Abstract

This investigation based on analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation (ADDIE) method intended to develop an innovative chemistry laboratory workbook of Chemistry Element integrated with project-based learning and characters. Two chemistry lecturers and teachers respectively selected to validate three local chemistry laboratory workbook and chemistry laboratory workbook developed. Questionnaires distributed to the lecturer and teacher samples and found that content, language, presentation, and feasibility of graphics scores were 3.31, 3.37, 3.22, 3.15 and 3.15 respectively and the average score was 3.26 which means that the chem. Lab workbook developed is very valid. In addition, student samples consisted of 2 classes of grade XII of science students which classified into experimental group  and Controled group. The developed chemistry laboratory workbook and the conventional workbook were tried out to group Experiment and group Controlled respectively. The average scores of student outcomes in group Experiment was higher than group Controled or 87.5%>73.8%. Then the average psychomotor scores of group  Experiment was larger than group controled or 84.64>78.42. In addition, the affective scores of group Experiment was larger than group Controled or 82.78>76.38. The hypothesis tested with one way ANOVA at the significant level of α = 0.05, and found that tCalc > tTable or 4.536 > 1.697 It is concluded that the Innovative chemistry laboratory workbook is highly very good.Keywords: Chemistry laboratory workbook; chemistry element; project-based learning

Abstract

Abstract. This study shows the effect of the method of problem solving on cognitive abilities and critical thinking skills in making proposals of educational research articles. This study used an experimental method, which was implemented in January 2015 until July 2015. The sample consisted of one class of a study that students of Chemical Education FKIP UISU TA. 2014/2015. The results were obtained using two test method is to test the cognitive domain that is a multiple choice test and critical thinking skills in the form of making a research proposal. From the results of the analysis, there is the influence of problem solving methods to the learning outcomes of students' critical thinking and student learning outcomes multiple-choice test on the results of student learning materials Research Methods. No influence student results test multiple-choice to the learning outcomes of students' critical thinking on the results of student learning course material research method there is no interaction between the two methode tests with the use of methods of problem solving, but no effect of the use of methods of problem solving on critical thinking ability of students in results students learn the material Research Methods. Abstract

Abstract: Arsenic is one of 10 chemicals which is harmful to human health, according to WHO. Arsenic that harmful to human health is generally in the form of inorganic compounds with oxidation number of 3 (As(III)). One of the best known method to remediate As(III) is an oxidation method. Titanium dioxide (TiO2) can be used as a photocatalyst to oxidize As(III). The photocatalytic activity of TiO2 is highly dependent on the size and composition of the crystal phase. Smaller size of TiO2 crystal can be obtained by using hydrothermal method. This study aimed to compare the synthesized TiO2 with P25 Degussa to As(III) reduction. Materials used are TiCl4 as a precursor and H2SO4 and t-butanol as solvents. The crystal structure of synthesized TiO2 is a mixture of anatase and rutile with a greater composition of anatase than rutile. The TiO2 crystal size is calculated using scherrer equation and showed that the crystal size is less than 60 nm. The ability of synthesized TiO2 using H2SO4 2.0 M in the reduction of As(III) concentration is 72% exceeded the capability of P25 Degussa is 35%. Abstract

This study aimed to determine differences of students’ learning outcomes and science process skill which taught by using the guided inquiry model and direct instruction where both models were integrated with practicum on the topic of colligative nature of electrolyte solutions. The population in this study were all students of class XII MIA Binjai SMA 5 consisting of 6 classes. The sample was determined by purposive sampling technique, which taking 2 classes: XII MIA-1 (as the experimental class-I) applied Guided Inquiry learning model and XII MIA-2 (as the experimental class-II) applied Direct Instruction where both were practicum integrated. This study was conducted using the Quasi Experimental design with non-equivalent group pretest-posttest design. Data collection was done for pre-test and post-test by using twenty items of multiple choices instruments which were valid and reliable for learning outcomes, meanwhile six items valid essay test for science process skill. The results showed that there were differences in the average value of learning outcomes and science process skill with the values of each t-statistics > t-table namely 7.082 > 2.0345 and 8.76 > 2.0345, while the difference in the average value of activities and attitudes of student learning during the learning process in the experimental classes I and II were 90.21 (very good) and 79.87 (good) and 88.54 (very good) and 77.43 (good). Based on the results of the questionnaire analysis, students agreed that Guided Inquiry model able to facilitate them in understanding the topic of colligative nature of electrolyte solutions because they could design their own experiments in practical activities.Keywords:Direct instruction; guided inquiry; student’s learning outcome; science process skills

