Abstract

Premature loss of deciduous teeth is defined as the loss of deciduous teeth before they approach the eruption of the permanent teeth. The aim of this study is to find out the relationship between premature loss of deciduous teeth and the malocclusion according to the Angle’s Classification on Elementary School students children in Cimahi. The type of this research is analytic with a cross sectional research design. The samples are 77 students (7-11 year-old). The sampling method is cluster random sampling. The result shows that the prevalence of premature loss of deciduous teeth was 36.4% and the prevalence of malocclusion is 76.62%. Base on Angle’s Classification, it is revealed that 23.4% of the population has normal occlusion. The percentage of Angle’s class I malocclusion is 45,5%, class II is 23.4% and class III is 7.8%. There is a significant relationship between premature loss of deciduous teeth and its malocclusion (p-value = 0,000). It is concluded that all the students have premature loss of deciduous teeth with malocclusion. Keywords: Premature Loss, Deciduous Teeth, Malocclusion

Abstract

Kawat ortodontik stainless steel (SS) mengandung unsur kromium yang memiliki sifat tahan terhadap korosi sehingga banyak digunakan dalam perawatan ortodontik. Vitamin C atau asam askorbat merupakan salah satu vitamin yang dibutuhkan oleh tubuh.Vitamin C bermanfaat dalam menjaga keutuhan kolagen. Kolagen mempunyai berbagai peran penting bagi tubuh yaitu membantu penyembuhan luka, memelihara kesehatan jaringan penghubung, dan membantu melindungi sel-sel tubuh. Salah satu pengobatan terhadap defisiensi vitamin C adalah dengan mengkonsumsi vitamin C selama 7-10 hari. Vitamin C mempunyai sifat asam yang dapat menyebabkan reaksi kimia sehingga bersifat korosif dan dapat mengoksidasi logam kawat dengan cara melepaskan ion-ion yang terkandung di dalamnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh lama perendaman kawat SS dalam larutan vitamin C terhadap pelepasan ion kromium. Metode penelitian adalah laboratorium eksperimental.. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan quota sampling atau pengambilan sampel berjatah yaitu kawat SS sebanyak 10 buah. Seluruh sampel direndam di dalam larutan vitamin C sebanyak 10 ml selama satu menit dalam 7 hari. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa terdeteksi pelepasan ion kromium tertinggi pada pengukuran hari keenam dalam konsentrasi rendah sebesar 0,0190 mg/l. Pelepasan ion kromium terjadi karena kawat SS mengalami oksidasi berkontak dengan vitamin C yang asam. Hasil analisis statistik uji multivariat General Linear Model-Repeated Measure (GLM-RM) menunjukan nilai signifikansi sebesar 0,476 atau p>0,05 artinya tidak terdapat pengaruh yang bermakna pada lama perendaman kawat SS dalam larutan vitamin C terhadap pelepasan ion kromium sampai pada hari ketujuh. Pelepasan ion kromium kawat SS terdeteksi dalam batas aman sehingga vitamin C aman digunakan untuk pengguna ortodontik.
