Abstract

This paper discusses about the urgency of the provision of ‘nonformal educators and educational personnel’. Starting with a proposition that if formal education is already developed highly, then there will be no need for nonformal education programs, and consequently no need for nonformal educators and educational personnel. But, the real situations in the industrialized countries of USA and Japan are to the contrary. Nonformal education programs in those advanced countries have been developed and become part and parcel of learning-teaching societies. If the industrialized countries are still in need of nonformal education programs, then the need is indeed more urgent in developing countries, such as Indonesia, including the provision of nonformal educators and educational personnel, but of course not the same qualification as that for ‘formal educators and educational personnel’. The paper would like that Indonesian education goes back to the ideas of three interrelated centers of education, i.e. (a) family education, (b) school education, and (c) community education, and away from the present push toward too much school-oriented education. The responsibility of character-building of the young generation should stay in the hands of parents (family education as the first and foremost center) and cannot be left to the school teachers alone.

Abstract

Topic covers how KKU program is being developed in universities. Its objective is to build up the spirits of entrepreneurships and independency among higher education students who are majoring in NFE. The learning exchange model is basically applied. It makes use of adult education principles. Through the model, students who are in the program of KKU are expected to share their knowledge and skills with entrepreneurs. In return, the entrepreneurs would exchange with their experiences in doing the business so that they become resource persons. Somehow, instead of sharing and exchanging knowledge, skills and experiences, students and entrepreneur just tend to socialize and communicate ini the activity. A conceptual model of learning exchange is needed so that the process of learning is intensively progressive and productive in developing cognitve and affective domains.

It was also aimed to know the direct or indirect effects of parents’ social-economic status, environment, expectations and comprehensions of early childhood education on the level of parents’ participation on early childhood education. The population of this research was all the parents who enrolled their children to the pre-school in Yogyakarta The descriptive analysis result shows that the level of parents’ participations and expectations is in the high category. Meanwhile parents’ comprehension of early childhood education concept is in the medium category. Since, the level of parents’ participation in early childhood education was highly affected by parents’ comprehensions, it can be stated that to raise the level of participations of parents in early childhood education, it is necessary to raise the parents’ comprehensions as well. Besides the efforts of the early childhood education institution to increase parents’ comprehensions, the government can also do this through parallel policies so that there isa harmony in parenting patterns.
