Jurnal Dinamika Vokasional Teknik Mesin (JDVTM) is published by the Department of Mechanical Engineering Education, Faculty of Engineering, State University of Yogyakarta. The journal is published twice a year in April and October. Each publication contains articles comprising high quality theoretical and empirical original research papers, review papers, and literature reviews. The scope of study of this journal includes mechanical engineering education, technology and vocational education, learning and curriculum development, learning method development, and learning media. All of the fields study, particularly in mechanical engineering vocational and education. The articles submitted should be attended to the particular topics above.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the differences in students’ activity and academic achievement on the implementation of character-based Competence Based Training (CBT) learning model. The research used two groups Quasi Experimental Design. Samples were taken by cluster sampling, in which one class of bachelor degree students was used as control group and one class of diploma degree students as experimental group. Data were collected using observation technique with instruments of attitude, behavior and products. Data were analyzed using quantitative descriptive analysis with t-test. Result shows that there are differences in students learning activities and academic achievement on Milling Machining practice using character-based CBT, in which the learning activity and achievement of the experimental class are better than the control class.Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana perbedaan aktivitas dan prestasi belajar mahasiswa antara kelas yang menerapkan model pembelajaran CBT berbasis karakter dengan kelas yang tidak menerapkan. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah desain Quasi Experimental Design dua kelompok. Sampel penelitian diambil secara Cluster Sampling, yaitu untuk program S1 diambil 1 kelas sebagai kelas kontrol dan program D3 diambil 1 kelas sebagai kelas eksperimen. Pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik observasi dengan instrumen sikap, perilaku dan produk. Analisis data menggunakan teknik analisis deskriptif kuantitatif dengan t-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukan terdapat perbedaan aktivitas belajar mahasiswa dalam pembelajaran praktik Pemesinan Frais melalui penerapan model pembelajaran CBT berbasis karakter, dimana aktivitas belajar mahasiswa pada kelas eksperimen lebih baik dari kelas kontrol. Terdapat perbedaan prestasi belajar mahasiswa dalam pembelajaran praktik Pemesinan Frais melalui penerapan model pembelajaran CBT berbasis karakter, dimana prestasi belajar pada kelas eksperimen lebih baik dari kelas kontrol.

Abstract

This research was aimed at developing economizer on aluminum crucible furnace to improve the furnace’s performance. The research implements a Research and Development method. The economizer effects was determined from the performance test. The furnace were being tested with and without economizer at the same process condition. The developed furnace exhaust have the same diameter with the gas burner inlet. The exhaust was extended and curved to serve as an economizer. Aluminum of 11.78 kg can be melted with the economizer effects in 60 minutes, and only required 2.6 kg of LPG, whereas without economizer it required 3.1 kg LPG in 80 minutes for the same amounts of Aluminum. Penelitian ini bertujuan menambahkan economizer pada tungku pelebur aluminium untuk memperbaiki performa tungku. Metode Research and Development diterapkan untuk pengembangan tungku. Efek penggunaan economizer ditentukan dari uji kinerja. Tungku diuji coba tanpa dan dengan economizer pada kondisi proses yang sama. Saluran buang pada tungku berdiameter sama dengan saluran masuk. Saluran dibuat memanjang dan berbelok berfungsi sebagai economizer. Aluminium 11,78 kg dapat dicairkan memakai economizer dalam 60 menit dan membutuhkan 2,6 kg gas LPG, sedang tanpa economizer membutuhkan 3,1 kg gas LPG dan waktu 80 menit.

