the teacher. Every student has different abilities in problems solving. Ill structured problems depend on the type of intelligence they have. This research uses descriptive qualitative research. The purpose of this study is to describe the thinking process of students with logical mathematical intelligence in solving limited mathematical information problems. The subject of this study consisted of one grade VIII junior high school student who had high logical mathematical intelligence. The results showed that the thinking process of students with logical mathematical intelligence in completing "Ill structured problems" used several stages of completion in the form of: (1) solving the problem (parsing the problem) into several important parts, (2) connecting various information also used, and (3) completing by adding information and changing information, so that it will be easier to solve problems Ill structured problems.Abstrak: Memahami proses berpikir siswa dalam menyelesaikan  masalah matematika sangat penting bagi guru. Setiap siswa memiliki kemampuan yang berbeda-beda dalam memecahkan masalah Ill structured problems tergantung dari jenis kecerdasan yang dimilikinya. Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan proses berpikir siswa berkecerdasan matematis logis dalam menyelesaikan masalah matematis informasi terbatas. Subjek penelitian ini terdiri satu orang siswa kelas VIII SMP yang memiliki kecerdasan matematis logis yang tinggi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa proses berpikir siswa berkecerdasan matematis logis dalam menyelesaikan ?Ill structured problems? menggunakan beberapa tahap penyelesaian berupa (1) memecah masalah (mengurai masalah) menjadi beberapa bagian penting, (2) menghubungkan berbagai informasi juga digunakan, dan (3) menyelesaikan dengan cara menambah informasi dan mengubah informasi sehingga akan lebih mudah dalam menyelesaikan masalah Ill structured problems.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to describe the creative reasoning of junior high school students in solving the SPLDV problem. The description is based on four indicators. There are novelty, flexibility, plausibility, and mathematical foundation. This research is an explorative research with qualitative approach. This research was conducted on the students of class VIII-C SMP 13 Malang. Subsequently two research subjects were selected that satisfy all the indicators of creative reasoning and also considered the advice of the mathematics teacher. The results of the research that the subjects of S1 and S2 study using creative reasoning in solving the SPLDV problem, S1 and S2 satisfy all the creative reasoning indicators. There are (1) Novelty, S1 and S2 provide a unique strategy different from the standard strategy has been studied (elimination and substitution), which sum two known equations, to obtain an answer. (2) Flexibility, S1 and S2 completed SPLDV with different strategies. S1 and S2 using the method of elimination, mixed methods (elimination and substitution), as well as a unique method that is by summing two known linear equations. (3) Plausibility, S1 and S2 can provide arguments well. namely to provide a logical reason at each stage of completion. But at number 2, S2 uses intuitive intention, the idea that emerges as a guess and test strategy in making decisions based on feeling and intrinsic that produce spontaneous answers. (4) Mathematical foundation, S1 and S2 use the properties of algebraic operations well in completing the given SPLDV. There are operation of addition, subtraction and simplification.Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan penalaran kreatif  siswa SMP dalam menyelesaikan masalah sistem persamaan linier dua variabel (SPLDV). Pendeskripsian tersebut menggunakan empat indikator, yaitu kebaruan (novelty), fleksibilitas (flexibility), hal yang masuk akal (plausibility) dan dasar matematis (mathematical foundation). Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksploratif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada siswa kelas VIII-C SMP 13 Malang. Selanjutnya, dipilih dua subjek penelitian yang memenuhi semua indikator penalaran kreatif dan juga mempertimbangkan saran dari guru matematika. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan subjek penelitian S1 dan S2 memenuhi semua indikator penalaran kreatif, yaitu (1) Kebaruan (novelty), S1 dan S2 memberikan strategi penyelesaian unik (baru) yang berbeda dengan strategi penyelesaian standart yang telah dipelajari. S1 dan S2 menggunakan strategi menjumlahkan 2 persamaan yang diketahui. (2) Fleksibilitas (flexibility), S1 dan S2 dapat menyelesaikan SPLDV dengan tiga strategi. S1 dan S2 menggunakan metode eliminasi, metode campuran (eliminasi dan subtitusi), serta metode yang unik (baru) (3) Hal yang masuk akal (plausibility), S1 dan S2 memberikan argumen dengan baik. S1 dan S2 dapat memberikan alasan logis pada setiap tahap  penyelesain. Namun, pada nomor 2, S2 menggunakan intuitif intensi yaitu ide yang muncul sebagai strategi guess and test dalam membuat keputusan berdasarkan feeling dan intrinsik yang menghasilkan jawaban spontan. (4) Dasar Matematis (mathematical foundation), S1 dan S2 menggunakan sifat-sifat operasi aljabar dengan baik dalam menyelesaikan SPLDV yang diberikan, yaitu operasi penjumlahan, pengurangan, dan penyederhanaan.

