Abstract

The objective of this research is to improve the fourth graders’ social skills in the subject of natural science through applying type of TSOS at the elementary school of SD Kanigooro 03 Madiun. The mothod adopted is qualitative while the design is classroom action research. The research took place at SD 03 Kanigoro 04 for 4 months, i.e. February through Mei 2011. As many as 31 students involved as the subject of this research. Data were collected through observation. It was applied to observe their social skills (affective domain) during the teaching-learning process which covered the skills to share, to participate, and to communicate. An observation sheet was the instrument to collect data during the observation which, then, descriptively analyzed. Results in the first cycle showed their average scores came out of a single social skill. The average of every aspect, respectively,: the skill to share 63.74; that to participate 64.58; and that on communication 59.77. Results in the second cycle indicated a significant increase. They could share, participate and communicate better than before. Their average scores were: 84.67 for the skill to share; 87.09 for that to participate; and 84.67 for that for communication. A conclusion drawn is that the cooperative learning type of TSOS can improve the fourth graders’ social skills of SD Kanigoro 03 Madiun. Their average skill to share improved from 63.74 in the first cycle to 84.67 in the second cycle. That on the participation was from 64.58 to 87.09. Last of all, that on communication was from 59.77 to 84.67.

Abstract

As social beings, egocentrism which is a character of preschoolers needs to be encouraged and guided in order not to hinder their future socialization in their community. In that perspective, this research aims to investigate how to use outbond activity as a means to build social-emotional behaviors of preschoolers. The results show that the social and emotional behaviors of the preschoolers at the kindergarten Sekolah Alam Bandung developed fairly well. Their emotion showed their ability to identify and understand the emotion they were experiencing but not able to control it. The plan and the application were already on the right track. However, there should be improvement. Problems encountered involved teacher’s restriction of knowledge, and the skill to serve as a preschool educator as well as the outbond facilitator. It was shown that the outbond activity affected less signifacntly their social and emotional behaviors. Accordingly, it is recommended the significance of enhancing teachers’ knowledge and skills in designing, applying and evaluating the outbond activity in order to better build preschoolers’ social and emotional behaviors.

Abstract

Teaching supervision may aim to create a better learning atmosphere, guide teachers’ teaching experience, and help the teacher assess their students. A supervisor motivation to teachers can improve their commitment. There are approaches to supervision and dimensions to classify teachers to help supervisors select the approach to adopt. Among the approaches are the clinic, directive, non-directive, collaborative, informal, collegial, and individual related to teacher dimensions such as extent of attention, responsibility, maturity, and cognitive complexity of the teachers which ease to choose recommended approaches to apply in the supervising.

Abstract

Every teacher must foster the positive attitude, all the more, those of elementary schools. This kind of positive attitude should be cultivated since they are still studying in the teacher training study program. The students of elementary school teacher training study program of IKIP PGRI MADIUN have not yet coped with the positive attitude well, which is shown through evidence that they have not yet foster self-discipline in many class activities, such as being late getting in class, being incomplete doing tasks, being insensitive against the environmental changes and phenomena. In effort of cultivating their positive mental attitude, this research is conducted in the form of class action research design by inquiry-based controlled student worksheet. The student worksheet is used to develop the inquiry learning process for the mental attitude development, and the lecturer’s control is used to develop the linguistic and to nurture the concepts. As the nature of classroom action researh is to overcome problems, this research is conduted for the most problematic class of all, i.e. class 2G. The analysis results in conclusions that the positive attitude of the students develops in terms of self-discipline and learning activity, so as to suggest that inquiry-based controlled student worksheet is effective to develop students mental attitude.

Abstract

It has been theoretically approved that motivation has become the most dominant factor which influence students’ achievement. Motivation is the generator of the learning process; and it will be essential to know where the motivation comes from. This study concerns on factors which influence the learning motivation for the student of Economy Study Program, State University of Malang. Motivation is cited as the independent variable which is measured by: (1) possession of literatures; (2) frequency of questioning to lecturer; (3) punctuality in completing individual work; and (4) percentage of attendance. The dependent variables of motivation are intrinsic and extrinsic. The result of the analysis shows that: (1) the significant internal factors are intention and orientation in choosing the study program; and (2) the significant external factors are quality of lecturer, lectures content, instructional method, classroom circumference and library support.
