Abstract

From the first writing of 1612 to the final version in 1836, the Babad Tanah Jawi (BTJ) has always been debated mainly regarding its function as genre, prophecy, historical narrative, genealogical prototypes, and testimonial structures on Javanese history. Nevertheless, it is rare for the study of how Islam Nusantara, specifically described in the Babad Tanah Jawi, is considered to have a problematic double genealogy as the effect of the breaking down of the basket between Batara Guru and Prophet Adam, a discrepancy that reflects Islam Nusantara as the result of a syncretistic forces between (Islam) Demak and (Hindu) Majapahit. This study seeks to illustrate the scholarly contestation of the double gynowogy of the Islamic revival of the archipelago after the fall of Majapahit and its implications for the ambivalent narratives of insurrection in Babad Tanah Jawi, a text that sparked much debate among anthropologists, philologists and archaeologists of the world, Pararaton and Nagarakertagama - many referred by anyone who wants to learn about Islam and Javanese kings.

Abstract

Law is, first and foremoest, a discursive discipline: lawyers and judges live in the doain of reasons and meaning. It interprets statutes and cases, articulate rules to guide behavior, and then argue about their import in particular cases. Meanwhile, philosophy is, of course, the discursive discipline par excellence to which English philosopher John Campbell quite perceptively described as ‘thinking in slow motion’, a meaning which seems contraproducive with lawyering as often called as ‘thinking in fast motion’. This article argues that philosophy of law has important role on implementation of law in Indonesia. Given the fact that both (law and philosophy) are, as discursive disciplines, concerned with rational and logical thought, the philosophy inquiry into law simply brings to light and makes explicit what is often implicit and unargued.

Important lines of issues on which this study is based to reveal the religious phenomena of Kirab Pusaka. For this purpose, this study will examine how Kirab Pusaka could be the sacred, and how the Solo Palace is spiritually regarded as the center of the sacred. The second is about construction of Kirab Pusaka as the sacred especially for Solo people. It is important to not only study this event by taking a distance between the researcher and the object of the research, but also to directly experience it as the involded person. The researcher will have important role to manifest his experiences during interview with some people and observation in the field. Keywords: Kirab Pusaka, Mysterium Reality, and The Sacred.
