Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of addition of different activated carbon on growth of catfish, feeding efficiency, and feeding conversion ratio and survival rate. This research was carried out in the Aquaculture Technology laboratory, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science. The media test was an aquarium with the size of 60 x 40 x 40 cm placed in laboratory. The experimental design was a completely randomized design with 5 treatments and 3 repetitions. The charcoal used in this experiment was A: 1%, B: 2%, C: 3%, D: 4%, E: without charcoal. The observed variables were total growth, relative growth, daily growth, feeding efficiency, feed conversion ratio, and survival rate. The results of statistical analysis on growth parameters indicated the same effect on the growth of 4-6 cm catfish juvenile. The highest weight gain was achieved in treatment C (2,62±0,1), which was pellet feeding with a composition of 3% charcoal, as well as relative growth (413,47±36,3), and daily growth (1.3±0,2). The treatment showed significant effect on efficiency. The highest feed conversion ratio was in treatment E (2,06±1,4), which was pellet feeding with 0% charcoal, and the lowest in treatment C (0,76±0,1). This study concluded that addition of charcoal 1%, 2%, 3%, 4% and without charcoal had the same effect in triggering 4-6 cm catfish growth. Keywords: Active carbon, catfish, growth, feeding efficiency, feeding conversion

Abstract

The Higher Education Community Empowerment Program (PPMUPT) activity aimed to disseminate research results on design engineering and construction materials for verticultural cultivation of seaweed; Seed quality from seaweed cultivation centers in North Sulawesi; and Co-cultivation of seaweed and sea tilapia. The implementation partnered with the Nain Princess and Mekar Laut Groups, and was supported by the Nain Village Government. The three partners expressed their willingness and ability to work together in formulating and finding solutions to problems, as well as planning the implementation stages and all of these activities. In addition, partners continue to contribute throughout the activity. Formulation of problems with partners, are: Is there a technology that can minimize disease attacks on seaweed. The solution is in the form of: a. Engineering design and construction material for cultivation containers, b. Verticultural cultivation of engineering methods. The method applied was the classical and individual approach in the form of class lectures, demonstrations, and practices about the innovation of seaweed cultivation technology. The outputs of the PPMUPT activities were productive economic partners that have increased knowledge, skills, quality, quantity, and types of products. Participants were principally satisfied with this PPMUPT activity, and even 92.86% stated that they were very satisfied in participating in PPMUPT activities regarding the use of strings as ris ropes with seaweed verticulture methods.

Abstract

This research was to determine the current condition of the water physical chemical quality parameters at culture areas in Lake Tondano. The study  conducted at Lake Tondano Minahasa Regency, North Sulawesi Province.  Determination of the water physical and chemical qualitis was carried through field observation and laboratorium analysis at the Industrial Research and Standardization in Manado. Measurement and retrieval of physical and chemical parameter of water quality was done at culture site with high density, medium and small especially at Eris Village, Leleko Village and Toulour Village. Water temperature was 26oC - 29oC, brightness of 1.34-2.8 cm, depth of 4.23-11.8 m, acidity of 6.7-7.8 mg/L, dissolved oxygen, 2.75–6.31 mg/L, nitrate 0.00-1.58 mg/L, nitrite 0.00–0.027 mg /L, ammonia 0.00–0.292 mg/L and phosphate 0.02–0.721 mg/L.  The results showed that water quality of Lake Tondano still match the quality standard of water quality for fish cultivation except ammonia. Keywords: water quality, net cages, Lake Tondano

Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of turmeric (Curcuma domestica Val) as an immunostimulant in pomfret (Colosoma macropomum). The test fish were pomfret as much as 150 individuals having an average of 28.78 ± 2.44 g. After acclimatization process, the fish were given turmeric as a treatment with five different doses, each with three replications. The treatments used were A = 0 g, B = 5 g, C = 10 g and D = 15 g turmeric/kg of feed. Duration of feeding was two weeks at a dose of 5%/body weight/day, twice a day at 08.00 am and 16.00 pm. The results obtained showed that the application of turmeric had a significant effect  on the total leukocyte of pomfret(P <0.01). Application of turmeric at 15 g/kg of feed proved to be able to increase the number of leukocytes in pomfret. Keywords: Curcuma domestica Val, leukocyte, immunostimulant, growth

Abstract

The aim of the study was to determine the effect of different compositions of kedondong laut leaf flour in feed formulations on absolute growth, daily growth, relative growth, feed efficiency, food conversion ratio. The test animals used were Nile tilapia with a size of 3-5cm in length and weigh between 1.3 - 2 g.  Fish were stocked in nets measuring 50x50x50 cm3 with a density of 10 fish each.  Fish were obtained from the Tatelu Aquaculture Fisheries Center, Dimembe District, North Minasaha Regency. The study was conducted by an experimental method using a complete randomized design (CRD).  The treatments consisted of A without addition of kedondong laut leaves flour, Treatment B with addition of 10% kedondong laut leaf flour, Treatment C with addition of 20% kedondong laut leaf flour, Treatment D with addition of 30% kedondong laut leaf flour. The results of the experiment showed that treatment B was the best where absolute growth (23%), relative growth (287.3%), daily growth (3.93%), feeding efficiency (95.83 %) and food conversion ratio (1,044). Water quality during the experiment was in a reasonable range where the water temperature during experiment was 26oC, pH 7-8
