Abstract

Test of productivity was held in West Java (Bandung, Bogor, Garut, Subang) and in East Java, Blitar (Pakunden sub district and Sukorejo sub district), at elevation 20? 400    sea level. The soil type are Aluvial Latosol and Sandy loam. The Experiment was conducted held 2009 from 2010 during dry season. Randomized Bloc Design was used for this experiment, with three replications and twelve entries. F1 hibrida lines were 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and two F1 hibrid varieties: Hercules and Asian Star. The treatment was repeated three times as chek varieties, planting distance is 40 x 60 cm. This experiment purpose of is to choose the best hybrid line of cucumber for released variety. Statistics are analysis with Duncan multiple range test 5 % showed that the total yield of F1 hybrid 1 and the hybrid 7 is significantly higer than the F1 hybrid Hercules but not to the Asian Star production.Key words: yield, F1 hybrid, line, cucumber, location

Abstract

This research is a series of activities that studies the embryogenesis for somatic clonal reproduction plant sugarcane multiplication in vitro which in-cludes the callus induction of explant pieces rolls up the leaves, the proliferation of embriogenic callus, and shoots induction of embriogenic callus. Those of three researchs were conducted in a series. This experiment were carried out in The Plant Science Laboratory, the Faculty of Agriculture, the University of Lampung, Indonesia, from Oktober 2010 until April 2011. All experiments were conducted in a completely random-ized design. Treatments of Experiment I were 2,4-D concentrations (0, 1, 2, and 3 mg/l) with and without 250 mg/l of casein hydrolysate, while those of Experiment II were combinations of those two chemicals, 2,4-D concentrations (1, 2, and 3 mg/l) with and without 250 mg/l of casein hydrolysate. Treatments of Experiment III were BA concentrations (1 mg/l and 2.5 mg/l). Results of the experiments showed that the best callus induction was achieved using MS media containing 3 mg/l 2,4-D, and callus induction was not significantly affected by casein hidrolysates. Concentrations of 2,4-D did not significantly influence em-bryogenic callus proliferation. The best shoot proliferation was attained in MS media containing 2.5 mg/l. Keywords: Benzyladenine (BA), 2,4-D, Casein Hydrolisate, sugarcane, and culture in vitro.

Abstract

One of the major constraints in Jatropha oil production is asynchronous fruit ripening, hence harvesting needs to be carried out accordingly which lead to drudgery. Therefore, an experimental study on the use of plant growth regulators was designed to induce synchronous fruits ripening. The study was conducted at the Jatropha Indocement Tbk PT Citeurep from January-June 2010. Test seed vi-ability and vigor was conducted in greenhouse Leuwikopo Experimental Garden, Bogor Dramaga. While the oil content test was conducted in the Department of Industrial Technology Testing Laboratory of Agricultural IPB. This research was conducted in two phases. In the first stage used factorial randomized block design. The first factor is the dose etephon 200,400,600,800, 1000 and 1200 ppm while the second factor is the time of application etephon ie 40 and 45 days after anthesis. The second phase also uses a factorial randomized block design. The first factor is the dose etephon 0,100,200, 300 and 400 ppm, while the second factor is the time of application ie 40 and 45 days after anthesis. Application of etephon at 200 ppm on 40 day after anthe-sis shorten the fruit maturation hence more synchronous fruit ripening in rainy season, but not in dry season when fruits ripened synchronously. The quality of the seed and kernel were not affected by etephon application.  Keywords: Jatropha curcas, growth regulator, etephon, simultaneity of fruit maturity

Abstract

Traditional field crop systems are practiced in both shifting cultivation systems and settled cultivation system. Traditional upland cropping systems play an important role in the production and food security of farmers. Transformation of the settled cultivation systems and plantations from the system of collecting forest products and shifting cultivation in Indonesia is discussed in this review. Futhermore we discuss ethno-agronomy of several traditional staple crop including sago, sweet potato, yam, taro, foxtail millet, and Coix lacryma-jobi.Keywords: Coix lacryma-jobi, foxtail millet, sago, sweet potato, yam, taro, shifting cultivation

