Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyze the spatial distribution of the water discharge in the Ciliwung watershed based on the remote sensing satellite data. Digital elevation model (DEM) is processed to determine the watershed border using the steepest slope method and also used to calculate pixels area. The calculated pixels area are used to determine the watershed and landcover areas in 3 dimension perspective, the landcover of the Ciliwung watershed is mapped by using SPOT-4 image acquired in 2007. All generated information are used as the input to determine the spatial distribution of the water discharge using the run-off coefficient table produced by related institutions. In the next step, the total water discharge in some oulets (Katulampa, Depok and Muara Ciliwung) are compared and the relationship between the landcover condition and the water discharge is evaluated. The result shows that DEM can be used to determine the watershed border and calculate the watershed area, which the results are almost same with the real condition. The spatial distribution of the water discharge is useful to analyse the water discharge contribution of each part of watershed to the total water discharge in the Ciliwung watershed. It shows that the water discharge in Katulampa outlet contributes 44 % of the total water discharge in the Ciliwung watershed. Further, some landcover types are identified in the high water discharge area. This kind of information is very useful for the regional planning and flood management activities. Abstract

Development on Remote Sensing field requires an optimal data compression technique to result high compression ratio but prevent data quality, so the data still be accepted on application remote sensing. One of the newest compression technique is hybrid compression that combine the reduction spectral redundancy and the reduction spatial redundancy. On this research will propose the improvement of hybrid technique compression for multiband MODIS data which developed by Yuan-Xiang Li, et.al (IEEE 2007). The improvement is by selecting better reference band for band prediction, skip the prediction band for unpredictable band and propose to use higher decomposition wavelet level will get better the compression performance. The Simulation result is the linier interband prediction with skip band will get the high value of PSNR ( 40 dB) and high compression ratio (80). The result of the compression will be used for remote sensing application of the MODIS data, specially for global earth observation. Abstract

On the transition of operational Geostationary Meteorological Satellite GMS-5 to MTSAT-1R, HiRID’s data packet was introduced. HiRID uses the same frame as of the S-VISSR, with some modifications to accommodate the additional information because of performance improvement of its data imaging system. Performance improvement of instrument is associated with addition of IR4 channel and radiometric resolution improvement of infrared channel to 10 bits/ pixel. The operating lifetime of HiRID as transition data packet to the MTSAT-1R HRIT is limited in the view of giving a grace period to the Earth station operators to upgrade the receiving systems towards HRIT operationalization. This paper reviews the efforts to obtain MTSAT-1R HiRID data and adjustments made in the sub-receiver systems, sub-system of data pre-processing. The discussion includes a glance of RF system integration, data extraction techniques and information extraction of documentation sector, focusing the discussion on the different of structures of HiRID data packets and S-VISSR as well as techniques that are applied to extract image data and any information contained therein. Abstract

An image is often corrupted by a noise in its acquisition and transmission. A high resolution remote sensing data will be seen more roughly if it is corrupted by a noise. Wavelet is one of the fascinating denoising manners that will be used to solve this problem. The main application of the Stationary Wavelet Transform (SWT) is denoising. The principle is the average of several denoised signals. Each of them is obtained by using the usual denoising scheme, but it is applied to the coefficients of a ε-decimated DWT. The stationary wavelet transform (SWT) is to make the wavelet decomposition time invariant. This improves the power of wavelet in the signal denoising. In this research, we apply the SWT method to preprocess the remote sensing data for removing the noise. The Worldview-1 satellite data is used in this research. The sensor resolution is 0.55 meters and Ground Sample Distance (GSD) at 20º off-nadir. The Area of Interest (AoI) is Monas, Jakarta and the acquisition of the data was done on March 13th, 2008. For the data analysis, the Worldview-1 satellite data is added by the noise. The result of this research is that the noise can be removed by SWT method. By using structural similarity index (SSIM), the quality of the denoised images by SWT, Wavelet Transform 2D and Wavelet Packet 2D are 0.2666, 0.1912, and 0.1927, respectively. Thus, the SWT provides a better performance in denoising the remote sensing data than Wavelet Packet 2 D and Wavelet 2D methods. Keyword: Denoising, Remote sensing data, Stationary wavelet transform