Abstract

Binara (Artemisia vulgaris L.) merupakan salah satu jenis tumbuhan yang dimanfaatkan sebagai obat dan banyak terdapat di Kabanjahe, Kabupaten Karo, Sumatera Utara. Masyarakat Karo secara turun temurun menggunakan tanaman ini sebagai obat diare.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui daya hambat antibakteri dan aktivitas antioksidan dari ekstrak daun binara hasil blanching yang menggunakan pelarut air dalam proses ekstraksi secara refluks. Uji aktivitas antibakteri dilakukan terhadap bakteri Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 (gram negatif) menggunakan metode difusi. Ekstrak air daun binara yang diuji adalah konsentrasi 0%; 2,5%; 5%. Aktivitas antibakteri diukur dari luas diameter zona bening disekitar sumur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ekstrak air daun binara memiliki aktivitas antibakteri berturut-turut pada konsentrasi 0%; 2,5%; dan 5% adalah 0 mm; 18 mm; dan 25,2 mm. Sebagai kontrol positif digunakan kloramfenikol dan diperoleh daya hambat antibakterinya sebesar 28 mm. Uji antioksidan dilakukan dengan metode peredaman DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazil). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan aktivitas antioksidan  ekstrak air daun binara termasuk sedang  (% inhibisi 45,24% dan IC50 114,23 ppm) dan sebagai kontrol positif digunakan vitamin C (% inhibisi 56,27% dan IC50 72,75 ppm).Kata kunci: antibakteri, antioksidan, Artemisia vulgaris L., Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, metode DPPH

Abstract

Abstract. This research aims to develop innovative teaching materials chemistry-based multimedia to improve student learning outcomes in thermochemical material. This study is a Research and Development (R & D). This research was conducted in three schools, namely SMA Negeri 1 Percut Sei Tuan, SMA Taman Siswa, and SMA Al-Hidayah Medan. The sample in this study were selected by purposive sampling taken as many as two classes, experimental and control classes. Classroom teaching experiment were treated using innovative teaching materials chemistry-based multimedia classroom control while using the existing books in school. Prior to this research teaching materials have been assessed by two lecturers and 20 teachers chemical chemistry using a questionnaire BSNP. The results showed that (1) Analysis of the chemical on the material thermochemical book gives an average yield of assessing the feasibility of the contents of 3.61, 3.74 and appropriateness of language for the presentation of the feasibility of 3.59. (2) The components of learning be integrated into innovative chemistry teaching materials have been developed (with video integration laboratory activities carried out by the lab which penelit, integration methods and instructional media, and integration of multimedia learning). (3) Analysis of chemistry teachers and lecturers standard for analysis of the contents of about 4.33 eligibility standards, eligibility standard language of 4.12, and the standard of presentation of the feasibility of 4.20. It shows that the results of chemical analysis for innovative teaching materials based multimedia submitted are valid and do not need direvisi.Sedangkan for assessment of learning that has been developed multimedia gained an average of 3.80 is valid for use and does not need revision. (4) The results of experiments showed an increase chemistry student learning outcomes of each sample, namely: SMA Negeri 1 Percut Sei Tuan has an increased chemical learning outcomes by 69%, the SMA Taman Siswa amounted to 55.41% and the Al-Hidayah Private High School for 51.46%. (5) Analysis of student motivation measurements using innovative teaching materials chemistry-based multimedia teaching materials thermochemical the experimental class is high with an average of 72.94, and there is a positive relationship between learning motivation denagn chemistry student learning outcomes (r2 = 0.969 ) on thermochemical teaching. With the increased motivation of learning outcomes that are known from the results indicated that the results of studying chemistry students who are taught by using innovative teaching materials based multimedia kmia better than the results of studying chemistry students taught without the use of innovative teaching materials chemistry-based multimedia. Abstract

