Abstract

NPV analysis is used to evaluate overall costs and benefits in the cigarette industry in Indonesia. This research concludes that the existence of the cigarette industry is shown to cause losses to society, based on a negative NPV value using a normal discount rate of 24% (Moll, 1989) and an IRR of 27%. An IRR value of 27% is too high compared with the current interest rates in Indonesia of 12% to 15%. Based on the results of the analysis, it is hoped that the government will determine policy related to the existence of the cigarette industry in Indonesia paying particular attention to overall societal welfare. The government should not only weigh the benefits received, but also weigh the losses which must be carried by others in society. The cigarette industry should develop research to try to find new products with safer materials so that cigarette consumption by both active and passive smokers is not as dangerous to consumers' health. Smokers should be more aware of the threat from cigarette consumption as active smokers, as well as for their families as passive smokers. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia : Analisis NPV digunakan untuk menilai cost dan benefit secara keseluruhan di industri rokok di Indonesia. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa keberadaan industri rokok terbukti merugikan dengan hasil penghitungan NPV yang negatif pada tingkat discount rate yang wajar yaitu sebesar 24% (Moll,1989) serta tingkat IRR 27,00%. Tingkat IRR 27,00% menjadi terlalu tinggi jika dibandingkan dengan nilai suku bunga yang berlaku di Indonesia saat ini yaitu 12% sampai 15%. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, diharapkan pemerintah dapat menentukan kebijakan yang berhubungan dengan keberadaan industri rokok di Indonesia, dengan mempertimbangkan kesejahteraan sosial masyarakat secara keseluruhan. Pemerintah tidak hanya perlu mempertimbangkan keuntungan yang diterima dari industri rokok tetapi juga mempertimbangkan kerugian yang harus ditanggung oleh masyarakat. Industri rokok dapat mengembangkan penelitian untuk mencoba menemukan produk baru dengan kandungan bahan baku yang lebih aman sehingga pengkonsumsian rokok oleh konsumen baik secara aktif maupun secara pasif tidak membahayakan kesehatan konsumennya. Perokok hendaknya meningkatkan kesadaran akan ancaman yang merugikan dari pengkonsumsian rokok selaku perokok aktif maupun bagi anggota keluarganya sebagai perokok pasif. Abstract

Measuring brand equity becomes an important part in the organization, espe­ci­al­ly college. By mea­suring the brand equity, the college would be more understanding about its brand awareness, brand asso­ciation, perceived quality, and brand loyalty. The Research problems were: (1) How were the students’ per­ception about STIE Surakarta brand awareness?(2) How were the effects of brand association and perceived quality on brand loyalty. The samples of this research were 120 students of STIE Surakarta. The analysis used description and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results showed that (1) the brand of STIE Surakarta occupied 3rd position in the minds of consumers; (2) Brand association had positive but in­sig­ni­ficant effect on loyalty and perceived quality had positive and significant effect on brand loyalty.

Abstract

Every company try to build the brand image of their businesses by doing a green program as one of their strategies. This research aims to see the impacts of the implementation of a green program at Surabaya Plaza Hotel, Surabaya. 230 hotel customers were randomly chosen as the respondents. Through descriptive and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) analysis, can be seen that technical quality brings insignificant negative impacts towards customer satisfaction. Meanwhile, functional quality and brand image bring a significant positive impact toward customer satisfaction. Besides that, technical quality and functional quality bring a significant positive effect indirectly toward customer satisfaction through brand image as mediating.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan menganalisis pengaruh atmospheric terhadap customer loyalty melalui joy pada pengunjung Trans Studio Bandung. Penelitian ini menggunakan SEM dengan LISREL 8.7. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan adalah convenience sampling. Penelitian ini menggunakan survei melalui kuesioner. Jumlah sampel sebanyak 120 responden. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan satu dari tiga variabel atmospheric berpengaruh terhadap variabel joy yaitu design, dua variabel lainnya yaitu ambience dan interaction tidak berpengaruh terhadap joy dan joy berpengaruh terhadap custo-mer loyalty.

