Abstract

Land cover information are needed to support decision making process on natural resource management. Remote sensing has been provideingr a huge distribution of geographical land cover information on various spatial scales. Landsat 8 OLI can be used on various applications and researches, including on land cover classification. Parameters used on land cover identification can be extracted from Landsat 8 OLI (Operational Land Imager). The research tried to explore land cover classification in Kuningan District by using two different classification methods, visual and digital maximum likelihood using Landsat 8 OLI acquired on August 5th2014. The main objectives of the research were to develop land cover map and assess the result accuracy on both different methods used. Confusion matrix using Overall accuracy and Kappa value was used as a reference on defining the accuracy. As a result, visual interpretation identified 10 land cover classes with Overall accuracy of 94.02% and Kappa value of 0.93. While digital maximum likelihood identified 10 land cover classes with Overall accuracy of 93.17% and Kappa value of 0.92.

Abstract

Revenue is an important thing for farmers, because with the income the farmers can meet the needs of the household. The higher the income then the welfare of farmers will be improved. The purpose of this research is to identify the characteristics of farmers, analyze farmers' income and factors affecting the income level of rubber farmers in Sako Suban Village. The selection of villages was done purposively but the selection of respondents was conducted by accidental sampling. The data used in the primary data were collected by using interview method. Quantitative data processing used linear regression by using a significant level of 10%. The results of the research showed that the education of the farmers was low, the average age of the farmers was 46 years, and the majority of the farmers work as rubber farmers. Rubber contributed 63% to the total revenue and the rest comes from company laborers and loggers and average farmer incomes was IDR733.389/month. Variables that affect farmers' income are rubber prices, farmers groups, and farmers experience in rubber gardening. The variables that have no significant effect on farmers' income are the education of farmers, the labor in the family, and the land area.

Abstract

Maize (Zea mays L.) is one of the agricultural commodities used as food and has quite a lot of benefits. The highest Indonesian production data is found in East Java. Malang Regency is one of the highest maize-producing areas in East Java. However, the production and productivity of maize in Malang Regency has fluctuated. One of the causes of unstable maize production in Indonesia is climate change due to global warming. Climate change that affect the length of the rainy and dry season is change in rainfall patterns. The purpose of this research is evaluating whether climate change occurred in 1998-2017 in Malang Regency and to know the impact of climate change on the growing season and corn productivity in Malang Regency. The study was conducted from February to May 2018 in Donomulyo, Dau, and Kasembon sub-district, Malang Regency. The research was carried out by survey method using primary and secondary data. The results showed that the climate in the North Malang Regency had undergone a change, which was marked by the increase in rainfall and monthly temperature and changes in climate type, while in the South it was marked by the decrease in monthly rainfall, monthly rainy days, and temperatures. The elements of rainfall and rainy days do not affect maize productivity, while the temperature has a corelation and has a significant effect on the maize productivity. Temperature has a positive effect on maize productivity and a model of estimating the effect of temperature on productivity was obtained, namely Y = -38552+1836 X. The impact of climate change is the occurrence of a shift in the beginning of the rainy and the dry seasons which cause changes in the maize planting season. Abstract

Macroalgae is one of the marine biological resources that has a potential to be utilized further by humans. This research aims to study macroalgae diversity and utilization potency by humans in the coastal area of Tunda Island. The study was conducted at 4 stations using the belt transect method. Results of this study indicated that there were 15 species of macroalgae found that came from 3 macroalgae classes, they were chlorophyceae, phaeophyceae, and rhodophycea. Macroalgae species that are often found are Padina minor, Halimeda macroloba, and Gracilaria salicornia. The highest macroalgae diversity was found at station 3 with a value of 2.44. Based on the type of macroalgae found in the field there are several macroalgae species that can be utilized, and the lack of information causes the low macroalgae utilization by the local community. Abstract

Agarwood is a non-timber forest product having high economic value. However, its population in nature is getting decrease. An effort to reduce the agarwood hunting in the nature is agarwood cultivation. One of agarwood inoculation methods is simpori as a modification of inoculation method using Fusarium solani and porous nails. The present study aimed to determine the effect of F. solani dosage to the quantity and quality of Gyrinops versteegii agarwood using simpori. The simpori technique used completely randomized design with 3 treatments and 10 replications. The treatments were F. solani at a dosage of 3 mL/porous nail (P0), F. solani at a dosage of 9 mL/porous nail (P1), and F. solani at a dosage of 6 mL/porous nail (P2).  The result showed that both dimensions of agarwood formation and the agarwood produced at 7 months after the first inoculation in all treatments were not significant. The highest length and the highest depth of agarwood formation were shown by P1 (5.1 cm) and P0 (7 cm) treatments, respectively. The highest agarwood production was observed in P1 and P2 treatments (0.032%). The visual quality of agarwood based on SNI 7631:2011 equal to kemedangan TG.C. The agarwood quality based on sesquiterpenes and chromone derivatives contents was different in all treatments. P2 treatment showed the highest content of sesquiterpenes and chromone derivatives (17.5%). The difference of F. solani dosages produce agarwood with the same quantity but different in quality when harvest 7 month after the first inoculation. Abstract

