Abstract

Nowadays stunting has become the most observed on nutrition issues by the Indonesian government because stunting does not only cause physical abnormalities but also cognitive impairment in todlers so that as adults they will have low productivity. The aim of this community service was to increase the knowledge of certain community groups (health nutrition cadres) in preventing stunting in todlers. With the process of diffusion of knowledge, it is expected that there will be improvement in behavior of the target audience in carrying out their duties as posyandu cadres. This community service agenda are implemented through two activities. By having lectures and QnA sessions. The second method namely “cerdas cermat” was used to assess whether the counseling material can be understood by the participants. A team answer correctly they will be given a "door prize". The implementation of community service in the form of health education targeting Posyandu cadres in Mondokan Subdistrict, Sragen has been successfully implemented. The cadres were very enthusiastic to participate in the activity. This was indicated by their active participation in asking questions during lectures. In addition, during the game "cerdas cermat" was held, cadres can successfully answer questions related to the material "prevention of stunting". This educational activity needs to be followed up by "training" and "assistance", because if it is only given lecturing once it was feared that cadres could nott apply their new knowledge well.

Abstract

Higher education student is known as agent of change that can play a significant role on the transformation of the social life of a society. However, the idealism of students is often hampered by the availability of funds. On the other hand, someone who works as a lecturer at a higher education has a responsibility to do the three pillars of higher education (Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi), one of which is to carry out community service activities. To carry out the community service, a lecturer has many opportunities to obtain funds from various funding bodies. This article discusses the community service activity that was done by implementing a synergy between a group of lecturers and students who are the members of the Food Science Technology Student Association (HIMAGHITA) Universitas Sebelas Maret in the Village of Koripan, Matesih Sub-district, Karanganyar Regency. The purpose of the community service activity is to introduce the processing technology of purple sweet potato and corn and to increase the knowledge of food industry management in the group of women farmers in the region. The community service activity included the introduction of flour-making technology, processing technology of purple sweet potato cookies and corn brownies. Based on the results of monitoring and evaluation, it can be concluded that the synergy of lecturers and students can effectively support the community service activity and the introduction of purple sweet potato and corn processing technology can be well-carried out. In addition, the knowledge of farmer women's groups on the management of home-scale food industry increased after this activity was carried out.

Abstract

Freshwater fish farming is one of the efforts made by the people of Sindumartani Village, Ngemplak Sub-district, Sleman Regency. The battle for water and land has made most people cultivate freshwater fish, especially tilapia. This makes fish products abundant. This condition is the initiative of the Mina Mandiri Women Farmer Group to process the fish production into several processed fish products such as fish chips and shredded fish. One of the obstacles faced in the effort to develop this processing business is that the group's performance has not been optimal due to a lack of knowledge about group business interests and how to create a solid group with good performance. This community service is carried out in order to solve these problems by conducting group dynamics training both in theory and practice. The group dynamics training that was carried out made women members of the Mina Mandiri Women Farmer Group understand the importance of group business, the factors that are the strengths and weaknesses of groups and working in groups (teamwork). The understanding and skills obtained from community service activities increase the group's performance. This can be seen from the increasing number of members who attend monthly meetings, the increasing frequency of production activities, the increasing types of processed fish products and the wider the marketing area.

Abstract

Breast cancer is the most common cancer found in women worldwide, including Indonesia. Breast cancer was the most second cancer-related death in Indonesia with 22,000 mortality cases in 2018. The high mortality rate is worsened by the fact that 80% breast cancer cases in Indonesia was detected when its already in advanced stage, so the morbidity and mortality rate will be high. In response to those problems, we held a community service activity which comprises counselling of breast self-examination (BSE) methods and free breast ultrasonography examination. Counselling was held to improve knowledge and awareness regarding breast cancer, whereas free breast ultrasonography examination was held to give access of one of breast cancer early detection method for community. We found 9 people (16.4% of all participants) who had breast lesion and 11 people (20.0% of all participants) who had lymph node involvement. The mean of age of the community service participants was 47.4 years old, so our community service program is right on the target, matching with the riskiest age group of breast cancer. Improving knowledge and awareness regarding the importance of early detection for breast cancer, then contributing to add breast ultrasonography examination data in Indonesia, especially at Solo, were the aim for this community service program.

Abstract

Research activity is a form of expert service by the Research Group (RG) of "Agricultural Development Based on Local Soil-Land Characteristics" to its partner of the Wonoagung Wonogiri Organic Agriculture Association (Perkumpulan Pertanian Organik Wonoagung Wonogiri, PPOWW). The provision of suitable land for plant growth by partner is a required aspect in the development of certain commodities. Expert services by the RG is involving the implementation of land suitability evaluation based on agroclimatic conditions. The objective of the activity is to provide data and information on land suitability levels for certain commodities based on climatic conditions. The area which became the object of this research activity is where the PPOWW partner is located; namely Sidoharjo Sub-district, Wonogiri Regency. The secondary data was obtained from relevant sources in the form of annual rainfall (mm year-1), annual average air temperature (°C) and annual average humidity (%). The method of agroclimate suitability evaluation was carried out by following the procedure from Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), by matching climatic conditions with plant growth requirements. Plant commodities that were evaluated for their suitability were durian, salak, mangosteen, apples and avocado. The results showed that durian is a suitable commodity (S1) with climatic conditions in Sidoharjo Sub-district. Salak and avocado are quite suitable commodities (S2). Meanwhile, mangosteen is a commodity which is moderately suitable (S3); whereas apple is a commodity that is not suitable (N). Durian, salak and avocado are commodities which have the potential to be developed by PPOWW in Sidoharjo Sub-district. The next stage of the evaluation implementation requires data and information on the suitability of soil conditions.