Abstract

Nowdays bad financing causes almost every family problem. Basicly the main cause is families' lack of ability to manage their money, or lack of time to make a financial plan which cause many problems, such as: negative cashflow, bad investment, bad educational plan and many more. In order to achieve a financially settled family, a socialization program about the importance of family financial planning, the training and financial planner services are needed. These programs require help from educational organization, more specifically universities, because one of their purposes is to be a study center for society. To support the needs of programs above, besides the reasons that I have mentioned before, the result of family financial research reveals that one factor which influences family interest in financial planning is how well educated that family is. The result shows that a housewife in Surabaya whit S1- degree is more interested in doing a financial planning than those with average educational experience. Therefore it can be concluded that education factor holds important role in crisising family's interest in financial planning. There is why, an improvement in Universities' role to achive a financially settled family in Surabaya is needed. Every university in Surabaya starts to open classes for those programs about. Financial educators in universities must take active part, which is being financial planner and speakers in advantage socialization program and financial planning training. With help from universities, hopefully there will be a lot of financially settled families in Surabaya with positive casflow on there financial conditions, with ability to make the right investment and do their educational plan which is appropriate to families' objectives. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia : Dewasa ini banyak keluarga tidak mapan dalam hal keuangan sehingga timbul permasalahan yang rumit di dalam keluarga. Penyebabnya adalah ketidakmampuan keluarga mengelola keuangan atau tidak adanya waktu untuk membuat perencanaan keuangan sehingga menimbulkan permasalahan sebagai berikut negatif cashflow, banyak aktiva yang tidak likuid, kesalahan investasi, kesalahan perencanaan dana pendidikan dan masih banyak lagi. Dalam rangka menciptakan keluarga yang mapan dalam hal keuangan maka perlu adanya suatu program sosialisasi pentingnya peranan perencanaan keuangan keluarga, pelatihan perencanaan keuangan keluarga dan pemberian jasa financial planner. Program -program di atas memerlukan peranan lembaga dunia pendidikan khususnya peranan universitas karena universitas salah satu perannya adalah pusat studi bagi masyarakat. Selain alasan di atas untuk mendukung perlunya program-program di atas, dari hasil penelitian keuangan keluarga yang mengungkapkan bahwa salah satu faktor yang mempengaruhi minat perencanaan keuangan keluarga adalah faktor pendidikan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ibu rumah tangga di Surabaya yang sudah mengenyam pendidikan tinggi setara S1 lebih berminat melakukan perencanaan keuangan keluarga dibandingkan dengan pendidikan menengah setara SMU, sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa faktor pendidikan mempunyai peranan penting dalam meningkatkan minat perencanaan keuangan keluarga. Oleh karena itu perlu adanya peningkatan peranan universitas dalam rangka menciptakan keluarga yang mapan dalam hal keuangan di Surabaya. Setiap universitas di Surabaya mulai mengambil peran membuka program-program di atas.. Para pengajar keuangan di Universitas harus mengambil peran aktif yaitu mengambil gelar profesi keuangan yaitu menjadi seorang financial planner dan menjadi pembicara dalam program sosialisasi manfaat dan pelatihan perencanaan keuangan. Dengan adanya peningkatan peran aktif universitas di Surabaya maka banyak terdapat keluarga mapan di Surabaya dengan kondisi keuangan yang mengalami positive cashflow, semakin banyak aktiva likuid, dapat melakukan investasi yang tepat, merencanakan dana pendidikan sesuai dengan tujuan keluarga dan lain-lain. Kata kunci: perencanaan keuangan, keluarga mapan, peran universitas.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of TQM practices implementation which consists of leadership, strategic planning, customer focus, information and analysis, people management, and process management on employee performance at PT. Telkom Branch Makassar. The population were 540 employees and 270 employees as respondent. The sample obtained based on simple random sampling method. Both descriptive statistic and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) were employed to test the effect among variables. Data processing were used by SPSS and AMOS 16.00. The finding of research indicates that: TQM practices implementation which consists of leadership, strategic planning, customer focus, information and analysis, people management, and process management have significantly and positive effect on employee performance.