Abstract

The aerofoils are used to get the lifting force on the design of plane’s wings. The lifting force is caused by difference air velocity on upper and lower aerofoil which the magnitude depend on attack angle of aerofoil and air velocity exist surrounding. This experiment aims to show the force vector (pressure distribute) on the aerofoil. The aerofoil is attached by air with konstant velocity. The research procedure is done by change the attack angle of aerofoil on five formation. The surface of aerofoil is connected with pressure gage which disperse at 11 point of measurement. The result shows that magnitude of force vector is depended on attack angle of aerofoil. Increasing angle of aerofoil until boundary angle will be followed by increasing air velocity on the point of measurement and finally increase force vector. Upper boundary angle will be followed by decreasing air velocity and finally decrease force vector.Aerofoil digunakan untuk mendapatkan gaya angkat pada desain sayap pesawat. Gaya angkat disebabkan oleh perbedaan kecepatan udara pada aerofoil atas dan bawah yang besarnya tergantung pada sudut serang aerofoil dan kecepatan udara yang ada disekitarnya. Eksperimen ini bertujuan untuk menampilkan vektor gaya (distribusi tekanan) pada aerofoil. Aerofoil dilekatkan pada udara dengan kecepatan konstan. Prosedur penelitian dilakukan dengan cara mengubah sudut serang aerofoil pada lima formasi. Permukaan aerofoil dihubungkan dengan alat ukur tekanan yang tersebar pada 11 titik pengukuran. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa besarnya vektor gaya bergantung pada sudut serang aerofoil. Sudut aerofoil yang meningkat hingga sudut batas akan diikuti dengan peningkatan kecepatan udara pada titik pengukuran dan akhirnya meningkatkan vektor gaya. Sudut batas atas akan diikuti oleh penurunan kecepatan udara pada titik pengukuran dan akhirnya menurunkan vektor gaya.

Abstract

This study aims to: (1) develop an electronic module based on 3D Pageflip Professional for Engineering Drawings course, (2) assess the quality of the electronic modules. The model the research is research and development (R&D). The electronic module was validated by learning media experts and learning material experts. The research subject was the 32 students of mechanical engineering education study program of FKIP UNSRI. The study concludes that: (1) the electronic module that is based on 3D Pageflip Professional for Engineering Drawing Course is appropriate to use for learning process; (2) the quality of the product is very good. The assessment from the experts resulted in a score of 85 for the display aspect (very good), 51 for the learning process aspect (good), and 54 for the learning material aspect. Whereas, from the students, it is 956 (very good) for the display aspect, 684 for the learning process aspect, and 847 for the content aspect (very good)Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) menghasilkan Modul Elektronik Berbasis 3D Pageflip Professional pada mata kuliah Gambar Teknik di Program Studi Pendidikan Teknik Mesin, (2) mengetahui kualitas Modul Elektronik Berbasis 3D Pageflip Professional pada mata kuliah Gambar Teknik di Program Studi Pendidikan Teknik Mesin FKIP Unsri. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian dan pengembangan (R&D). Validasi modul elektronik ini dilakukan oleh ahli media dan ahli materi. Subjek uji coba penelitian ini adalah 32 mahasiswa program studi pendidikan teknik mesin FKIP UNSRI. Hasil penelitian ini adalah: (1) produk modul Elektronik Berbasis 3D Pageflip Professional pada mata kuliah Gambar Teknik layak untuk digunakan; (2) Kualitas produk modul elektronik ini sangat baik, hasil penilaian ahli media dan ahli materi ditinjau dari aspek tampilan 85 (sangat baik), aspek pembelajaran 51 (baik), dan aspek materi 54 (baik). Sedangkan hasil penialaian peserta didik uji coba lapangan pada aspek tampilan sebesar 956 (sangat baik), pada aspek pembelajaran sebesar 684 (sangat baik),  dan pada aspek isi sebesar 847 (sangat baik).

