When the first time appeared in 1999, Marina Chimica Acta was introduced as trilingual journal meaning that we can accept to publish articles in any kind of three languages such as bahasa Indonesia, English, and French. Starting April 2017, however, the publication has been made in English only, no more in bahasa Indonesia nor in French. Currently, Marina Chimica Acta is an international medium and occasional reviews of the publications of original studies (research papers) and occasional reviews in the field of marine chemistry. The journal will endeavor to cover all aspects, from chemical processes to theoretical and experimental work, and by providing a central channel of communication, to speed the flow of information in rapidly expanding disciplines. Submitted paper should be written in English.

Abstract

Analysis of 14C on samples of coral reefs on the Samalona Spermonde Islands vessel through 14C activity measurements using the LSC (Liquid Scintillation Counting) method was carried out. The preparation sample is carried out physically and chemically. Preparation of coral reefs with chemicals using a mixture of 1N NaOH and 30% H2O2 processed with a mixture of 1% HClO4 and 30% H2O2 and finally with 10% HCl to produce a clean sample by adding a weight of 5.36%. Carbonate separation was carried out using KOH as a carbosorb to produce K2CO3 solution. The total carbon is determined by the titration method which produces a total carbon of 0.9984 g. Measurement of 14C activity is done using LSC Hidex 300 SL. Specific activities of coral reef samples obtained were 15.06 ± 3.3613 DPM/gC. Age of coral samples on the island of Samalona in the Spermonde Islands was 130,343 ± 18.4 years.

Abstract

Analisis  kandungan  logam berat  Pb  dan  Cd  pada  berbagai  ukuran  partikel  sedimen  di perairan  Pelabuhan  Poatere Makassar  telah  dilakukan.  Sampel  sedimen  diambil  dengan menggunakan pipa  polietilen  dengan  berbagai  kedalaman.  Sampel  diayak  menggunakan ayakan mekanik ukuran 1000, 250 dan 63 µm.  metode analisis  yang  digunakan adalah Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) yang sebelumnya didestruksi menggunakan Microwave dengan penambahan HNO3 pekat. Sebaran ukuran partikel pada sedimen permukaan pada perairan Pelabuhan Paotere yaitu untuk ukuran partikel 250 ? 1000,  63 ? 250 dan 63 µm berturut-turut adalah  36,04%; 29,51% dan 10,07%. Kandungan logam berat Pb dan Cd meningkat seiring semakin kecilnya ukuran partikel sedimen. Konsentrasi logam berat Pb dan Cd pada ukuran partikel > 250 ? 1000 masing-masing yaitu 42,63 dan 2,94 mg/kg, ukuran partikel  > 63 ? 250 yaitu 56,14 dan 2,95 mg/kg , ukuran partikel  < 63 yaitu 142,31 dan 4,31 mg/kg. Kandungan logam berat Pb dan Cd menurun sejalan dengan bertambahnya kedalaman sedimen. Kandungan logam berat Pb dan Cd pada kedalaman  0 - 10 cm masing-masing 82,43 dan 4,33 mg/kg, kedalaman 10 ? 20 cm yaitu 79,09 dan 3,05 mg/kg, dan kedalaman 20 ? 30 cm yaitu 74,59 dan 2,82 mg/kg.

Abstract

Research on the phenomenon of climate change on the region Makassar Strait waters that are part of the oceanographic activities that require observation of the sea surface temperature (SST), surface currents and ocean color imagery from satellite imagery. In this case, satellite remote sensing data using Aqua-Modis analyze both visually and raw-surface temperature parameter data in order to study a variety of other related phenomena that take place in the ocean. The existence of satellite imagery data for the observation of parameters and / or oceanographic phenomena will be more profitable in terms of time and cost and high accuracy. The purpose of this study was to review based on the description of the SST analysis using Aqua-Modis image data (non-commercial) and open source software in providing the information cepatdan applicable. Abstract

 Determination biomass and phenotypic analysis of microsymbionts sponge is a comprehensive effort to discover the specificity of the sponge, not only on the identification and characterization studies that have been growing. Research directed at diversification of knowledge of the functions and benefits of a sponge for the life and welfare of mankind. The purpose of this research is the analysis of biomass morphology and phenotype test microsymbionts sponge. Histomorfologi analysis method to determine the type, components and composition biomass. Isolates obtained by sponge microsymbiont isolation-purification followed by phenotypic analysis through Gram staining and biochemical tests. Histomorfologi analysis results obtained sponge species is Callyspongia sp. Components and composition consists of sponge biomass fraction skeleton (spicules and cell debris) reached 69.8 %, 18.8 % sponge cell fraction and 11.3 % bacterial pellet fraction. The results of the isolation-purification microsymbiont obtained two isolates. Staining test results both isolates are Gram-positive bacteria and biochemical tests is Bacillus subtilis isolates the spherical shape large size, beige and white, while the isolates two clustered colonies are bacillus flexus jagged shape elongated, white-purple color and a separate colony. Keywords: histomorfologi, phenotype, Callyspongia sp, biomass, microsymbiont, sponge

