Abstract

The problem of the research was various unrevealed errors found in students’ theses at  Informatics and Computer Engineering Education  Department of IAIN Bukittinggi. This study is aiming at describing  the errors found in the students’ theses. This is a qualitative research which describes the errors of students’ writing theses. The data were collected through the technique bof documentary study. The source of data was the students’ theses. The research consisted of five phases; Reading, Identifying, Coding, Summarizing, Displaying, and Summarizing the data. The result describes five errors in students’ theses namely: uncohesive, uncoherent, incomplete, undeveloped, and   unsequential arrangement of paragraphs.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to figure out the effect of cooperative strategy type STAD with LDS on the students’ cognitive domain learning outcomes in Biology class, at the eighth grade of SMPN 3 Batang Anai. The research was an experimental research with Randomised Control Group Postest Only Design. The research instrument was a multiple choice test consisting of 55 test items. The cognitive test result of the experimental group was 70.46, whereas that of the control group was 60.07. T test result shows tcount (3.34) > ttable (1.68). Thus the hypothesis was accepted. It is concluded that the cooperative learning Type STAD with LDS gives an effect on the students’ cognitive domain learning outcomes of Biology subject taught to the eighth grads students of SMPN 3 Batang Anai Padang Pariaman regency.

Abstract

Due to the queries of whether the implementation of contextual teaching strategy in teaching Islamic education is in line with Al-Quran and Hadits or not, the research tries to search for the historical facts, and the relevant verses in Al-Quran and Hadits. This was a qualitative research describing whether the contextual teaching consisting of seven components have relevance and strong base in islamic tradition. The result shows the contextual teaching principles such as, constructivism, questioning, inquiry, learning community, modelling, reflection, and authentic assessment have strong relation and foundation in Al-Quran, Hadits, and Islamic history. It can be concluded that contextual teaching is applicable in teaching Islamic education.

Abstract

This article depicts problems faced by High School teachers while using literature in teaching English. The data related to their broad views of using literature in the classroom were obtained from semi structured questionnaires as the preliminary data distributed to English teachers in Tanah Datar regency. As the result, by using purposive sampling technique ten of the teachers were selected to be the informants of the research. Then, in-depth interviews were conducted to the informants in order to find the obstacles encountered while integrating literature in their teaching of English. As the result, most of the informants found that using literature is interesting, however it is relatively disadvantageous because of several burdens, such as 1) Its difficult language, in terms of its complexity, its structure, vocabulary, poetic and unfamiliar diction, 2) inappropriacy with the students’ level, 3) not suitable with the topics, 4) time management, 5) students’ lack of pronunciation, 6) unavailable supporting tools, 7) limited resources, 8) students’ unconfidence, and 9) unattractive poem materials.

Abstract

This research aims at improving students’ activity and learning outcomes through Cooperative Learning Type Numbered Head Together (NHT) in Basic Natural Sciences subject at Program Studi Pendidikan Biologi STKIP PGRI West Sumatera. This research is a classroom action research lasting for 2 cycles. Each cycle consisted of 4 stages, namely planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research was conducted in Basic Natural Science class attended by 30 students. The research parameters were the students’ activity identified through the observation sheet recorded the students’ action during the learning process and their learning outcomes gained from a test. Data analysis used percentage formula. The results show that the average of students’ activity on the first cycle was 76.12 and increased in cycle II to 79.45. Meanwhile the students’ learning outcomes in the first cycle was 77.62 with the classical completeness of 73.33% . It increased in cycle II to 78.97 with the classical completeness of 77.33%. In short, the application of cooperative learning model type Numbered Head Together can increase the students’ activity and learning outcomes in Basic Natural Science subject.

Abstract

The main focus of this research is to investigate corrective feedback made by the English teacher during classroom interaction. The study was qualitative research. The data in this study were the utterances that spoken by teacher and student during the classroom activity. The data were collected through a record where the writer himself recorded the utterances during teaching learning process a ninety-minute in duration. In this study, the teacher is an English teacher who teaches at grade XI SMA Payakumbuh. The data were analyzed by qualitative approach, writer explained corrective feedback types that happened in classroom interaction. There are six types of corrective feedback occurred in the classroom interaction at SMA 1 Payakumbuh namely: recast, repetition, clarification request, explicit correction, elicitation, and paralinguistic correction. Recast, clarification request and elicitation are the most corrective feedback applied by teacher in the classroom interaction.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop tree chart media used to teach writing narration at the fifth grade of elementary school level. The research design was Research and Development with ADDIE model. The subjects of the research were the students and teacher at the fifth class of SDI Al-Azhar Muhammadiyah Simabur. The research instruments were 1) the expert and practitioner validity assessment sheets,  2) practicality instruments such as, lesson plans, questionnaire of teacher and student response of practicality, and validity assessment sheets, and 3) effectivity instrument namely students’ writing test result. The data were analyzed descriptively. The result shows that the developed teaching materials were extremely valid indicated by both expert validity gain 92% and practitioner validity gain 93%. In terms of practicality, the teaching materials were very practical indicated by both teacher response 93.3% and the student response 92.9%. At last, the effectivity was shown by the students activity while doing writing. In summary, the tree chart-based-teaching media in teaching writing narration is valid, practical, and effective to the fifith grade students.