Abstract

This research is intended to produce a suitable video-based learning media on the making of helical gear in Milling Theory. This is a Research and Development type research incorporating six steps, namely: stating the potentials and problems, collecting data, designing the product, validation of the product design, revision of the design and product trials. Feasibility of the learning media was assesed by content-expert, media expert, teachers and students, by means of questionnaires. The quantitative research data were analized using quantitative-descriptive analysis technique. The product of this research is a learning media in the form of mp4 videos about Milling Machining practice. The media includes introductory music, videos, naration and animation. The feasibility level of the video-based learning media were assessed and presented in the form of percentages and classifications. The content-expert gave a feasibility level of 96.50% with classification of “very good”, the media-expert gave 80.63% with classification of “very good”, the teacher gave 76.25% with classification “very good” and the students’ responses reached 80.52% with classification of “strongly agree” to the use of the video-based learning media. It can be concluded that the video-based learning media of Milling Machining Theory is feasible to use in the teaching and learning process.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan produk berupa media pembelajaran berbasis video pembuatan roda gigi heliks pada Teori Pemesinan Frais yang layak digunakan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pengembangan dengan enam tahap, yaitu: potensi dan masalah, pengumpulan data, desain produk, validasi desain, revisi desain dan uji coba produk. Kelayakan media pembelajaran dinilai menggunakan angket oleh ahli materi, ahli media, guru pengampu dan siswa. Data penelitian berupa data kuantitatif yang dianalisis menggunakan teknik analisis deskriptif kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian berupa produk media pembelajaran Teknik Pemesinan Frais berbasis video berbentuk file mp4 yang dilengkapi dengan musik pengantar, video, narator dan animasi. Kelayakan media pembelajaran berbasis video dari ahli materi diperoleh persentase sebesar 96.50% dengan klasifikasi sangat baik, dari ahli media diperoleh persentase sebesar 80.63% dengan klasifikasi sangat baik, dari guru pengampu diperoleh persentase sebesar 76.25% dengan klasifikasi sangat baik dan berdasarkan respon penilaian siswa diperoleh persentase sebesar 80.52% dengan klasifikasi sangat setuju menggunakan media pembelajaran ini. Dengan demikian media pembelajaran berbasis video pada Teori Pemesinan Frais layak digunakan untuk proses pembelajaran.

Abstract

This research is aimed to study the characteristics of cast grinding balls produced by CV Baja Ellips Ceper, Klaten. The samples were taken from three tapping. One group was quenched in water while the other was not. The studied characteristics comprised of chemical composition, microstructure, hardness and wear. The result shows that the grinding balls have the chemical composition of medium-strength cast iron. However, the microstructure shows cementite and pearlite that indicates the structure of a white cast iron. The hardness of quenched and unquenched grinding balls are 60 HRC and 57 HRC, respectively. The hardness is consistent from the edges to the middle of the grinding balls. The specific wear of quenched grinding balls and unquenched grinding balls is 3.32963 x 10-06 mm2/kg and 5.032 x 10-06 mm2/kg, respectivelyPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui karakteristik grinding balls produksi CV Baja Ellips Ceper Klaten yang dibuat dengan menggunakan proses pengecoran. Sampel grinding balls diambil dari tiga kali tapping yang berbeda. Satu kelompok dicelup dingin dalam air dan yang tidak dicelup dingin. Karakterisasi yang dilakukan meliputi komposisi kimia, struktur mikro, kekerasan dan keausan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa komposisi kimia dari bola penggiling termasuk dalam kelas besi tuang kekuatan sedang. Struktur mikro yang tampak adalah sementit dan perlit yang menunjukkan struktur besi tuang putih. Kekerasan grinding balls yang dicelup dingin adalah 60 HRC sedangkan yang tanpa dicelup dingin sebesar 57 HRC. Kekerasan grinding balls konsisten dari bagian tepi sampai bagian tengah. Keausan spesifik grinding balls yang dicelup dingin dan tanpa dicelup dingin berturut-turut 3,32963 x 10-06 mm2/kg dan 5,032 x 10-06 mm2/kg

