Abstract

Strategy-based instruction is believed to able to improve students’ involvement in learning, including learning listening. Unfortunately, the lack concept of the instruction and the less training that the students have causes them still struggling in learning listening. This research report is aimed at investigating the effectiveness of using strategy-based instruction in term of students’ involvement and students’ comprehension in listening. This is a classroom action research of which the researcher and the teacher worked collaborately in implementing the strategy-based instruction. The research was done in two cycles of which each cycle was realized in three meetings.  The data were collected using questionnaire and test. The finding suggests that the strategy-based instruction improve students’ learning in term of involvement and comprehension. The involvement in learning listening raised in all aspects of strategies which include cognitive, metacognitive and socio-affective strategies which reaches 30,3%. The improvement in term of involvement also affects the improvement in students’ comprehension from the average of 47 in the beginning of the study to 73 or 53% at the end of the.Key words: Students engagement, learning strategy, strategy based instruction

Abstract

The study of Istisqaq (derivational word) as a part of Fiqh lughah (Arabic linguistic) is a main concern of linguists in the recent decade. Istisqa’ is one of the distinguished features of Arabic which have rich vocabulary. In the early of the third century of Hijriah year, several Ulamas (Moslem scholar) pay a serious attention in the study of Istisqaq. Istisqaq is a process of forming a word to another word in order to produce a new meaning. This formation was initiated by Ibn Jinniy. He then wrote a monumental book entitled Al-Khashaish. Istisqaq is identical with the study of Ilm Syarf (morphology).  This paper concludes that the teaching of fiqh lughah in an advanced level needs to improve. In addition to this, the addition of language structure could be taught contextually and communicatively.   Kata kunci: analisis, isytiqaq, fikih lughah

Abstract

Mental revolution is a national movement and political jargon initiated by the Indonesian government nowadays. By using this jargon, it is expected that Indonesian people could achieve their dignity to be an independent, nobility, justice, and prosperous country. The mental revolution should be begun with job ethos – a mental attitude to see a job meaningfully. Job ethos is not seen as an effort to get salaries only. It is, however, an effort to do something meaningfully.  Job ethos will affect employee such as farmers, workers, merchants, and civil servant to do their jobs successfully and meaningfully.Kata kunci:  revolusi, mental, etos kerja

Abstract

Mental revolution and character education have an important role to advance human civilization. Essentially, the mental revolution and character education were aimed at making learners’ smart and noble. If these goals are achieved, the human civilization will tend to be more advanced than before. Conversely, if both or one of those goals ruled out, it will appear the destruction of civilization. For Indonesia, to make the learners’ smart and have moral required mental effort revolution integrated with a comprehensive character education. Mental revolution and character education are two aspects related and mutually aligned. Abstract

It is a fact that the symptom of misbehaviour among teenagers is not suddenly occurred. It could be caused by several factors such as lack of social supports from family as well as peer. One of other contributing factors is self-concept on negative aspects. Negative self-concept is potentially to be changed by using bibliotherapy. Bibliotherapy could scientifically be used as therapy to change self-concept from negative ones to the positive ones. The bibliotherapy might be implemented using individual, group, and classical approach. These approaches could be executed by counsellors to help teenagers have a positive self-concept. Abstract

This research was aimed at conducting a piloting project on improving professional competency of guidance teacher in promoting smart character of Islamic Elementary School (MIN) Sungai Tarab). To achieve the goal, qualitative approach and collaborative action research were employed. The subjects of the research were a guidance teacher and other school personnels. The subjects were chosen by means of purposive sampling technique since they were chosen in line with the purpose of the research. Data were collected by following the principles qualitative paradigm where the researcher was the key instrument, and observation, interview and documentary study were used. The research steps basically followed those of action research. Those steps were: 1) Intial reflction, 2) Planning, 3) action and observation, dan 4) reflection. Data analysis was carried out during data collection by referring to Miles dan Huberman’s which consisted of three main steps:  1) data reduction, 2) data display,  and 3) conclusion/verification. The finding of this research show that the delopment took place for several indicators of professional competency of the guidance teacher in terms of improving her horizon and knowledge and skill in administering and following up inventory (AUM) while other indicators cannot be improve due to time constrains from the subject of the research.Kata kunci: kompetensi profesional, konselor, karakter cerdas, MIN Sungai Tarab

Abstract

It is a fact that good values as well as Islamic velues are dicreased in the recent year. It could be caused by several reasons such as the act of amoral and anarchis. In order to overcome this problem, wholistical approach could be used. One of the approaches is using spiritual teistic counselling. This approach is based on Islamic values which derived from prophetic character. It developes one’s natural tendency (fitrah), critical thinking, and attitude in parallel with Islamic value. The use of this approach produces good character generation who own FAST character (fatonah- smart, amanah- reliable, siddiq-true, and tabligh-deliver).Kata kunci:    revolusi mental, konseling spritual teistik, karakter FAST.

Abstract

This study was aimed at finding to find out whether there is any significant academic achievement difference of the fifth and seventh semester of English students based on their achievement motivation.This research used ex-post facto design. From data analysis using inferential statistics--T-test for independent samples with statistical analysis tool, SPSS 18, it was found that there was a significant academic achievement difference of the fifth semester of English students based on their achievement motivation. Conversely, there is no significant academic achievement difference of the seventh semester ofEnglish students based on their achievement motivation. It means that the level of achievement motivation did not contribute significantly on the level of students’ academic achievement.Key Words: Academic Achievement Differences, Achievement Motivation, English Students

Abstract

The research is conducted based on the fact that Senior high school English teachers of Tanah Datar Regency face problems in implementing curiculum 2013.The research is aimed at finding out the problems of the teachers related to the implementation of the Curriculum. Therefore, a qualitative research method was applied. To collect the data of the research, interview technique was used. To analyze the colled data, interactive model of analysis as proposed by Miles and Huberman was used. The results of the research show that there were two types of the problems that the teachers faced in implementing the new Curriculum, those deriving from the teachers themsevels, and those deriving from others, like government, students and facilities. Abstract

Early childhood home visiting program to be one of the important components in the system of early childhood education in several countries. In some states in American, these countries have proved the success of early childhood home visiting services program, it can improving health and development in less prosperous families. Early childhood home visiting program is an alternative service in early childhood education which aims to improve access to services in early childhood intervention and meet the needs of early childhood living in conditions of risk and less prosperous families. Based on research, this service can build social capital and encourage the implementation of policies at the national level aimed at the welfare of children.In the practical implementation, early childhood home visiting program involved professionals in education, developmentalis and social workers to provide services to families who have young children and live below the poverty. The services providing education and parental guidance, the practice of home - based play for children , health and child development information, as well as services involving the surrounding community.This paper will (1) Discuss the success of implementation of early childhood home visit program in some countries, (2) examines how the practices of early childhood home visit program in promoting growth and development early childhood in less prosperous families, (3) analyze the mapping of early childhood home visit program in Indonesia to improve early childhood education participation rates in children and families less prosperous.Kata kunci: home visiting program, early childhood education, children at risk
