Abstract

Background: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex developmental disorder, increasing in number, faster than that of other developmental disorders in the world. This complex disorder affects a child’s self-autonomy, which is important for individual self-care.Objective : This study is to explore main caregivers’ experience to meet self-care needs among adolescents with ASD in Pontianak, West Borneo, Indonesia.Methods: Qualitative semi-structured in-depth interviews were done with 7 main caregivers that have lived together and taken care of the adolescents with ASD in Pontianak Municipality, West Borneo Province. Sampling was taken with purposive sampling (maximum variation). Source (interviews) and method (observations of self-care activities and documents like photos, learning reports and field notes) triangulations were taken on 1 participant and 7 autistic adolescents. Participants’ statements were recorded by using a voice recorder, and then transcribed, coded, interpreted, and categorized in order that sub-topics and main topics could be formed.Results: The study identified five main topics: i.e., 1) Autonomy in self-care; 2) Care effort; 3) Feelings, support, and expectations. Three findings of the study emphasize the potentials of children with autism to be autonomous in daily self-care.Conclusions: Adolescents with ASD can potentially meet the needs of their daily care independently.

Abstract

The aims of this research are to know: (1) the effect of the teacher’s competence in the implementation of 2013 Curriculum toward the students’ Cognitive learning achievement in the subject of Business Principles of XI Marketing class of SMK Negeri 1 Karanganyar, (2) the effect of the learning process in the implementation of 2013 Curriculum toward the students’ cognitive learning achievement in the subject of Business Principles of XI Marketing class of SMK Negeri 1 Karanganyar, (3) the effect of the teacher’s competence and learning process in the implementation of 2013 Curriculum toward the students’ cognitive learning achievement in the subject of Business Principles of XI Marketing class of SMK Negeri 1 Karanganyar. This is a casual associative research which used quantitative approach. The technique of sampling used in this research is convenience sampling/saturated sampling. The technique of collecting the data was done by using questionnaire. The technique of analyzing the data used was double regression, t-test and f-test.Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that (1) there is an effect of the teacher’s competence in the implementation of 2013 Curriculum toward the student’s cognitive learning achievement in the subject of Business Principles of XI Marketing class. It can be shown by the score of tstatistic > ttest; 9,552 > 1,667. (2) There is an effect of the learning process in the implementation of 2013 Curriculum toward the student’s learning achievement in the subject of Business Principles of  XI Marketing class. It can be shown by the score of tstatistic > ttable; 2,036 > 1,667. (3) There is an effect of the teacher’s competence and learning process in the implementation of 2013 Curriculum toward the student’s learning achievement in the subject of Business Principles of XI Marketing class. It can be shown by the score of tstatistic > ttable; 51,726 > 3,128.

Abstract

Background: The decline in Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) in developing countries still does not meet the target of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The rise of childbirth with the help of traditional birth attendants and cultural practices still becomes the choice of women of productive age to give birth today. Objective: This study aimed to explore the Malay culture practice and childbirth with traditional birth attendants in women of productive age in West Borneo, Indonesia.Methods: This was a phenomenological study conducted on in 2018 in one district in West Borneo. Focus Group Discussion (FDG) was done with eight Malay tribal women who had given birth with the help of Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs). Thematic analysis was used. Results: Cultural practices during pregnancy, childbirth and the care of newborns, the services of TBAs, and the economy factor were strong reasons for mothers to choose to give birth assisted by TBAs although they were aware of the risks. This study identified five main themes, namely: 1) Reason for choosing TBAs, 2) TBAs’ service, 3) Cultural trust in pregnancy, 4) Cultural trust in labor, and 5) Cultural trust in caring for newborns.Conclusion: Our findings revealed that culture and childbirth cannot be separated. Health practitioners should have different approach by involving culture and TBAs in childbirth among women of productive age in West Borneo Indonesia.
