Abstract

Papaya leaves could be used as an alternative traditional medicine by Indonesian people, such as  burn wound healing. This research  was aimed to find out  the activity of  fraction polar, semi-polar and  non-polar papaya leaves (Carica papaya L.) and which  fraction  has better activity as healing of burn wound  on rats. About 25 male rats are divided into five groups: positive control (Bioplacenton®), negative control (Gel bases) and three variations of the fraction (polar, semi-polar and non-polar) which was  topically administered 2 times a day. A metal heat was pasted on the back skin of rats for 30 seconds to induce burn wound. Burn wound diameter was observed on days 3rd, 6th, 9th, 12th  and 15th  with 2 parameters, burn wound  diameter reduction and day when the wound was shutted faster. The results showed that papaya leaf polar fraction with 2.16% dose has an activity as a burn wound healing  which was  begin on day 6th, while the fraction of non-polar and semi-polar fraction of papaya leaf with  0.02% dose has an activity as a burn wound healing which was begin on day 9th and 12th. Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder that leading the blood sugar levels become higher than normal. In Indonesia, one of the plants that traditionally used to cure hyperglycemic is raru plant (Vatica pauciflora). The objectives of this research was to investigate ?-glucosidase inhibitory activity from stem bark, root, and leaf of raru plant. Extraction of stem bark, root, and leaf was conducted with reflux at 70 °C by using water as a solvent. In vitro anti-diabetic activity was tested using the method of ?-glucosidase inhibition. The results show that water extracts of raru?s stem bark, root, and leaf have ?-glucosidase inhibitory activity. The stem bark water extract has the highest activity than leaf and root with IC50 values were 13.53, 16.96, and 41.91 ppm respectively. All extracts is categorized as active in inhibiting the activity of ?-glucosidase enzyme by having IC50?100 ppm. The results obtain in this research clearly indicate a promising potential as anti-diabetic properties of raru plant.

Abstract

ABSTRACTTheophylline is a drug used in the management of asthma. It has relatively short half-life and narrow therapeutic index with 5-20 ?g/mL serum concentration. Thus, Floating tablet formulations that can increase the bioavailability of the drug. The aims of this study were to determine the effect of the excipient (HPMC K4M CR and NaHCO3) to the quality of tablets and determine the optimum formula of theophylline floating tablet. A 22 randomized factorial design was used in development of theophylline floating tablet with HPMC K4M CR (A) and NaHCO3 (B) as independent variables. The flowability of mass tablet, floating character, and dissolution profile were chosen as dependent variables. The results showed that NaHCO3 was the most important factor on increasing flowability of mass tablet. HPMC K4M CR was the dominant factor in lowering the Flag time, improving integrity of the tablet, and decreasing the release of drug. The composition of HPMC K4M CR 40.00 mg and NaHCO3 35.39 mg produced the optimum formula of theophylline floating tablet with desirability value of 0.978.

Abstract

Tuna?s collagen may be applied to burns at 2%. To provide convenience in use it was made in drug form gel. HPMC is used as a gelling agent because it can form a gel that is clear and netral and has a viscosity that is stable in a long periode. This study aims to determine the effect of  increase in the concentration of HPMC as a gelling agent in the gel formula. at a concentration of 3%, 4%, 5%, 6%, 7%. The resulting gel is then evaluated by the organoleptic test, homogeneity test, pH test, viscosity test, centrifugation test, and freeze thaw test. Result of statistical analysis ANOVA one way to test the viscosity of the significant difference in each formula. Based on the result of this study concluded that the increased concentration of HPMC as a gelling agent can increase the viscosity of bone collagen gel tuna.