This study aimed to determine the difference of student’s activities and learning outcome with PBL using macromedia flash and handout. The sample were selected using purposive sampling into experimental group I and experimental group II with 60 students. The experimental group I used the PBL using macromedia flash, while the experimental group II used the PBL using handout. The results indicated that the mean scores of student’s activities and learning outcome in the experimental group II were significantly higher than those in the experimental group I. Thus, there was a difference in student’s activities and learning outcome.  The correlation test between student’s activities and learning outcome presented that the experimental group I rcount>rtable (0.625>0.361) and the experimental group II rcount>rtable (0.683>0.361), it concluded that there was a positive correlation between student’s activities and learning outcome with PBL using macromedia flash and handout.Keywords:activities; difference; handout; macromedia flash; learning outcome; PBL

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the differences in chemistry learning results by Numbered Heads Together (NHT) type of cooperative model. This model used student worksheet media compared to question card media on salt hydrolysis. The results shown that there were differences in the learning outcomes in SMA N 1 Perbaungan 2016/2017. The analysis data shown for the gain value in the first experiment class reached 73.19% and  the second experiment class 67.57%. The data processing obtained the average value of pre-test and post-test in the first experiment class (33.78) and (82.42) respectively. In the second experiment class cheieved the average value of pretest (33.48) and posttest (78.48). The difference in increasing learning outcomes achieved 5.62%.Keywords:learning outcomes; learning media; numbered heads together; salt hydrolysis

Abstract

Abstract Mangosteen peel extract is now widely used as an alternative treatment by society as an anti-oxidant without knowing the side effects. Consumption Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is used as a flavor enhancer in the food can cause various side effects due to formation of free radicals in the body such as liver dysfunction. The research method using true experimental designs aimed at comparing the effect of ethanol extract of mangosteen peel (EEKM) on liver damage caused by MSG administration to vitamin E. Of 15 fish samples DDW strain male mice, which were divided into three treatment groups, namely control group / distilled water (P0), MSG administration group (P2), group administration MSG and EEKM(P3). Then assessed liver function as well as evaluating the level of immunohistochemical staining of liver damage with TNF-α (NBP1-67 821, pAb, 1:50 dilution). Ethanol extract of mangosteen peel and are able to improve the look of immunohistochemical expression of TNF-α inflammatory process caused by MSG administration(p>0,05). Abstract

AbstractThis study aims to develop of chemistry textbooks that used in Eleventh Grade of Senior high school of second semester based on 2013 curriculum to improve students’ achievement and develop students’ character. The samples of this study are SMAN 1 Lubuk Pakam, SMAN 2 Lubuk Pakam, Nusantara Senior High School, MAN Lubuk Pakam. The sample treatment is divided into two, experimental class and control class. The Data collection is done with objective tests, observation sheets during the learning process is done as well as a questionnaire to measure the evolving character at the end of learning. Data were analyzed using SPSS 19 with significance level 0.05. To determine difference in students’ achievement and students’ character by using Cooperative problem Based Learning. The effectiveness score of textbooks quality was 84.37 and KTSP textbook was 74.41. In addition, this research improves students’ achievement and character such as responsibility, creative, communicative and psychomotor. The students’gain achievement of the experiment class was 74.92 and the control class was 67.11. The effectiveness score of communicative character in experiments class was 78,08 and the controll class was 74.26, the creative character in experiment class was 78.28 and the controll class was 75.12, and the responsibility character in experiment class was 79.51 and the controll class was 75.30. The results of this study of indicate that the chemistry textbook was develop in this study can to to improve students’ Achievement and develop students’ character.Kata Kunci : Buku Ajar Kimia, Cooperative Problem Based Learning, Hasil Belajar, Tanggung Jawab, Kreativitas, Komunikatif, Psikomotorik
