Abstract

The aim of this research was to synthesize silver nanoparticle (NPP) by using Passiflora flavicarva (Markisa) fruit extract as detector of heavy metal. The NPP particles produced were determined by their optimum condition on the ratio of the volume of  Passiflora flavicarva passion fruit extract to AgNO3 and the reaction time. The silver nanoparticles produced under optimum conditions will be tested for selectivity against several metals that are often present in the environment, once the selective metal is known then it can be sensitized to the metal using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer to determine the minimal concentrations that can be detected by the silver nanoparticles Formed. The results showed that Passiflora flavicarva passion fruit extracts could be used for the biosynthesis of  NPP particles because they contain vitamin C and flavonoids capable of reducing Ag+ to Ag0 in the form of NPP. The optimal conditions for forming NPP particles are in the 1: 2 ratio with a 2 hour reaction time. From the results of selectivity test of NPP to some heavy metals that often exist in environment, it is known that NPP selective to mercury metal. It was found that selective mercury was followed by a sensitivity test with a UV-Vis spectrophotometer, with sensitive NPP  up to a concentration of 6.7 ppm. From the results of this study it can be concluded that NPP particles formed can be used to detect mercury metal up to a minimum concentration of 6.7 ppm.

Abstract

This research purpose to determine the effectiveness of the liquid smoke of the Hevea braziliensis  fruit shell  against the activity of Escherichia coli bacteria. The preparation and purification of liquid smoke is carried out by 4 stages: pyrolysis , sedimentation, stage 1 and stage  2  distillation. This research was started with total acidity test, phenol level, pH and density with result of measurement 4,725% total acid content, 0,84% phenol content, 2,548 pH and 1,004 in density . An antibacterial test  using disc diffusion method by looking at the diameter of the clear zone. There are six concentrations of liquid smoke of  H.braziliensis  rubber shell used, negative control using aquades and positive control using ciprofloxacin . An  effective concentration was found in inhibiting E.coli is 100% concentration with a clear zone diameter of 11.3 mm. The result of analysis using One Way ANOVA showed F count (4.42)> F table (3,23), then H0 rejected, meaning there is a significant difference of influence of concentration to the diameter of clear zone produced.

Abstract

The problem of environmental polution caused by waste of batik industry lately is increasing, so it needed a method to overcome that problem. The aim of this study was to determine the ability of activated charcoal from coconut fiber palm in adsorbing Reactive Red-120 and Direct Green-26 dyes in waste of batik along with determining the parameters of isotherms adsorption using UV-Vis Spectrophotometer analysis method. Variations of pH, contact time, adsorbent weight and temperature were carried out as variable to obtain optimum conditions of the adsorption process. The optimum of conditions for Reactive Red-120  occured at pH 3 and a contact time of 30 minutes, while Direct Green-26  occurred at pH 4 and a contact time of 40 minutes, with each adsorbent weight 150 mg and the temperature 30 °C. Adsorption isotherms determined by Freundlich and Langmuir models with maximum adsorption capacity (Qmax) were obtained for the Reactive Red-120  was 400 mg/g, while Direct Green-26 is 169 mg/g.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate research about cytotoxicity correlation level of Phaleria macrocarpa (Scheff) Boerl also known as Mahkota dewa leaves methanol extract against  MCF-7 cell in vitroto investigate the relationship between them in the goal to investigate alternative low cost herbal medicine agents to fight breast cancer. Cytotoxicity properties of samples against MCF-7 breast cancer cell lines was performed by using the Microtetrazolium (MTT) assay against MCF-7 cell line. The correlation between concentration of crude and cytotoxic activity was interpreted by statistical analyses. The study showed that P. macrocarpa leaves extracts showed cytoxicity activity against breast cancer MCF-7 cell lines which IC50 concentration showed at 15 µg/mL  Correlation between concentration of extract and cytotoxicity property (absorbance value) were founded in weak relationship (R = 0.372, R2 = 0.138).  It could be effect of many different compounds in the P. macrocarpa  leaves methanol extracts may cause the pharmacological interactions, so lower or higher concentration will be antagonistic effect on absorbance or cell viability. Further study on its mechanism pathway on revealing against breast cancer could be explored. Furthermore, the natural product derived from P. macrocarpa leaves methanol extracts have potential use as alternative drugs against breast cancer.

Abstract

The low learning outcomes of the students is because in the learning process of teacher and student interaction only goes one way. Teachers often use lecture methods so that students tend to only accept what is given. This can make the students motivation and activeness in following the lesson to be low. Therefore, researchers try to vary the cooperative learning model using Chemopoly Game media and Tournament Question Cards. This is quasi experimental research with population class X MIPA in SMAN 2 Kota Bengkulu and sample is class X MIPA C using media Tournament Question Cards and class X MIPA D using Chemopoly Game media. Data analysis used were mean score, normality test, homogeneity test, and t test. The average posttest grade of experiment I is 85,59 While for experiment class II is 79,38. Then t test and obtained tcount> ttable (2.62> 2.38). The results of this study indicate that there is a significant difference between student learning outcomes using Chemopoly Game media and Tournament Question Cards on basic chemical law materials.