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine an applicable framework of CTL learning approaches and improving the competence of students using module as media. This research is a class action research comprising of three cycles. Subjects of this study were students of class XI machining TP 1 at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Bantul, with 26 students as respondents. The result of this study is a learning framework for CAD with CTL approach. The sequence of this framework are: directing the use of the module and the materials selection, the formation of discussion groups based on students’ computer skills, providing motivation and samples of CAD drawings used in the industry, providing drawing jobs that challenge students knowledge, doing the drawing exercise within the group using the module as a knowledge source, groups discussion to find solutions to the problems, debriefing and reflection, and finally implementing an authentic assessment. Students’ competence has increased from the average value of 62.16 and 0% passed the test in the first cycle, to 82.69 and 84.62% passed in the second cycle, and to 80.68 with 100% passed in the last cycle.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kerangka pendekatan pembelajaran CTL yang dapat diterapkan dan peningkatan kompetensi siswa dengan media modul. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas yang terdiri dari tiga siklus. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah siswa pemesinan kelas XI TP 1 SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Bantul dengan jumlah responden sebanyak 26 siswa. Hasil penelitian menghasilkan kerangka pembelajaran CAD dengan pendekatan CTL dengan urutan pertama pengarahan penggunaan modul dan penentuan materi, pembentukan kelompok diskusi sesuai dengan keahlian siswa, memberikan motivasi dan contoh pekerjaan CAD di industri, pemberian soal yang menantang pengetahuan siswa, mengerjakan latihan bersama kelompok dengan sumber pengetahuan dari modul, diskusi kelompok untuk menemukan solusi masalah, tanya jawab dan refleksi, dan terakhir melaksanakan penilaian autentik. Kompetensi siswa mengalami peningkatan rata-rata nilai dari siklus pertama 62.16 kelulusan 0% ke siklus dua menjadi 82.69 kelulusan 84.62% kemudian siklus terakhir menjadi 80.68 kelulusan 100%.

