Abstract

Communication in the health sector plays an important role in the context of educating people and the society. Theemphasis is rely primarily on promoting health so that behavior changes occur. One of the example is a governmentprogram ?GEMARIKAN? which was designated to increase fish consumption in the community. Unfortunately, thetriumph upon this programme is overshadowed by the potential transmission of zoonotic infections of the nematodeworm named Anisakis spp. This worm can caused a potentially fatal and deadly disease called anisakiasis. This risk canbe reduced by re-conducting numerous education in the community regarding these parasites, their life cycles, its hostbehaviors and lifestyles that can facilitate transmission such as eating fish in raw conditions and the need of goodhandling practices of fish to avoid transmission to occur.

Abstract

Immune function will decrease with age. The weakening of immune system is known as immunosenescence.Macrophages that play a major role in carrying out innate and adaptive immune functions have potential to undergoaging (macrophaging). Some potential mechanisms that can affect the aging of macrophages include telomereshortening, oxidative damage and impaired DNA repair processes. The impact of macrophaging can be a decreasenumber of macrophages in bone marrow, changing cytokine secretion, decreasing class II MHC expression, changingmacrophages polarization, decreasing ability of phagocytosis, and decreasing ability of wound repair and tissueregeneration.

Abstract

Ascites is abnormal accumulation fluid in the peritoneal cavity. Many underlying disease can be responsiblefor causing ascites. Peritoneal fluid cytology remains the gold standard for detection of malignant cells inascites which is useful in determining staging, treatment and prognosis. This aim of this study is to describethe characteristic of the result ascitic cytology examination at Anatomical Pathology Department of ArifinAchmad Hospital Period January 2013 ? December 2018. This study reviewed the anatomy pathology data.A total of 171 cases consisted of 91.8% were females and males were 8.2%. The highest number caseswere in the age group of 41-50 years (26.9%). Most ascitic fluid came from Department of Obstetric andGynecology (81.9%). The more frequent clinical diagnosis were ovarian carcinoma (19.3%) and ovariancyst (18.7%). Most ascitic cytology examination results was positive cytology (64,9%). Adenocarcinomawas commonest positive cytology (46,2%).

Abstract

Allergic rhinitis should be considered as a serious condition because it can affect the quality of life of patients. In manycases, the most common allergen is house dust mites (HDM). The purpose of this study was to describe the density ofhouse dust mites as triggers of allergic rhinitis in Pekanbaru orphanage children. This is a descriptive study with across sectional approach. Data obtained from interviews using the modified International Study of Asthma and Allergiesof Childhood (ISAAC) questionnaire to know the allergic rhinitis status and examination of house dust samples toidentify HDM in the parasitology laboratory. Sampling was carried out in 4 orphanages Pekanbaru. Allergic rhinitissymptoms were experienced by 81.2% of children in the orphanages and HDM was found with the mean density 9.11/g of dust. HDM was found in all four orphanages and was found to have a high incidence of allergic rhinitis.

Abstract

Ischemic-reperfusion injury is defined by a condition of hypoperfusion in the spesific organ followed by reperfusion(reoxygenation) inducing tissue damage. Tissue damage produces reactive oxygen species (ROS) leading to oxidativestress condition. Oxidative stress mediate the lipid peroxidation reactions, harm the cell and finally facilitate the celldeath. The aim of this study was to evaluate the histopathologic feature of white rat?s pancreas post renal ischemiareperfusion. This study was an experimental laboratory research with post-test-only control group design including 20male white rats. Rats were divided into 5 groups, control, treatment 1 (45 minutes ischemia), treatment 2 (45 minutesischemia followed by 1 hour reperfusion), treatment 3 (45 minutes ischemia followed by 2 hours reperfusion) andtreatment 4 (45 minutes ischemia followed by24 hours reperfusion). We found the change of the histopathologicalcharacteristics of white rat?s pancreas in term of edema, leukocyte infiltration and vacuolization.

Abstract

Over the last few years, there has been a decrease in amount of effective antibiotics, coincide with the lack of newantibiotics relevant for the treatment of Gram negative multi-drug resistant organisms infections. This problem can beovercome by the assessment and re-introduction of old antibiotics such as fosfomycin. Fosfomycin is a broad spectrumantibiotic that is bactericidal. This study aimed to find out the sensitivity pattern of clinical isolate multi-drug resistantGram negative bacteria to fosfomycin with descriptive cross sectional method. The sample used in this study wasclinical isolates collection of Microbiology Laboratory Faculty of Medicine, University of Riau from Hospitals inPekanbaru. The result showedsensitivity to fosfomycin Escherichia coli producing ESBL (88%), Klebsiella pneumoniaeproducing ESBL (95%), Acinotobacter baumannii resistant meropenem (27%), Pseudomonas aeruginosa resistantmeropenem (36%) and K.pneumoniae resistant meropenem (70%). Fosfomycin can be used as alternative therapy forinfections caused by Gram-negative Multi-drug resistant organisms.

Abstract

Diagnosis of tuberculosis in HIV-Tuberculosis coinfected patients is difficult. Thorax x-ray is a primary tool to evaluatetuberculosis in HIV. The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to assess and compare various radiologicalpatterns of pulmonary tuberculosis in HIV patients with CD4 counts. This study conducted in Arifin Achmad HospitalRiau province from December 2016-December 2018 with 55 HIV-tuberculosis coinfected patients. WHO guidelineswere used for diagnosis of HIV and tuberculosis. 100% of the patients had sputum positive pulmonary tuberculosis, with higher incidence (83,6%) among CD4 less than 200 as compared to CD4 more than 200 (16,4%). Infiltration (32,7%)followed by normal (18,2%), and fibrosis (11%) seen with CD4 less than 200. Infiltration (9,2%) followed by normal(3,6%) and fibrosis (1,8%) with CD4 above 200. Mid and lower zone (50%) more commonly seen in CD4 < 200. Despitein CD4 >200 upper zones more commonly seen. Most lesions were found in mid zone of lung. There were significantdifferences in radiological patterns of pulmonary tuberculosis in HIV according to CD4 counts.
