Abstract

This study aims to effect of the TGT learning model on student’s creativity and comprehension of concepts in mathematics learning. This study used quasi-experimental research. The population in this study were 256 students of class VIII SMP YPPSB. The research sample was obtained in class VIII-H of 32 students as the experimental class and class VIII-D with total of the students were 31 students as the control class. The test used to analyze the research data was the Independent Sample T-test on the posttest results. The results of the study showed that creativity and comprehension of concepts using the TGT learning model was better than the class that used conventional learning. The average creativity used the TGT learning model tcount = 4.080 and the average comprehension of the concept of tcount = 11.012 with ttable = 2.00 which means tcount> ttable. Thus, the TGT type learning model has a significant influence on student’s creativity and comprehension of concepts in mathematics learning.

Abstract

Mathematics is based on certain concepts and rules, teachers must motivatestudents to be able to express the concept in the real world yet. not allmathematical material is abstract or all mathematical material can be madereal. Therefore, there needs to be a bridge between the abstract world andthe real world. Mathematics Manipulative Media is one of the subjects inmathematics education program at Kanjuruhan University. This subjects isgiven to third year students this class started using Project-Based Learning(PBL). PBL was design to teach the student with combining concept andstudent skills. These skills include communication and presentation skills, organization and time management skills, research and inquiry skills, selfassessmentand reflection skills, group participation and leadership skills, and critical thinking. All of these skills are needed for their life in theirsociety. Implementation of PBL in this manipulative media class is doneusing 4 stages, namely the delivery of rules and concepts, the delivery ofideas, product/creation solution and problem conclusion. While the skillsinvolved at each stage are communication and presentation skills, time andorganizational management skills, searching and discovering skills, selfassessingand reflection skills, leadership and lead skills, and criticalthinking.

Abstract

This study aims to describe students' mathematical communication skillsboth oral and written. The communication ability is observed through theapplication of cooperative learning model type TGT for set theory. Theresearch design was qualitative descriptive. The subjects of the study were 17students of class VII-B. The learning material were lesson plan, discussion group, game group, worksheet, game question, and written test. The research instruments were observation sheet of teacher activity, writtenand oral mathematical communication ability. The results of the study at thefirst meeting showed that the ability of oral mathematical communication hadsufficient category and written had low category. The second meeting of oralmathematical communication skills had sufficient category and written wasbetter than before. Oral mathematical communication improved at the thirdmeeting, while written in the low category. The fourth meeting was increasedin the ability of oral and written mathematical communication, for high oralmathematical communication and written with high category as well. Thestudents' mathematical communication skills from the first to fourthmeetings had increased. The average overall ability of oral and writtenmathematical communication was sufficient

Abstract

This study is a quasi experiment, which aims to examine the achievementand improvement of mathematical connection ability and Adversity Quotientof Mts students through SQ4R learning as a whole and based on KAM andassociation among variables. The population in this research is all students ofclass VIII MTsN 1 Subang. Samples were taken by random class, which arefrom eight grade obtained two classes, namely VIII D as the experimentalclass and class VIII A as the control class. Instruments in this study wereeach set of tests for mathematical connections, and a set of student’sadversity quotient scales and a set of student’s scale of views on SQ4Rlearning. The study found that the achievement and improvement ofmathematical connection ability of students whose learning using SQ4Rlearning is better than that of learning using ordinary learning as a whole orreviewed from KAM. And also adversity quotient of students who studyusing SQ4R is better than the learning using ordinary learning. it was alsofound an association between the ability of connections and adversityquotient of students in the classroom using SQ4R learning. The student’sperformance illustration during the SQ4R study shows the student’s activityboth individually or in cooperate in their group to build new knowledge thatmust be owned by students, so that improving the ability of mathematicalconnections as well as the adversity quotient of the student.

Abstract

Performance assessment needs to understand and implement by teachers sothat the teachers can assess the skills aspects of their studentswell. However, some teachers have difficulties in implementingperformance assessment includes mathematic teachers at MTs Al MustaqimParepare. The purpose of this research is to describe the difficulties ofimplementing performance assessment on understanding aspects ofmathematic teachers at MTs Al Mustaqim Parepare. This research wasqualitative research. The subjects of the study were two mathematic teachersof MTs Al-Mustaqim Parepare here in after called subject 1 (H) and subject2 (N). The focus of the research is to describe the difficulties teachers usingthe performance assessment on aspects of teachers' understanding ofmathematic. For revealing the research data, this conducts tests andinterviews to the subject of research. The data of research is validated bydoing triangulation method. The Research of data is analyzed by (a)studying the subject data and comparing data to obtain for valid data, (b)reducing data by creating abstractions, (c) classifying and identifying thedata to draw conclusions from the data. The result research shows thatthe difficulties for teachers, it is for understanding aspect about theassessment performance. For instance, (a) the subject 1 (H) was difficult inunderstanding about the concept of assessment, (b) the subject 1 (H) wasdifficult in understanding the assessment techniques so that it can beimplemented, (c) subject 1 (H) was difficult in understanding the types ofassessment rubrics, and (d) subject 2 (N) was difficult in understanding theconcept of assessment.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe learning plan on Opportunity material usingTeams Games Tournaments (TGT) with a scientific approach, and to knowstudent learning activities on learning materials opportunities using TeamsGames Tournaments (TGT) with scientific approach, as well as to know theresults of student learning on learning materials Opportunities using TeamsGames Tournaments (TGT) with scientific approach. Type of this research isdescriptive and the approach used is qualitative and quantitative. Techniqueof collecting data were observation, test, and documentation. The resultsshowed that the planning of TGT learning was only based on 4 components:(1) class presentations, (2) teams, (3) games, and (4) tournaments as well asthe non-implementation of group awards and components combined withscientific approaches, while student learning activities are in type of “good”category since the test results showed that 28 students were complete and 6students were unfinished. In classical, students' completeness reached 82.3%and was said to be complete. These results indicated that learning activitieswith TGT model with scientific approach is good to be applied.

Abstract

Students of State Islamic Junior High School (MTsN) Kepanjen find themselves difficult in understanding a chapter of straight line equation. The learning method used is considered to be text book oriented and being teacher centered learning. This research aims to increase students participatory and be more student centered learning. It used a new model of learning called Think Talk Write (TTW) along with passing out the hand out to students. This too attempts to have students understanding regarding a chapter of straight line equation.Type used was classroom action research and held on a eigth year students of MTsN Kepanjeng. Object of this research were students of class VIII-C and were divided into nine group, each one consists of four students. They were grouped based on their degree of ability ranging from high, moderate and low. Data collected was analysed using data reduction, presenting and drawing conclusion toward students test result, observation, interview and field notes. Teacher distributed hand out to students and they have been asked individually to read and think through the contents. The objective was to gain preliminary  nowledge. Afterwards, they worked in group to discuse the idea and concept as well as doing the assigments. Teacher as a facilitator brainstormed the concept and guide students to present it in front of class. By the end of the class, students and teacher have got together to make a conclusion of all. The result showed TTW along with the hand-out have able to improve students understanding over straight line equation. The final test showed the students grade of accomplishment has reached by 88,89%.