Abstract

Honey is a sweet liquid that comes from the nectar of plants that are processed by bee. The composition of minerals in honey is an important factor in determining the quality of honey because it can affect the properties of bio-chemical physics honey. This research investigated the essential minerals concentration (Cr, Zn, and Mn), as well as the properties of bio-chemical physics. Three samples were collected from different location in the district Kindang is, Kindang, Pattallassang and Oro Gading. Honey samples were analyzed for essential micro mineral Chromium, Zinc and Manganese by using instrument ICP-OES and also analyzed for common bio-physicochemical parameters like moisture content, acidity, ash, pH, conductivity, protein, fat, carbohydrate and calorie. Ranged concentration manganese content of honey from 0.05 to 0.07 mg/mL0,05-0,07 mg/mL and concentration of chromium ?0,1 ng/mL-0.22 mg/mL, whereas the concentration of zinc is below the limit detection tool that is ?0,1 ng/mL. The average value of the quality of honey Kindang districts is 19.69% water content, ash content of 0.26%; DHL 0.36 mS/cm; 22.06 acidity meq/kg; pH 4.43; protein of 7.19% (w/w); 0.1301% fat. Total carbohydrate is 72.55%; calories 320.3101 cal; and energy 1340.2289 KJ. The results of this study indicate that manganese has the highest concentration in all samples of honey and showed tah hhoney from Kindang district have the a good quality according to national  and international standar of honey

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the levels of nickel in bacterial symbionts of sponge, inside and outside of bacteria. Bacteria coccus and bacillus were isolated and identified from the sponge Xestospongia sp. The results of analysis using ICP-OES (Inductively Couple Plasma-Optical Emisión Spectrometry) showed that nickel metal content of bacterial symbionts Xestospongia sp sponge in outer island Barrang Lompo were : the initial isolates of 0.7073 ppm and 0.1860 ppm at the end of the isolates while nickel assays for bacterial part in the initial isolates was 0.8763 ppm and 0.2262 ppm at the end of the isolates.

Abstract

The study was conducted to find out the level of environmental awareness of the farmers, hospital and industrial workers at Tangail Sadar Upazila in Tangail District, Bangladesh. The study included a questionnaire survey on a total of 390 respondents including 130 farmers, 130 hospital workers and 130 industrial workers in relation to their perception and awareness about several global and local environmental issues. Among the respondents 48.4% farmers were illiterate while all of the hospital and industrial workers passed the minimum level of education i.e. primary level. Only 12.1% and 6.6% of the hospital and industrial workers, respectively, completed their graduation whereas no farmer was found who completed the graduation. The study showed that the extent of environmental awareness varies among people at different occupational levels. The level of environmental awareness among the hospital workers was quite satisfactory than other groups of respondents. Industrial workers have comparatively better idea as their level of education was quite better than the farmers. Moreover, 33.6%, 58.2% and 35.6% of the farmers, hospital and industrial workers, respectively, participated in different awareness rising programs. The result of the study depicted that the hospital workers are much more conscious about different environmental issues than the others as their educational background was comparatively higher and also as they have participated comparatively in large number of environmental programs.

Abstract

This study aims to identify volatile compounds that are characteristic of the honey of Terasa village of Sinjai regency of South Sulawesi, volatile honey extracted with n-hexane solvent then identified by Gas Chromatography Mass Spectroscopy (GCMS) method. The results obtained 59 volatile compounds derived from honey are grouped into compounds namely hydrocarbons, aldehydes, ketones, alcohols, esters, bensenoid and carboxylic acids. Abstract

The use of hydroxide compounds as CO2 absorbents for Measurement of Carbon-14 in Coral Reef Sample fromSpermonde Archipelago. This research aimed to determine the age of coral reef sample of Spermonde Archipelago by measuring the activity of carbon-14 using the method Liquid Scintillation Counting (LSC). The coral reef sample was collected in Langkai Island. The research was conducted by following steps of sample preparation, the CO2 absorption using the hydroxide solutions (KOH and NaOH). The measurement of the carbon-14 activities was performed using the Liquid Scintillation Counter (LSC) Hidex 300 SL. The research results indicated that the absorption capacities of KOH and NaOH were 0,450 and 0,425 mol CO2/mol hydroxide respectively. The specific activity of coral reef sample using absorbent KOH and NaOH were 14.51; and 14.57 DPM/g C, respectively.The age of coral reef sample, which was calculated based on the specific activity values using the absorbents KOH and NaOH were 436.13; and 403.61years, respectively.
