Abstract

This paper aims to analyze and describe the field of meaning of the word “tajatuah”. Data are analyzed using the matching method and the method used.It can be concluded that the words that include the field of meaning of the word “tajatuah” are “tumbang, tagolek, tarambau, taguliang, taserak, tajungkek, tadorong, talapeh, tasungkua, rabah, balambin, taampeh, taambua, badabuak, taduduak, tasanduang, tatungkai, tatunggik , tasialia, tajilapak, tapaleset, tagalincia, tajirangkang, tataruang, tatilantang, tagurajai, tatungkuik, luruah, roboh, rontok, runtuah, tabantiang, tabuang, tacampak, lareh” and “taambuang”. It can be concluded, the word “tajatuah” includes the types of lexical meanings, contextual meanings, associative meanings, idiomatic meanings, and proverbs. Based on the classification of the field of tajatuah there are (1) the basic meaning and additional meaning, (2) the value of taste, (3) the prevalence of usage and (4) the distribution.

Abstract

This article describes batarewai procession. Batarewai is a tradition that involves datuak and newly married grooms to parade around the village.Data on this research is obtained through observation, interview, and data testing techniques. Additional data is obtained from books, results of previous studies, and other sources related to this study.There are three stages of the batarewai procession (1) manjapuik datuak (2) kaliliang kampuang (3) naik ka balai adat. The purpose of the batarewai was explained, to introduce the newly married bride and through the nagari discussion.

Abstract

This article describes the motives of Minangkabau people to merantau in kaba. Through intrinsic analysis, the analysis of kaba was continued using the socio-literary approach based on the sociology of the Minangkabau communityThe motive of merantau in kaba are (1) cultural factors, (2) economic factors, (3) deepening knowledge, (4) social factors, and (5) accompanying the husband. The professionals involved in the majority are trading. The area that is the destination of nomads is cities with a high level of the trade such as the City of Bukittinggi, the City of Padang, and the City of Medan.

Abstract

This article explains the types of greeting words used by Minangkabau people in Ujuang Batuang and how the words are used. The basic technique used in this study is tapping technique, while the advanced technique used in this study is the simak libat cakap (SLC) technique and simak bebas libat cakap (SBLC) technique, continued with note technique.The results found three categories of greeting words used by the Ujuang Batuang community, namely: (1) general greeting words, (2) adat greeting words, and (3) religious greeting words.

Abstract

This paper describes the meaning of the eatery names in Bukittinggi. Data provide with simak method. The basic technique is sadap and the advanced technique is simak libat cakap technique and simak bebas libat cakap technique continued with an interview. Data were analyzed with padan technique.The results show that the names of eatery in the Bukittinggi have different meanings, namely based on the background of owner origin, the unique characteristic, similarity, and an abbreviation. The use of these meanings can be classified in the form of lexical and referential meanings.
