Abstract

This research is a preliminary study that aims to investigate the prior-knowledge of high school students in system thinking on the concept of plant classification system. This research method consists descriptive with the participants of 30 students of science class X selected purposively from the high school students population in Bandung city. Students are given multiple choice questions that represent indicators of system thinking. Each correct answer is made a percentage. The results showed that the prior-knowledge of students in the system thinking the concept of plant classification system in the low category. Only 31% of students can describe the components and processes on the system, 24% of students can identify component relationships on the system, 44% of students understand the dynamic behavior of the system, 25% of students can manage system components and processes within the relationship framework and 25% students can understand the nature of the system. Low prior-knowledge of students is due to the tendency of students who think is not comprehensive and can not connect between components to form system when system thinking is required for students to high thinking order.

Abstract

Community-based natural resources in Indonesia are highly diverse and notably important as potential learning resources. One of those local potencies lies in Taman Hutan Kota Langsa. The classroom activities were conducted through the use of bio-booklet containing near extinct plants and native plants of Aceh that existed in Taman Hutan Kota Langsa. With regard to this issue, the current study was carried out to enhance classification skills and conservation attitudes of young learners during field trip to Taman Hutan kota Langsa. The samples of this study were first grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Langsa. Data of conservation attitudes were obtained from questionnaire, whereas data of classification skills were collected using pretest-posttest and student worksheet. In addition, the data were analyzed using mean-difference test and normalized gain score. Preliminary study disclosed that Taman Hutan Kota Langsa is importantly feasible to be learning resource because of its 80 plants species which consist of 5 vulnerable extinct plants and 5 native plants of Aceh. According to the interview with biology teacher from SMA Negeri 5 Langsa, conventional lessons with text-books and indoor learnings were still not effective to enhance classification skills and conservation attitudes of students.

Abstract

Teachers improve learning activity and creativity of students in ecosystem that is using a field trip. Students activities in a field trip are guided through a worksheet to facilitate their observation. Field trip activities implemented in place of Wahana Edukasi Global (WAGLO) Cisalak of Subang District, West Java Province. This study aims to identify and analyze creative thinking ability of students in carrying out field trip. The method used was weak experimental design with one group pretest-posttest. Population subjects in this study were students of grade 10th MA Al-Husna Cisalak Subang District West Java Province. The sample is determined by purposive sampling technique. Data collection was done through a test of creative thinking ability that given at the beginning and end of learning. Data was analyzed by calculating N-gain test result. The results showed that field trip provide enhanced creative thinking ability of students with index N-gain of 0.48 is included in the medium category.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to know the influence of field trip on scientific literacy and attitude towards science of senior high school students before and after the field trip implemetation in ecosystem learning. The research was conducted in SMAN I Pangalengan. The method which was used in this research is Quasi Experimental with Nonequivalent Control Group Design as the design. The result shows that there are significant difference in scientific literacy between the control class where discussion was applied and the experimental class where field trip was applied, with t = 0.003 and α = 0.05. The result also shows that there is a significant attitude between the control and experimental class, with t = 0.003 and α = 0.05. Those results show that field trip gives significant effect on high school student's scientific literacy and attitude towards science in ecosystem concept.

Abstract

This study using virtual field trip as a facilitator to developing 21st century skill in student. The use of virtual field trip is for developing an innovation of field trip which is visualized as internet based to provide trips on the field without leaving the classroom. This study aimed to facilitate the development of one of 4Cs component, which is communication of the 21st century skills using virtual field in ecosystem. There are 30 students (N=30) of 10th grade in science class at senior high school 20 Bandung became subject. The instrument using eight question for assessed written communication skill, observation rubric for assessed verbal communication skill, and response questionnaire. Through the result, we found thatstudent’s written communication skill has been increasing and included as a middle category of N-gain. The observation showed that students having a good profile on verbal communication skills. This result has been supported by the questionnaire which is all students say agree (57%) and very agree (43%) with the statement that this method help to make learning ecosystem became more interesting and perceivable.