Abstract

The objective of this research was to estimated heritability and variability of agronomic characters and yield evaluation on F4 generations of pepper. This research was conducted at Ciampea, Bogor. The experimental design used was arranged in Augmented Designs. Plant materials were 41 F4 genotypes and 2 check varieties. The result indicated that the character of plant height, dichotomus height, stem diameter, yield per plant, fruit per plant, fruit length, fruit diameter, and fruit flesh thickness had broad genetic variability and high broad-sense heritability. The character of time of flowering, time of harvest and fruit weight had narrow genetic variability and low to medium broad-sense heritability. There were 7 selected genotypes: CCA 5511-6-3, CCA 5511-6-2, CCA 5708-1-1, CCA 5520-2-1, CCA 5511-3-1, CCA 5511-8-3, and CCA 5511-2-1

Abstract

Water management in rainfed drylands are very important to consider. Limited water on dry land can be anticipated with rain harvesting technologies such as by making the trench. To further optimize land with soil moisture, maize intercropping with mungbean. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of trench system with intercropping maize with mungbean. The research was conducted in Village of Wareng, sub District of Wonosari District of Gunungkidul Province of D.I. Yogyakarta, during November 2010 until February 2011. This study was designed using the Randomized Split Plot. The main plot is a trench system consists of three types: Without a trench (Control, P0), the Trench (P1), the Trenches+organic material (P2). Subplot is the cropping pattern consists of two types: Corn monoculture (J) and mungbean intercropping maize (J + H). Maize tested were Bima-2 Bantimurung varieties most resistant to drought conditions based on previous research. The results showed that the combination of trench + organic materials and intercropping patterns can increase maize leaf area index about 40%. The yield obtained maize intercropped with mungbean on the treatment of trench + organic materials with about 6.258 ton ha-1 of corn and 0.418 ton ha-1 of mungbean while in the trench treatment without organic material 4.829 t.ha-1 of corn and mungbean 0.369 ton ha-1. Efficiency of water use in intercropping maize and mungbean increased about 60.8%; Intercropping maize and mungbean in the treatment of trench + organic materials and trench without organic material increased the land equal ratio about 76.05% and 40.70% respectively. Key words: trench, intercropping, maize, mungbean, dryland.

Abstract

In vitro study was carried out to test the effectiveness of the formulation containing Burkholderia cepacia isolates E76 in suppressing growth of Rhizoctonia solani and its effect on plant growth. The study was conducted at Plant Disease Laboratory, Indonesian Center for Agricultural Biotechnology and Genetic Resources Research and Development Bogor, in January to July 2012. The in vitro method was done by growing the bacteria B. cepacia isolates E76 together with R. solani in one dish of potato dextrose agar (PDA) medium. Seed of ?Ciherang? rice was treated with formulation of B. cepacia isolates E76. Observation were done to relative inhibitory rate, rice germination, shoot length, and root length. Results showed that B. cepacia isolates E76 formulation was effective in suppressing the growth of R. solani with relative inhibitory rate at 24 and 48 hour after incubation, respectively 31,3 ? 60,2% and 28,9 ? 47,8%. Rice germination and growth on treated rice seeds were better than control treatment. Concentration at 3% concentration was suggested to be used as recommended concentration for further testing. Key words: Formulation, Burkholderia cepacia isolat E76, Rhizoctonia solani