The dairy farm in Indonesia are dominated by small-scale farms causing it is difficult to obtain access to market information and raises transaction costs in the provision of fodder, the production process and the sale of milk produced. However, transaction costs tend to be hidden and neglected by the farmer while it can affect the farm profit. The objective of this research was to analyze and calculate the transaction costs faced by dairy farmers, either explicit or implicit transaction costs, using Transaction Cost Analysis (TCA). This research was conducted at West Bandung District and classifying samples based on the scale and the membership in cooperative institutions. The explicit transaction cost include membership fee, the pulses, tips for paramedics, security costs, and sanitation cost of Cooperatives Service Location (TPK). The Implicit transaction cost include information cost due to the price differences of tofu and cassava pulp and the opportunity cost of time in obtaining of feed and marketing the milk. The implicit transaction costs that were payed by the farmer were higher than the explicit transaction cost. Information cost component had the highest proportion of total transaction cost with the percentage of 41.65% in cooperative members and 48.16% in non-cooperation members. The small-scale dairy farmers paid higher transaction cost because transaction cost was a fixed cost. Based on institutional, the transaction cost paid by the cooperation members was lower than that paid by the non-cooperation members even though the difference was not significant. The difference in transaction cost only IDR1.39/L for the farmer with ownership of 1-5 cows and IDR7.09/L for ownership of 6-10 cows.

Abstract

Indigofera zollingeriana is a bush type legume plant that grows well in full light but tolerant to shade conditions. Modification efforts of the environment with paranet shade treatment are the accurate approach. The objective of this research was to study the tolerance limit of I. zollingeriana plant at various shade levels. The study was conducted in October 2016-April 2017 at the Leuwikopo-IPB Bogor and used randomized block design with one shade factor (0, 40, 65, and 80%). The results of the measurement of microclimate with various shading levels showed that in the shade treatment 40%, the intensity of light decreased by 40% the temperature decreased by 6%, while the humidity increased by 10%. In the 65% shade, the light intensity decreased by 62%, the temperature decreased by 10%, while the humidity increased by 24%. In the 80% shade, the light intensity decreases 95%, the temperature decreases 13%, while the humidity increases 34%. The shade intensity has a real significant on decreasing stem diameter, number of branches, canopy dry weight, and roots. I. zollingeriana is rather tolerant of shade and it is able to adapt to shade up to 40%.

Abstract

Finance can be accessed from various financial providers, for instance finance from government. One of the financial forms provided by the government is in-kind finance such as seeds, fertilizer, and harvesting tools. The objective of this study was to analyze the relationship betwen agricultural production and in-kind finance from Indonesian government. The study was conducted from May to September 2017 using survey technique to collect data from 97 potato farmers in Garut District. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics technique and Ordinary Least Square regression. Results showed that in-kind finance from the government helped farmers in potato production. Farmers who had access to in-kind finance from the government had a higher potato production compared to farmers who did not have access to the in-kind finance.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effect of adding garlic and shrimp waste in the ration on the duck performance and lipid profile of yolk. The animals used were 36 ducklings of 19-week old that were randomly placed in 12 battery cages. The experimental design used in this study was a completely randomized design with four treatments and three replicates. The treatments were R0 (control) = Commercial ration, R1 = Commercial ration + 2% garlic, R2 = Commercial ration + 2% shrimp waste, and R3 = K + 1% garlic + 1% shrimp waste. The results showed that the addition of garlic or shrimp waste resulted in a higher egg production (P<0.05) than that of control group, but the combination of garlic and shrimp waste had no significant effect on egg productuon. The addition of garlic, shrimp waste, or a combination of garlic and shrimp waste increased yolk color score significantly (P<0.05). Giving garlic or shrimp waste, and combination of garlic and shrimp waste significantly (P<0.05) lowered the cholesterol content of the eggs compared to controls. The addition of shrimp waste increased the unsaturated fatty acids content of duck eggs, and at the same time increased saturated fatty acid content.

Abstract

Trichinellosis is a zoonotic disease caused by nematode of the genus Trichinella infection. Transmission of this disease in humans occurs because of eating meat, especially pork containing Trichinella spp. larvae in raw or undercooked conditions. Data on trichinellosis cases in humans and animals in Indonesia are still very limited. This study was carried out to identify the seroprevalence of Trichinella spp. in wild boar in Central Bengkulu District and the level of public knowledge about trichinellosis. Sampling method was used cross sectional method by taking blood serum sample from captured wild boar at TPH in Talang Boseng of Bengkulu Province. Result of serological test using indirect ELISA showed seroprevalence of trichinellosis was 68.2% of total 44 samples obtained. Seropositive results based on the sub-district of the wild boar captured were 12 of 18 (66.7%) in Pondok Kubang and 18 of 26 (69.2%) in Pondok Kelapa. All wild boar meat consumer respondents did not understand that consumption of wild boar meat could become the source of trichinellosis transmission.
