Abstract

The red chick barb (Puntius orphoides) is one of fresh water ichtiofauna included in family Cyprinidae found a lot in River Klawing, the biggest and richest river in Purbalingga with 18 species of fish.  The aim of this study was to find out the differences between male and female red chick barb by truss morphometrics and to find out truss morphometrics distance.  The material used were sex mature fish from River Klawing.  The variables meassured included morphometry based on truss morphometrics point, number of male and female fish.  Truss distance was then compared to the total length so that the truss distance ratio was determined.  Next, a statistical test i.e. t test was performed between the male and female fish.  The results of this study showed that the male and female red chick barb can be distinguished by truss morphometrics method.  The distance ratio to be used as diagnostic character were 11 and 24 ration of truss morphometrics distance compared found in the head, body, and tail.

Abstract

A study on The Gender Determination Of Betutu Germ (Oxyeleotris marmorata Blkr.) by Truss Morphometrics used survey method with Simple Random Sampling design, Betutu’s germ as sample were taken from Penjalin reservoir,  Brebes. The 26 distance of 13 pile points were based or Truss Morphometrics it were recorded as variables. The result of this research indicated that the size of Betutu’s A2 (origin anterior tip of snout at upper jaw – most posterior aspect of neurocranium), A4 (origin posterior point maxillary – origin of pelvic fin), B5 (origin of pelvic fin – origin of dorsal fin), B6 (origin of pelvic fin – origin of anal fin), D1 (insertion of anal fin – origin of lower caudal fin) and D3 (insertion of dorsal II fin – origin of lower caudal fin) can differentiate the gender of Betutu’s germ.

Abstract

Laporan ini memverifikasi keberhasilan protokol tiga tahap ginogenesis tawes melalui inaktivasi genom jantan dengan iradiasi ultra violet (UV), fertilisasinya, dilanjutkan diploidisasi zigot dengan kejut panas (400 C) selama 60 detik. Eksperimen Rancangan Acak Lengkap, tujuh perlakuan yaitu, kontrol positif (fertilisasi normal); kontrol negatif1 telur difertilisasi dengan milt encer yang di UV 1983,348 J/m2; kontrol negatif2 dosis iradiasinya 3966,96 J/m2; ginogenesis1 kontrol negatif1 lalu dikejut panas pada 10 menit pasca fertilisasi; ginogenesis2 ginogenesis1 beda waktu kejut pada 15 menit pasca fertilisasi; ginogenesis3 kontrol negatif2 lalu dikejut pada 10 menit pasca fertilisasi; dan ginogenesis4 ginogenesis3 beda waktu kejut pada 15 menit pasca fertilisasi. Materi gamet segar diperoleh dari induk yang diinduksi GnRH analog dan domperindon dosis 1,5 ml/kg bobot induk intramuskuler, 6-10 jam sebelumnya. Milt segar diencerkan 100 x dalam larutan Ringer. Data dianalisis dengan uji Anova, menggunakan program SPSS. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa data fertilitas, data penetasan dan data kelangsungan hidup yang terbukti homogen (p>0,05), menunjukkan bahwa ketujuh perlakuan secara statistik fertilitas, penetasan, dan kelangsungan hidupnya tidak nyata (p>0,05) antar pelakuan. Data persentase morfologi larva abnormal tawes menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan yang dicobakan memberikan pengaruh yang sangat nyata (P<0,01). Secara keseluruhan dapat disimpulan bahwa, keempat perlakuan mitoginogenesis yang diujikan efektif menghasilkan larva mitoginogenesis ikan tawes walaupun efektifitasnya masih tergolong rendah. Efektivitas perlakuan dibuktikan dari signifikansi data morfologi larva abnormal dariklompok kontrol negatif membuktikan efektivitas dosis inaktivasi genetis jantan dan morfologi larva normal hasil perlakuan ginogenesis membuktikan efektivitas diploidisasi kejut panas tidak berbeda dari morfologi kontrol positif.

Abstract

The red chick barb [Puntius orphoides (Valenciennes 1842)] is a member of Cyprinidae with high economic value. However, this species is still uncultured. The high market demand is fulfilled by direct collection  from their natural habitat.  In order to avoid overexploitation, domestication effort is needed.  The success of this effort needs some biological information e.g. reproductive characters.  This research aims to know some reproductive characters of red cheek barb collected at Klawing River Purbalingga Central Java.  A survey method was used with performing simple random sampling technique. The measured parameters were gonad maturity, fecundity, and gonad somatic indices (GSI) related to total length. The fish were collected monthly from June until November 2009. Data analysis includes length distribution, and correlation among gonad maturity, fecundity, and gonad somatic indices with body length. The result showed that red cheek barb from Klawing River has variable body length, most of the female individuals (34.37%) had body length ranges from 14.3-16.2 cm, whereas the majority of the male individuals (44.95%) had length distribution from 12.1-14.6 cm. The variation on  gonad maturity was observed during the research both on female and male individuals. However, most of the populations were on the highest level of gonad maturity (level IV) only in September and October. A positive correlation between gonad maturity and body length was observed on the male individuals (r=0.0424) as well as on the female individuals (r=0.4339). The fecundity was ranges from 4.097 up to 32.794 eggs. A positive correlation was also observed between fecundity and body length (r=0.6403). A monthly GSI variation was found both on the female and the male individuals with the highest peak of GSI was observed in September and October. A positive correlation between GSI and body length was found on female individuals (r=7.07 x 10-3) as well as on male individuals (r=0.376).

Abstract

The fish auction site at Ocean Fishing Port of Cilacap is one of the major fish landings sites in Indonesia. Fishes landed in this port mainly of large pelagic fish, bycatch, crustaceans including kemprit fish (Ilisha megaloptera Swainson,1839). Kemprit fish is a member of the family Pristigasteridae, which has an elongated body shape-sprawl. Fishers use this fish as the main ingredient to produce fish crackers and dried salted fish. Overfishing is the greatest threat to kemprit fish, and without conservation efforts the future population is uncertain. Fish farming is one right answer in kemprit fish conservation. However, information on this fish biology is insufficient. One of the biological aspects is sexual dimorphism, the morphological properties that can be used to distinguish between male and female fish. Truss morphometrics can measure the morphological traits differences of male and female. This technique in which the measurement of the distance Truss morphometrics in certain parts, by the benchmark points (dots Truss morphometrics), then compared with standard size. The result of the preliminary survey indicated that kemprit fish did not show sexual dimorphism, therefore truss morphometric technique applies to distinguish sexes of this fish. This research was a survey, and purposive sampling techniques were used to collect data. Data were then analyzed using the “t” test. The results showed that distinct truss distance between male and female fish was the distance between the anterior base of the dorsal fin to the anterior base of the ventral fins and the distance between the posterior base of the dorsal fin to the anterior base of the anal fin.