Abstract

TMangrove forests grow near the big river estuary where the river delta gives a lot of sediment (sand and mud). Mangrove roots collect sediments and slow the water flow to protect the coastline and prevent the erosion. Along the time, the roots can collect mud to extend the edge of the coastline. The purpose of this study was to analyze the changes of mangrove forests, coastline, and its effect on the income of fishermen on the Bahagia coast, Muara Gembong, Bekasi, West Java Province during 17 years between 1990 and 2007. Observations were made by using two series of multitemporal (Landsat- TM 1990 and SPOT-4 2007) data. Information about the distribution, extent and land cover changes to analyze the value was obtained by the spectral based (RGB 453 Landsat-TM and RGB 143 SPOT-4) color composite image, image classification, and field data. While information on the coastline change based on the 2007 classified images was overlayed with the classified images in 1990. Multitemporal data analysis results show that: 1). mangrove forest changes during the 17 years (1990-2007) has decreased from 34.89 hectares to 33.23 hectares and the results of overlaying the image of the coastline of classification image in 2007 with the coastline of classification image in 1990 found that there coastline abrasion occurs and accretion; 2). conditions of the existence of mangrove forests in coast Bahagia with a dwindling population have affected the income of fishermen nearby. Abstract

The relationship between the cloud top temperature from MTSAT-1R and the rainfall from QMorph data in Bengawan Solo water catchment area have been analyzed in this research. The analysis was done using data during 21 – 30 December, 2007 (00 – 23 UTC) for 240 data sets. The result shows that the cloud top temperature which have been potential to be high rain is around 195° – 235° K, whereas the cloud top temperature is greater than 235° K related to the low rainfall. Meanwhile, there was a logarithmic relationship between the rainfall from QMorph data and the cloud top temperature of MTSAT-1R (infrared 1 channal) with the coefficient correlation 0.78. The threshold of the cloud top temperature for the flash flood in Bengawan Solo is lower than 215° K at least lasting for 4 days. The heavy rainfall which occured intensively could be a triggered for the flood disaster around Bengawan Solo water catchment area. Abstract

Drought occurs when there is a lack of water in particular area and is usually caused by less amount of rainfall over that particular area. The impact of drought in Indonesia is usually noticed in the agricultural land. For that reason, agricultural drought monitoring in near-real time is very important. The TVDI (Temperature Vegetation Dryness Index) method is used in this research for agricultural drought monitoring. The TVDI is holding the information on the amount of soil moisture at the earth’s surface. The index is calculated from the surface temperature and the vegetation index. In this research, the TVDI model was developed from the enhanced vegetation index (EVI) and the land surface temperature (Ts) in Riau and Central Kalimantan Province using the Terra-MODIS in the period of June – August from 2003 to 2006. The formula are : Riau TVDI = (LST – (5.1912 * EVI + 294.72))/(-15.701 * EVI + 13.98), and Central Kalimantan TVDI = (LST – (0.498 * EVI + 296.97))/(-12.272 * EVI + 10.87). The model was then applied for detecting agricultural drought in Jambi Province and overlayed with landuse from LANDSAT ETM+ 2002/2003. The result showed that the paddy, dryland agriculture and plantation area are more sensitive to drought than shrub/bush. The mean values of TDVI are 0.40 and 0.34 for dryland agriculture/ plantation and paddy area respectively, while the shrub/bush is only 0.18. Based on the TDVI class for high drought (0.6  TVDI ≤ 1), it can be shown that from the periode of June-August 2003-2006, the large area of drought occurred in paddy area, plantation, and dryland agriculture was around 8 % in August, while the drought in the forest and shrub/bush area was narrow around 3 % in August. Further research can be done in order to know the accuracy, the verification, and the validation. Key words: MODIS, TVDI, EVI, LST (Land Surface Temperature)