Abstract

The problem in patchouli plant cultivation is the reduction of soil?s fertility level which effects on the decreasing of plant growth and yield.  Application of cattle manure is a key to increase the soil?s productivity. The objective of this research is to study the effect of application method and cattle manure dosage on plant growth and yield of patchouli plant. This research was conducted at Lampung Agriculture Polytechnic research?s field in Hajimena Bandar Lampung from December 2010 to March 2011. The experiment was factorial designed (2 X 4 factors) with randomized completely block design with three replications. The first factor was manure cattle application method: spreaded on soil surface or mixed with top soil. The second factor was manure cattle dosage, consist of 0, 10, 20, and 30 ton/ha.  Result showed that (1) the application of manure cattle increased the growth and yield of patchouli plant; the increasing of the dosage would increase plant growth and yield of patchouli plant, (2) Patchouli plant which applied with cattle manure that mixed with top soil has longer primary root, (3) There is no interaction effect between application method and manure cattle dosage on plant growth and yield of patchouli plant.  Key words: application method, cattle manure, growth, yield, Pogostemon cablin

Abstract

Studi ini telah dilakukan pada laboratorium kultur jaringan, Balai Penelitian Tanaman Hias Pacet ? Cianjur sejak bulan Februari hingga Oktober 2008. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengoptimalisasi media terseleksi dalam induksi pembentukan kalus, mengungkap asal-usul sel yang membentuk kalus hasil kultur anther dan proses pembentukan tunasnya. Media terseleksi yang diperbaiki adalah 1) MMS-TBN yang mengandung 0,5 mg/l TDZ, 1,0 mg/l BAP dan 0,01 mg/l NAA (Medium Winarto, WM) dan 2) MMS III yang ditambah dengan 1,5 mg/l TDZ, 0,75 mg/l BAP dan 0,02 mg/l NAA (Medium Winarto dan Rachmawati, WRM). Perlakuan perbaikan dilakukan melalui pembuangan dan penambahan 2,4- D pada konsentrasi 0.5 mg/l dan penurunan kekuatan medium dari kekuatan penuh, setengah, seperempat, seperdelapan, seperenambelas dan nol. Percobaan faktorial disusun menggunakan rancangan acak kelompok dengan empat kali ulangan. Hasil studi ini menunjukkan bahwa induksi kalus tertinggi secara jelas ditemukan pada WRM. Medium ini mampu menginduksi potensi tumbuh anther (PGA) hingga 81% dengan persentase regenerasi anther 49% dan 2.7 kalus per ulangan. Peningkatan yang nyata juga dicatat melalui perlakuan reduksi kekuatan medium dengan seperdelapan kekuatan medium WRM sebagai penurunan kekuatan yang terbaik. Perlakuan ini mampu menstimulasi PGA hingga 58% dengan 29% PAR dan 1.8 NCF. Dari studi histologi diketahui bahwa kalus hasil kultur anther berasal dari sel-sel dinding anther. Kapasitas morfogenesis yang tinggi dari sel-sel dinding anther inilah yang menyebabkan tidak adanya efek androgenesis pada sel-sel mikrospora yang ada didalamnya Kata-kata kunci: Perbaikan, media, kalus, anther, histology dan anthurium

Abstract

The research was conducted in Green House of Agricultural Faculty Jenderal Soedirman University Karangwangkal Village, North Purwokerto Subdistrict, Banyumas Regency. The research was performed at December 2007 until April 2008. Experimental design used was Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) that comprised of two factors that were nitrogen fertilization and lowland variety. Nitrogen fertilization comprised of fours level that were 0 kg N/ha (N0), 80 kg N/ha (N1), 160 kg N/ha (N2), 240 kg N/ha (N3), while tested lowland varieties comprised of 4 varieties that were : varieties of IR-66, Indragiri variety, Dusel variety and Padi Halus variety. Research result showed that there was difference of physiological characteristic in utilize nitrogen, difference of nitrogen use efficiency and difference of optimal dose in each tested variety. Nitrogen fertilization increase with increase of crown N absorption and grain N absorption. Highest to lowest nitrogen use efficiency that was IR-66 variety, Indragiri variety, Padi Halus variety and Dusel variety. Optimal dose of nitrogen fertilizer at IR-66 variety was 100 kg N/ha, Indragiri variety was 200 kg N/ha, Dusel variety was 83,3 kg N/ha and Padi Halus variety was 50 kg N/ha.Keywords : efficiency, nitrogen, variety, Inceptisol
