Abstract

The purpose of this research was to get a combination of bagasse and sawdust on the quality of briquettes produced. The method used in this research was Completely Randomized Design, with five treatments and three replications. The treatment used a combination of bagasse and sawdust 0%: 100%, 25%: 75%, 50%: 50%, 75%: 25%, and 100%: 0%. The data obtained were analyzed using Analysis of Variance and continued with Duncan Multiple Range Test at 5% level. The best treatment was briquette 25%: 75% briqutte with water content of 6.3023%, ash content 11.1221%, steam content 22.2391%, carbon content bound to 60.3365%, calorific value 5460 kal.g-1, and fuel 0.0018 g.s -1. Keywords :briquette, bagasse,sawdust.

Abstract

Dry banana leaves contain beneficial compounds lignin and cellulose which is quite high and has not been utilized optimally. Therefore, the study aims to take advantage of dry banana leaves as the main material for the manufacturing of charcoal briquettes and charcoal briquettes obtain formulations are of good quality. The study was conducted experimentally using Complete Random Design (CRD) with 6 treatments and 3 replications and continued with Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at level 5%. The treatmentsin the research including P0 (charcoal powder dry banana leaveswithout sieve), P1 (charcoal powder dry banana leaves20 mesh), P2 (charcoal powder dry banana leaves40 mesh), P3 (charcoal powder dry banana leaves60 mesh), P4 (charcoal powder dry banana leaves80 mesh), and P5 (charcoal powder dry banana leaves100 mesh). The result of analysis of variance showed that the particle size charcoal dry banana leaves significant effect on ash content, density, calorific value and  fueled power. Selected treatment wasP3 (charcoal powder dry banana leaves 60 mesh) which has a water content 6.80%, ash content of 29.86%, a density of 0.38 g/cm3, 4646 calorific value cal/g, and fueled power 0.0016 g/sec. Keywords: briquettes, dry banana leaves, particle size.

Abstract

The purpose of this research to obtain the best concentration ratio of stabilizer CMC and gum arabic in making of avocado velva. This research used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five treatments and three replications followed by DNMRT test at 5% level. The treatments in this research was CG1(stabilizer CMC:arabic gum=0:1), CG2 (stabilizer CMC:arabic gum= 1:2), CG3 (stabilizer CMC:arabic gum= 1:1), CG4 (stabilizer CMC:arabic gum= 2:1) dan CG5 (stabilizer CMC:arabic gum=1:0). The result of analyis of variance showed that variations combination of stabilizer CMC and gum arabic has significantly affected the overrun, melting rate, total dissolved solid and sensory value on descriptive and hedonic attribute texture. Variations ratio of stabilizer CMC and gum arabic on descriptive and hedonic did not significantly affected attribute colour, flavour and taste of avocado velva. The best treatment in this research was CG4 (stabilizer CMC:arabic gum= 2:1) with overrun 20.30%, melting rate 24.19 minutes, total dissolved solid 32.12 °brix, yellow colour, avocado flavour, avocado taste and soft texture. Abstract

The purpose of this research was to obtain best consentration of CaO catalyst chicken eggshell in transesterification process on quality of biodiesel produced from pangi seed oil. The treatment of CaO catalyst consentrations in this research were S1 (1%), S2 (1.5%), S3 (2%), S4 (2.5%), and S5 (3%). The collected data were statistically analyzed by using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) continued by Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) test at 5% level. The parameters observed were acid value, density, iodium value, saponification value, and cetana number. The results of analysis showedthat consentration of CaO catalyst chicken eggshell gaveunsignificantlyaffect on acid value and cetana number but significantly affect on density, iodium value, saponification valueof biodiesel. The chosen treatment in this research was S5 (CaO catalyst 3%). The treatment of S5 has yield 97.989% with characteristics acid value 0.682 mg KOH/g, density 885.220 kg/m3, iodium value 81.414 g I2/100 g, saponification value 179.00 mg KOH/g, and cetana number 58.473.  Keywords: biodiesel, catalyst CaO, pangi seed oil

