Abstract

Issues and topics concerning spirituality is not new in the social sphere. Many great thinkers in the fields of philosophy and theology have tried to excavate the richness of the topic. Though not new a topic, there are still various avenues in the sphere of spirituality that need to be examined and discovered through intellectual abstraction and practical observation; it is a topic that is ancient yet new, an idea suggesting a paradox of time and permanence. The relevance of spirituality cannot be contained in a specific era nor time frame or even in established social structures because it deals with people and their disposition toward life and a certain desire in their very being for transcendence. In other words, spirituality is all about a person?s attitude towards life and a quest for an existential meaning behind every experience that might be of unequalled value or significance. Hence, spirituality is not static but dynamic in its very being, for as long as man desires to go beyond his present state of being and moves into another manner of existence, spirituality is evident; it manifests itself in that affinity for self-transcendence. The term youth, alternatively, also speaks of a dynamic progressive or regressive movement of the self, outside of its present state of being. This study, therefore, is an attempt to phenomenologically interpret and appropriate the concept of spirituality as an unfolding of existence on the concept of youthfulness not just an ordinary process in the life of a person wherein one becomes open for self-improvement or self-transcendence

Abstract

The growth of informal settlements in the city of Cuidad Juarez have been part of the historical development of urbanization of the city. The sporadic rise in the disturbing trend was later grounded to halt by the agencies of government across the 3 tiers, namely, municipal, state, and federal. Outstandingly, the growth of the city of Cuidad Juarez and the existence of slums was largely pronounced by location and the neoliberalist ideology of the commodification of human needs. The rise of an informal settlement in recent times in the city, namely Estralla Sol del Poniente was basically due to the population growth in irregular settlements otherwise known as colonia which have prompted those living in precarious conditions to re-establish a habitat of their own. The living condition of characterizing a slum are poor public services such as water supply, sanitation, lack of electricity, among others. Through the methodology of qualitative research, the ethnography findings suggest that lack of trust in government agencies which also have reinforced social exclusion have further justified the construction of informal settlements. There is the need for the municipal authority of the border city to understand that the ripple effects of the immediate past have raised its ugly repercussions. The need to subjectively understand policies the effectiveness of land policies and all-inclusive urban housing, skill acquisitionand firm legislative and executive policy implementation would further control the rise of slums.

Abstract

Research on trafficking for prostitution in West Africa is focussed mostly on the experiences of women. When attention is directed to children, their voices are silent; and attention is placed on traffickers, therefore, downplaying the role of relatives in children?s movement from home. Moreover, when children are removed from trafficking, the usual path to re-integration is to unite them with their parents. Two issues drive this paper: if a parent that is implicated in the trafficking of their child for prostitution should be included in decision-making for reintegrating the child; and if a child understands their experience of trafficking to make informed decisions about moving on after trafficking. Based on this foundation, the paper explores one child?s journey from Nigeria to Burkina Faso for prostitution, with attention to the child?s perspectives on their journey and decisions for moving on after trafficking to inform the inclusion of children trafficked for prostitution in decisions about their reintegration.

Abstract

Blossoming territory is one of the efforts made by the government to improve the welfare of the community. This research is motivated by the high interest of the people and the People's Representative Council (PRC) to make their regional autonomous. On the other hand, according to the Ministry of the Interior of the New Autonomous Region, the results of the autonomous region still failed to develop. To see the welfare of the people in the region resulting from the autonomous, researchers tried to look at it based on the results of regional macro development. Therefore, a Regional Development Index (RDI) constructed, which uses the factor analysis weighting method. RDI can be used to see the achievements of the regional development in Indonesia by looking at the comparison of development outcomes. So that RDI can see the development performance of the new autonomous regency/city and see the comparison with the origin regency/city. Besides, researchers looked at the effect of the share of mining Regional-GDP, the share of agricultural Regional-GDP, the average length of school for workers (ALSW), the percentage of roads in a minimum good condition and the growth of regional original income (ROI) to development performance in the autonomous regency/city using the method of regression analysis with panel data. Based on the results obtained, development in the area of new autonomy is not much different from the development in the origin area. Also, the average length os school for workers (ALSW) and minimum road percentage both have positive and significant effects on RDI, while the share of agricultural GRDP has a negative and significant effect on RDI.