Abstract

This research aims to define a construct of CTL-based learning model on CAD subject. The learning model is intended for vocational high school students to improve their CAD competence. The research method being used was Research and Development methods implementing Dick and Carrie’s approach. The research was carried out in Bantul and Kulonprogo district. The subject was SMK students underwent CAD subject learning. The result of the large-scale test shows that the CAD learning model is appropriate to be implemented in the CAD teaching and learning. The modul gained a strong positive response from the students in the functional and benefit aspects, with an average score of 24.42. The modul also gained a strong positive response from the attractiveness aspect with an average score of 37.73. Students also found that it is very appropriate in the learning material aspect, shown by an average score of 30.70. The CAD learning methods can be implemented by following the steps of defining Basic Competencies, subject materials and objects, motivating the students by assosiating the learning material with environmental context, determining heterogeneous group and administering task, group discussion, individual task, assessment, reflection and feedbacks. The CAD learning implementing the CTL-based modul evidently improves the students’ achievement by 19%, from 71.18 to 84.64. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menemukan konstruksi model pembelajaran berbasis CTL pada mata diklat CAD. Metode penelitian yang diterapkan adalah penelitian pengembangan dengan pendekatan Dick & Carie. Penelitian dilakukan di Bantul dan Wates, Kulon Progo. Subyek penelitian adalah siswa SMK yang menempuh mata diklat CAD. Hasil uji coba pada skala besar menunjukkan bahwa modul CAD layak untuk diterapkan dalam uji coba pembelajaran CAD. Modul mendapatkan kategori respons sangat layak dari siswa untuk: (a) aspek fungsi dan manfaat dengan skor rerata 24,42 , (b) aspek kemenarikan dengan skor rerata 37,73 , (c) aspek materi pembelajaran dengan skor rerata 30,70. Metode pembelajaran CAD ditempuh dengan urutan sebagai berikut: (1) menentukan KD, (2) menentukan materi, (3) menentukan benda/obyek, (4) memotivasi dengan mengaitkan materi ajar dengan konteks lingkungan, (5) penentuan kelompok heterogen, pemberian tugas, (6) diskusi kelompok, (7) tugas mandiri, (8) penilaian, (9) refleksi hasil dan umpan balik. Pembelajaran CAD menggunakan modul berbasis CTL dapat meningkatkan prestasi sebesar 19%, atau dari 71.18, menjadi 84.64.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics  and effectiveness of off-the-job training for  repairing damaged boom excavator  with GMAW welding processes in XXI Welder group at PT. Thiess. The research methods being used were Research and Development. Data were collected using observation, interview, test and questionnaire. The object of this study is class group, which is the apprentice group XXI Welder at PT. Thiess with 10 trainees as respondents. Data were analyzed  using comparative statistics techniques with a non-parametric test. Data were compared based on the results obtained from the research instruments. The result shows the characteristics of learning off-the-job training, which are:  learning is done based on case studies found in the workplace; the training participants is limited; the learning methods is group teaching, in which the learners are active with simulation methods. The effectiveness of learning off-the-job training were analyzed using non-parametric Wilcoxon comparative tests. From the pre-test and post-test data it was obtained the p-value of 0.007, so that 0.007<0.05 therefore reject H0. It shows that there are  differences in the pre-test and post-test result of the learners.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui karakteristik dan efektivitas pembelajaran off job training untuk perbaikan hasil lasan pada boom excavator yang mengalami kerusakan dengan proses pengelasan GMAW pada peserta apprentice program group XXI Welder di PT Thiess. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode research and development. Pengumpulan data menggunakan metode observasi, wawancara, tes dan angket. Objek penelitian ini adalah peserta didik Apprentice Program bidang Welder group XXI PT Thiess dengan jumlah responden 10 orang. Teknik analisis data berupa statistik komparatif menggunakan uji non-parametrik, data yang ada dibandingkan berdasarkan hasil yang diperoleh dari instrumen penelitian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa karakteristik pembelajaran off job training yaitu peserta terbatas dengan pembelajaran berupa group teaching dimana pesera didik bersifat aktif dengan metode simulasi. Efektifitas pembelajaran berdasarkan uji non-parametrik Wilcoxon menunjukkan bahwa nilai untuk data pre-test & post-test peserta didik p-value sebesar 0.007 sehingga 0,007 < 0,05 tolak H0 yang menyatakan bahwa ada perbedaan nilai pre-test dan post-test peserta didik pada pengembangan pembelajaran off job training perbaikan hasil lasan pada boom excavator.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to: (1) develop an assessment for learning (AFL), and (2) verify the effectiveness of the AFL through lesson study approach on machining practice in SMK. The research was a research and development with Borg & Gall’s modified R&D model which comprised of 3 phase: development, small scale test, and large scale test. The research subjects were the students and teachers of machining program at SMK 2 Depok Sleman. Data were collected through interviews, documentation, questionnaire, notes, observation sheet, assessment sheet, and students’ response. The descriptive analysis technique was used to analyze the data using rating methods. Results of the research show: (1) an assessment for learning through lesson study approach was successfully developed which consists of the assessment process and the product. Results of the assessment informs about students’ processes in practice learning, product quality and overall practice results to determine students’ achievement and also serves as formative feedback; (2) the effectiveness of the assessment, which was reviewed for eligibility, was categorized as "very good", whereas from the reliability it was in "good" category. The effectiveness was rated "very good" for its reliability. The implementation was in “good” category with 76.58% implementation and students’ response were good. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) pengembangan perangkat assessment for learning, (2) menguji keefektifan perangkat assessmen for learning melalui pendekatan lesson study pada pembelajaran praktik pemesinan. Penelitian pengembangan ini menggunakan modifikasi model Borg & Gall yang terbagi menjadi 3 tahap yaitu: pengembangan, tahap ujicoba terbatas, dan tahap ujicoba diperluas. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa dan guru teknik pemesinan SMK Negeri 2 Depok Sleman. Pengumpulan data menggunakan wawancara, dokumentasi, angket kuesioner, catatan lapangan, lembar pengamatan, lembar penilaian produk serta respon siswa. Teknik analisis data menggunakan analisis deskriptif dengan metode rating. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) perangkat penilaian assessment for learning melalui pendekatan lesson study berhasil dikembangkan berupa perangkat penilaian proses dan produk. Informasi hasil penilaian yaitu informasi akurat proses kerja siswa, kualitas produk serta hasil keseluruhan penilaian praktik untuk mengetahui capaian belajar siswa dan sebagai formatif feedback; (2) efektifitas perangkat ditinjau dari keberfungsian mempunyai hasil penilaian “sangat baik” dan untuk reliabilitas “baik”. Keefektifan perangkat masuk kategori “sangat baik” ditinjau dari hasil penilaian dan reliabilitasnya. Tingkat keterlaksanakan masuk kategori “baik” dengan persentase keterlaksanaan 76,58% dengan respon baik dari siswa.