Abstract

This research aimed to get the best extraction of time and temperature on the quality of pectin from banana peels horn. This research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors treatments and three replications. First factor the extraction of temperature is T1 (80°C) and T2 (90°C). Second factor the extraction of time is W1 (60 minutes), W2 (70 minutes) and W3 (80 minutes). Parameters measured were yield pectin, moisture content, ash content, methoxyl content, time of jelly, organoleptic assessment descriptively of  pectin colour and pectin jelly. The value of observation were analyzed using Analysis of Varians (ANOVA) followed by Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) on 5% level. The results showed that the interaction between temperature and extraction of time was significants (P<0.05) the water content, methoxyl content and the time of the formation of jelly. Extraction of temperature significants different (P<0.05) on yield, moisture content, ash content, methoxyl, and time of jelly. Extraction  of time was significants (P <0.05), the yield of pectin, moisture content, ash content, methoxyl content, and time of jelly. Based on organoleptic assessment descriptive (colour) of the pectin and jelly is brown and be dark brown with the increase in the temperature and the extraction of time. The best treatment of pectin is extraction of temperature (90°C) and the extraction of time (80 minutes). Keywords: Extraction of temperature, extraction of time, pectin.

Abstract

Increasing need of energy and decreasing of fuel supply requires human to discover alternative energy resources. Consequently, there should be a research to discover a new renewable energy source such as palm leaves waste. Oil palm’s leaves (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) are mostly the least used waste from oil palm plantation as an alternative energy resources. This research aims to discover the precise adhesive consentration rate in sago’s starch (Metroxylon sago Rott.) to make oil palm’s kernel, which are 97%:3%, 96%:4%, 95%:5%, 94%:6%, and 93%:7%. Based on analitycal result of oil palm’s leaves charcoal briquet research, the best quality briquet is the P1 composition which composed rate is 97%:3%, has 3,21% water content, 30,18% ashes content, 0,0022 g/s combustion rate, 20,73% evaporated substance rate, 54,46% carbon rate, and 5.114 cal/g heat value.  Keywords : briquet, oil palm’s leaves, sago starch adhesive.

Abstract

Consequently, there should be a research to discover a new renewable energy source such as durian fruit leather. Durian is biomass that has great potential for bio-briquet. This research aims to discover the precise adhesive consentration rate in sago’s starch , which are 3%, 5%, and 7%. Based on analytical result of durian leather charcoal briquet research, the best quality briquet is the P1 consentration which composed rate are 3%, has 4.04% water content, 19.14% ashes content, 5.502 cal/g heat value, and 0.0017 g/sekoncombustion rate. Keywords: briquet, durian fruit leather, sago starch.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of charcoal briquette from a mixture of corncob and sawdust seed quality according to SNI 01-6235-2000. Research using completely randomized design (CRD) with charcoal treatment comparison corncob and sawdust (P1= 100:0%); (P2= 75:25%); (P3= 5%:50%); (P4= 25:75%); (P5= 0:100%). The result showed that variations in mix charcoal corncob and sawdust significantly affect the moisture content, ash content, calorific value, volatile matter, and fixed carbon content briquettes. The result showed that the best treatment in treatment P4 namely charcoal briquettes are made with 25% charcoal corncob and 75% charcoal sawdust with levels of moisture content 6.238%, ash content 6.889%, calorific value 5714 cal. g-1, volatile matter 11.277%, and fixed carbon content 78.89%. Keywords: Charcoal briquettes, corncob, sawdust

Abstract

Abstract

Avocado seed contain amylose which could be raw material of making edible film. However, edible film  was resulted have durability to low water. Therefore, needed add material hidrofobic which would increase of durability to water of edible film one of is beeswax.This research was conducted experimentaly by used Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with five treatmens and three replications which followed by Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at level 5%. The treatment in this research were B1 (beeswax 5%), B2 (beeswax 10%), B3 (beeswax 15%), B4 (beeswax 20%) and B5 (beeswax 25%). The results of variance analysis showed that addition of concentrations beeswax gave significantly affect on thickness, solubility, water of uptake and water of transfer edible film. The best formulations was obtained on the edible film with addition 5% beeswax which has thickness of 0.28 mm, solubility of 23.59%, water of uptake 313.35% and water of transfer 0.23 g.m-2.hour. Keywords: avocado seed, edible film, beeswax