Abstract

AFTA is the concept of eliminating tariff barriers among ASEAN countries with a view to integrating the ASEAN economies into a single production base and regional market. The main objective of AFTA is to increase ASEAN's competitive edge as a production base geared for the world market. The critical step in this direction is the liberalization of trade in the region through the elimination of intra-regional tariffs and elimination of non-tariff barriers. In Indonesian industrialists view, the implementation of liberalization of trade in AFTA scheme is not only a challenge, but more likely a massive problem, for they have minimum competitive advantage compared to other ASEAN countries (especially Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand). Since the 1970s, Indonesian economic development was built on the basic pattern of the bureaucratic-industrialist relationship, which caused fragile industrialists and corrupt bureaucrats. These bureaucrat-industrialist relationships grew immensely in Soeharto's era, and are still sustained until now. Recently, Indonesia had to face the competitive trade among ASEAN countries as the consequences of the implementation of the regional integration commitment through AFTA. Moreover, as a member of ASEAN, it looks like Indonesia has no choice but to join this competition. Until now, there is so much resistance in implementing AFTA in Indonesia, especially accepting the Common Effective Preferential Tariff (CEPT)scheme in the import sector (for both industrialist and customs). The implementation of CEPT scheme, in the import sector, makes Indonesian industrialists worry of losing their dominance on local markets. On the other side, the bureaucrats, especially the Indonesian customs, will lose their revenue from import duty and also their 'under-table business', that causes a high cost economy and creates so many inefficiencies.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze financial performance as measured by Return on Assets (ROA) on firm value as measured by Tobin's Q as well as to analyze the Good Corporate Governance as a moderating variable. The research objects were food and beverage firms. The technique analysis was multi-ple linear regression analysis. The results showed that financial performance was influenced on the value of firms, while the Good Corporate Governance was not a moderating variable of the relationship between the financial performance and the firm value.

Abstract

Issues regarding service management continue to be of interest. The concept of productivity in the service industry has been criticized, given the differences between services and manufacturing. Measuring productivity of services depends greatly on the valuing of the quantity and quality of inputs and outputs of the service. Companies need strategies which will increase customer satisfaction and need to also reduce costs for those strategies. By increasing productivity and service quality it is hoped that the value of the company will increase through the strategy of re-engineering by giving attention to backstage and frontstage labor. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia : Masalah-masalah tentang manajemen jasa semakin menarik. Konsep tentang produktivitas dalam bisnis jasa pun disoroti, mengingat jasa berbeda dengan manufaktur. Mengukur produktivitas jasa sangat tergantung pada penilaian kuantitas dan kualitas input dan output dari jasa tersebut. Perusahaan membutuhkan strategi untuk meningkatkan kepuasan konsumen dan diikuti juga oleh usaha untuk menurunkan biaya pada aktivitas yang terkait. Dengan meningkatkan produktivitas dan kualitas jasa diharapkan meningkatkan nilai perusahaan, melalui strategi re-engineering dengan memperhatikan kondisi backstage dan frontstage tenaga kerja. Abstract

Purpose of this study is to discuss the synergic and separate use of knowledge management and competitive intelligence in stage of strategic management process. This study presents two independent variables (Knowledge Management and Competitive intelligence) and one dependent variable (Strategic management process). 145 samples from Indonesia small businesses considered valid, thereby indicating 88.41% validity rate. The results show that the proposed variable, Knowledge management and Competitive intelligence significantly influences Strategic management process from the perspective of the small business in West Indonesia. This result implies a lack of mediation effect presented by the Competitive intelligence. This finding clarifies the research question that Knowledge management and Competitive intelligence are associated with Strategic management process.