Abstract

The aims of this research is to know the activity of liquid smoke Hevea braziliensis  Seed Shell as antibacterial of Staphylacoccus aureus. The synthesis of  liquid smoke on this research through some process such as pyrolysis, sedimentation, filtration, distillation and redistillation. H.braziliensis Seed Shell liquid smoke  obtained phenol levels 0.84% and pH  2.548. Antibacterial activity tested by hollow difusion methode with variations concentration of liquid smoke .at 5%, , 10 , 25 , 50, 75, and 100 % v/v. The effective concentration H.braziliensis  liquid smoke in inhibiting the growth of S. aureus bacteria is 75% v/v with strong antibacterial level that showed by an inhibition zone at 10,6 mm. On this research One Way ANOVA test showing the Fcount   ? F table, which means there is a significant difference between the diameter of the inhibition zone on various concentrations of H.braziliensis seed shell.iquid smoke..

Abstract

The average students chemical learning outcomes are still low, the low learning outcome is influenced by several factors, including students still consider that chemistry as one of the scary, difficult to understand and less interesting lessons. Therefore, the research wants to vary the learning process in the classroom by applying the learning model of Discovery Learning with Group Investigation model. This research was aimed to find out the students’ achievement differences of chemical subject by using Discovery learning and  Group Investigation model. The research is quasi experimental research. The population of this research were class X MIPA in SMAN 9 Bengkulu City, and the sample were X MIPA 2 and MIPA 3. This research using two experimental classes, that is class X MIPA 2 applying Group Investigation model and X MIPA 3 applying Discovery Learning model. Analysis of the data used is mean values, normality test, homogeneity test, and t-test. Post-test mean values for first experiment class is 78,12, but for second experiment class is 81,3. To determine whether the differences of student’s learning outcomes between both of experiment classes or not, we use t-test by using the differences between student’s pretest and posttest values, tcount > ttable (2,17 > 1,67). The result of this research showed that Ha accepted, in other words is a significant differences in learning outcomes of student’s applying Discovery Learning and Group Investigation model.

Abstract

This perpose of this research was to know the isotherm, kinetics and thermodynamics adsorption of synthetic  dye onto activated carcoal from palm oil shell. The synthetic dye were Reactive Red and Direct Blue. The model of isotherm were Langmuir and Freundlich, kinetics adsorption tested were Pseudo orde-1 and Pseudo orde-2, and also thermodynamics were free energy change (?Go), enthalpy change (?Ho), and entropy change (?So). The dominant isotherm adsorption was isotherm Freundlich, kinetic adsorption Pseudo 2 th order  with the value (?So), (?Go) and (?Ho), Reactive Red were 0,0028 Kj/mol.K , -3,93 Kj/mol, and -36,12 Kj/mol respectively. Whereas in direct blue were 0,0034 Kj/mol.K, -1,67 Kj/mol,and -30,16 Kj/mol respectively.

Abstract

This study aimed to compare the learning outcomes of students with using cooperative learning type Team Games Tournament (TGT) with media Call Card and Truth and Dare in SMA Negeri 05 Bengkulu Tengah. This research is quasy experimental with population all grade students in SMA Negeri 05 Bengkulu Tengah and the sample is X3 class as experiment class 1which implement instructional media truth and dare and X1 class  as experiment class 2 which implement instructional media Call Card. Students learning outcomes in this research extend from the difference of pretest and posttest value. In the experimental class 1 average value of students learning outcomes 69,46 while the experimental class 2 at 58,21. Through a series of statistical test done hypothesis testing using t test (0,01) was obtained t =3,13 and t table =2,39. The results of data analysis showed that shere were significant differences in student learning result between the aplication of instructional media Truth and Dare with media Call Card in hydrocarbon compound material in X grade SMA Negeri 05 Bengkulu Tengah. This can be showed t test that has been done on student learning outcomes for cognitife aspect got the result that value t table < t. The obtained t = 3,133 mean while t table = 2,397.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the antioxidant activity of jarak kepyar’s  leaf extracts (Ricinus communis L.) and to determine of the fraction the growth of Erwinia carotovora. Jarak kepyar’s leaf extracted by maceration method using ethanol and fractionated using n-hexane and ethyl acetate. Antioxidant test using DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) with various concentrations of 125 ppm, 100 ppm, 75 ppm, 50 ppm, 25 ppm, 15 ppm and 5 ppm. Antibacterial test conducted on the active fractions as antioxidants using paper disc method and variations in the concentration of 1000 ppm, 500 ppm, 250 ppm, 125 ppm, 62.5 ppm. Phytochemical test results jarak kepyar’s leaf contain secondary metabolites are alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols and terpenoids. The test results demonstrate the antioxidant activity of ethyl acetate fraction is very strong as an antioxidant with IC50 values of 5.4 ppm and a strong ethanol fraction categorized as antioxidants IC50 of 99.8 ppm. Antibacterial test results showed inhibition of the leaf fraction of  jarak kepyar’s (Ricinus communis L.) against Erwinia carotovora categorized weak growth in ethanol fractions with inhibition zone diameter of 4 mm and being in ethyl acetate fraction with a diameter of 5 mm