Abstract

Abstract: The need for variations in learning resources for students of SMK Diponegoro Tumpang and the development of 2stcentury technology are the basis of this development research. The purpose of this paper is to describe the development of valid, practical and effective learning media for combinatoric material. This development uses the ADDIE model. The test subjects in the development of learning media consisted of expert validators, practitioner validators, observers, 5 students of class XII as group trials, and 22 students of class XII KPR as field trials. The instruments used were learning media, lesson plans, observation sheets, student response questionnaires, and teacher response questionnaires. The results of the development state that learning media are valid, practical, and very effective.Abstrak: Kebutuhan variasi sumber belajar bagi siswa SMK Diponegoro Tumpang dan perkembangan teknologi abad 21 merupakan dasar dari penelitian pengembangan ini. Tujuan penulisan ini adalah mendeskripsikan pengembangan media pembelajaran materi kombinatorika yang valid, praktis, dan efektif. Pengembangan ini menggunakan model ADDIE. Subjek uji coba dalam pengembangan media pembelajaran ini terdiri dari validator ahli, validator praktisi, observer, 5 siswa kelas XII sebagai uji coba kelompok, dan 22 siswa kelas XII KPR sebagai uji coba lapangan. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah media pembelajaran, RPP, lembar observasi, angket respon siswa, dan angket respon guru. Hasil pengembangan menyatakan bahwa media pembelajaran valid, praktis, dan sangat efektif.

Abstract

This study aims to explore students’ proportional reasoning in solving multiplicative problems on products of measurement type. Three 8 grade students of Public Junior High School 21 Malang were being purposively studied. The sampling technique is also called as the judgement sampling. Data then was being analyzed in three steps: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing/verification. The data were studied and analyzed based on Bexter’s and Junker’s Constructions of Proportional Reasoning theory consisting of five stages: (1) qualitative; (2) early attempts at quantifying; (3) recognition of multiplicative relationships; (4) accommodating covariance and invariance, and (5) functional and scalar relationships. Result shows that students with low capability (S1) solved problems by registering the number of first measurement then pair it with second measurement by summing the two measurements identified as early attempts at quantifying phase. It is also found that students with moderate capability (S2) solved the problem by registering all existing possibilities and then summing them all, concluding them qualified as being in recognition of multiplicative relationships phase. Moreover, students with high capability (S3) solved the problem by listing the number of the first measurement then multiplying it with the second measurement, qualifying them as being in the accommodating covariance and invariance phase in proportional reasoning.

Abstract

It is revealed that as a compulsory mathematic subject for junior high school students, most students are struggling to solve geometric problem. As an effort to fix this condition, this article describes mistakes of junior high school students’ structural thinking in solving geometric problem. Subjects’ mistake were assessed by Subanji’s (2015) theory of conceptual construction mistake and mathematical problem solving. Researcher then defragmented subjects’ thinking structure in order to solve problems effectively. The result shows that subjects experienced miss logical construction and construction gap. Miss logical construction occurred because students’ logical mistake in solving the problem, while the construction gap happened due to certain incomplete schemes in subjects’ problem solving thinking structure. Defragmenting was conducted by assessing mistakenly constructed scheme. Then, unconstructed scheme was revealed. When scheme had considered as sufficient, the constructed scheme were knitted into an interconnected scheme and subjects’ thinking structure became complete. Decomposition of incorrect structured schemes used cognitive conflict, while scheme and scheme knitting applied scaffolding.
