Abstract

Each prospective teacher learning at Indonesian Language Education Study Program, Language Education Department, Jenderal Soedirman University should sophisticatedly master and acquire public speaking skills and expertise in various situations. A prospective teacher should also have a strong character equipped with the spirit of an educator. By having public speaking practices, it is expected that the prospective teachers (students) may achieve the intended goals. Speaking practices mean sharpening our mind and language. When someone is able to speak in front of public very well, then s/he may be considered to have a good personality. Debate Plus is a method used by the lecturers of Indonesian Language Education Study Program in speaking classes to achieve the effective learning objectives.

Abstract

This research is titled " Error Analysis of Writing Chinese Letter by Learners in Purwokerto". the purpose of the research is to improve the students competence in mastering Mandarin properly. This study focuses on the errors of Chinese Hanzi letters written by the students in learning Mandarin. especially on the order of writing mandarin strokes. The purpose of the study is to show the errors of Chinese letters by students in Purwokerto and explain the factors that cause the errors of writing letters mandarin. Data were collected using interview technique, observation, collecting of student task result. Data from the students were analyzed using Error Analysis from Corder (1976). then compared with mandarin standard based on bihuan bishuan which was made by Suparto (2003) and Song (2001).

Abstract

Teens creativity in producing graffiti discourse is a manifestation of their ability to express themselves. Various discourses of graffiti show patterns that can be understood as well as a form of adolescent ability to absorb information from the environment. Assessment of the topic of graffiti discourse generated by adolescents will lead to an understanding of the language of adolescence. This study focuses on trying to figure out the development of topics as a teenager creates a graffiti and knows the understanding of concepts and graffiti media. Some theories of discourse development are used to explore more about topic relation and information built into discourse. The results of this study are descriptions of the supporting components of conformity between the topic information and the development of graffiti discourse. CTL approach can be used as one of the solutions to improve students graffiti writing skill. In addition to improving skills, Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach also plays an active role for students to remember experiences in their lives and more able to process words to be written in the form of graffiti discourse.

Abstract

This research study inverstigated the effects of using cooperative learning to improve students’ motivation in first semester English class of law faculty in Wijaya Kusuma University Purwokerto. Motivation becomes some processes that controls and maintains certain behaviors. Everyone experiences lack of motivation from time to time. Some students sometimes get a sense that they are fear of failure. Furthermore, students need to have mastery experiences increase confidence and willingness to try interesting and more challenging tasks to build their motivation. Concerning the problems of teaching reading in the class, the study used cooperative learning method to find out whether cooperative learning technique could enhance students’ motivation in English class. Cooperative learning type in this class is used as group discussions. The design employed in this research was Classroom Action Research. The study was conducted at the first semester students in law faculty of Wijaya Kusuma University Purwokerto. The class consisted of 24 students. Observation, questionnaire, evaluation sheet and students’ reading test were implemented as instruments to collect the data. To measure students’ motivation there were five observation aspects. These five observation aspects measured when teaching learning activities in classroom. The teacher was observed and taking notes for each observation aspect. They were asking questions, answering question, active in discussion and share the information, comprehending text easily and enthusiastic in doing assignments. The five observation aspects also created a lot of influence and improvement based on the observation since first meeting till 8 meeting. The findings of the study can be concluded that cooperative learning method showed and improved students’ motivation.

Abstract

Collocation is the combination of two or more verbs precisely, for example the word interested has to be combined with the word into form interested in. Interested in is the precise or appropriate combination. But, some students sometimes combine the word interested with the word with.  Whereas, interested with is not appropriate. This research discusses the inappropriateness of the diction of making lexcical collocation (type Verb + noun and type adjective + noun) in International Business students of Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Jenderal Soedirman. This research uses qualitative descriptive method. The data were collected by using a collocation test in sentences and short paragraph. Analysis was conducted by counting the inapropriateness of collocation tested to the respondents. The result showed that frequency of inappropriateness of using lexical collocation type adjective + noun were higher than tye verb + noun. Interlingual was the factor influeced of using two types of  lexical collocation. The mother tongue’s influnce determined  their diction of making apprpriate lexical collocation.

Abstract

The rural condition as the background with the second grade society that became the main power of Ahmad Tohari’s story has encourage the scientist and literary community place this story as the main topic. The study about Di Kaki Bukit Cibalak needs to be done in order to observe Ahmad Tohari potention as a writer. The problem that shown could be explain as this question, how about the situation and the social change process that found in Di Kaki Bukit Cibalak, and how about the people’s react against that social change condition

Abstract

This study discussed about an evaluation of textbook analysis entitled “Cambridge English Idiom in Used Advanced” written by written by Felicity O’Dell and Michael McCarthy. In this study, the textbook was analyzed using rubric of textbook evaluation in term of layout and design, activities, language type, materials, subject and content. From the discussion, it can be concluded that the book is suitable for advanced learner in term of the composition, given example, exercises and context.

Abstract

This article describes the effort to develop ornamental motifs that are found in rumah gadang, Minangkabau traditional house, become decorative motif for cloth. Decorative motifs of cloth is not only in the form of batik motifs, but also the possibility for motif embroidered, songket, and fashion design. There are 76 motives found which are grouped based on motives meaning. meanwhile, these motives were selected  based on the design possibility for batik, songket, and fashion motif. This work is one of revitalization effort of traditional works.. In addition, this effort is expected to become one of the alternative of entrepreneurship development within the framework of local content-based creative industries.
