Abstract

This article discusses the role of perennial philosophy in developing interligious harmony. One of prominent figures on perennial philosophy is Frithjof Schuon. Perennial philosophy has a constructive view in understanding religions. In the perennial philosophy perspective, the religious diversity is a reality that cannot be avoided. Schuon views that religion consists of exoteric and esoteric dimensions. Exoteric dimension is a particular dimension existed in every religion which is different between one and another. An exoteric statement that regards it itself as the only truth owner is also contradict with axiomatic truth that there is no unique fact in reality. Meanwhile, esoteric dimension is universal dimension that become common platform of all religions. The consciousness to esoteric dimension play significant role in building the harmony. This consciousness becomes the faundation for developing diversity consciousness. The consciousness of this religious diversity becomes the key word in developing interreligious harmony of life. Keywords: perennial philosophy, harmony, Frithjof Schuon

Abstract

The mosque of Pacinan Tinggi was likely built by Chinese in Pacinan area for their places of worship. It is indicated by the form of its minarets which is influenced by Chinese sryle. Moreover, not too far from the ruins of the mosque of Pecinan lies the cemetery of Chinese Muslims. It means that around Pecinan area were the communities of Chinese Muslims and they probably played an important role in the spread of Islam in Banten taking into account that the development of Islam in China is earlier than that of in the Archipelago, and Banten had been well known by Chinese people far of the establishment of the Sultanate of  Banten.

Abstract

Isra'iliyyat is all stories entering into interpretation (tafsir) based on the stories of C hristians, Jewish or others. Those stories are intentionally included into the interpretation by the enemies of Islam to corrupt Muslims' faith. The existence of  Isra’iliyyat in the interpretation began from that a number of the Jews who converted into Islam couldn't totally leave all of  their previous tenets and beliefs. As a result, their religious understanding and practices are .frequently mixed between Islam and their previous faith. These Isra'iliyyat stories entered and amended in the interpretation in the period of tabi'in and obtained a peak time in the period of tabi'it tabi'in without any coercive selection so that those stories are hardly ever refused.Tamim Ad-Dari, Abdullah bin Salam, Ka'ab al-ahbar, Wahab bin Munabbih,.  Muhammad  bin  Sa'ib  al-Ka/bi,  Abdul  Malik  bin  Abdul Aziz bin Juray: Muqotil bin Sulaiman, and Muhammad bin Manvan as-Suddi, the Jews priests who converted into Islam, are the main sources of the Isra’iliyyat stories. Isra’iliyyat can destruct the Muslims faith because it shows as if Islam were human creation, and could be inserted by the deviate imagination and thoughts. Moreover, it can also eliminate the Muslims trust toward the Salaf Ulama of the group of the companions and tabii·n. Besides, it can turn the Muslims notice to conduct a research and to reveal the great secrets oftheQur'an.

Abstract

There has been a strong linkage between the dissemination of Betawi culture and Islam in Jakarta. The prominent figures of Betawi are generally known as "kyai" or religious leaders. The Indonesian history recorded that Betawi people were strictly fanatic Muslims and, to some extent, during the Dutch colonization era they were strongly well-known as anti-Western. They tended to identify Western people as infidels. Nevertheless, the portrait of Islam and the social history of Muslim intellectuals among Betawi have not been much scrutinized. The researchers just gave more attention dealing with the social history, politics, arts and culture, and archeology of Betawi. This article tries to give contribution to the development of what Azra called biographical dictionary as a part of   the tarajim ulama literature. Abstract

Theology, in practical, appears into two poles: first, exclusive based normative theology; second, inclusive based socio-anthropocentric. Both of these exclusive and inclusive ways of thinking can be a paradigm in every belief of school of thoughts (Madzhab) or social groups (mass organizations). These two ways of logical reasoning (exclusive and inclusive) afoot each other, and they frequently do not come together at one point; indeed, both of them are often contradictive and clash each other. Theology constructed for the present context is the one that is completely living among the members of religious community and that may give motivation to act in the reality of human life. Theology is practically hoped to be an ideology that realty functions for practical needs of human, especially for the backward community. Keywords: theology, exclusive, inclusive, divinity, humanity.
