Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever is caused by dengue virus and spread by Aedes aegypti as primarily vector. Preventingdengue virus transmission depends on control of the mosquito vectors. Kiffer lime is one of the potential plants as abotanical larvacidal. The aim of this study was to investigate kiffer lime larvacidal ability against Ae.aegypti larvaebased on LC50 and LC90 levels by probit analize. The design of this research was experimental including preliminarytest and final test. 525 samples of Ae.aegypti larvae instar III/IV were used in this study and divided in to six groupsof experiment. The result were from observation of the larvae mortalities within 24 hours. Assassement of larvacidalefficacy demonstrated that kiffer lime leaf were toxic against Ae.aegypti larvae. LC50 value is 4015,880 ppm and LC90value is 6961,822 ppm. Ethanol extract of kiffer lime leaf could be considered as a potentially alternative source forbotanical larvacides.

Abstract

Handwashing is an important thing to do and the most effective way in order to prevent nosocomial infection andinfection control. The most popular surgery?s handwashing is fuerbringer method. The purpose of this study was toknow the effectivity of hand washing from the nurses that work at central operation theather Arifin Achmad GeneralHospital Pekanbaru before and after washing hand with chlorhexidine gluconat antiseptic. This study method waslaboratoric descriptive with 22 samples which got from total sampling method. Bacterial was found from all sample.Bacterial which were found from the samples before hand washing were Coagulase negative staphylococci (CONS)(62.9%), Bacillus sp (20%), Metichillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) (11.4%) and Metichillin sensitiveStaphylococcus aureus (MSSA) (5.7%). Bacterial which found after doing hand wash were CONS (52.9%), Bacillussp (17.7%), Escherichia coli (8.8%), MRSA (11.8%), and MSSA (5.9%). The result of this bacterial colonizationarea showed the reduction of bacterial colonization after doing hand wash in 90.1% sample , which mostly reductionwas happen from II degree to I (36.4%).

Abstract

Introduction: Anxiety in children undergoing surgery is characterized by subjective feeling of tension, apprehension, nervousness and worry that may be expressed in various forms. Clonidine, an alpha 2-adrenoceptor agonist, has beenshown to be as a preanesthetic medication in childrens. The current study was designed to investigate the differencesof level sedation clonidine syrup and diazepam syrup as a premedicant in children. Methods: In a randomized, double-blind, controlled clinical trial, 40 children, aged 2-12 yr, undergoing electivesurgery received 2 micrograms/kg clonidine syrup or 0.4 mg/kg diazepam syrup orally. These agents were administered120 min before the estimated time of induction of general anesthesia and noted the children?s level of sedation. Thelevel of sedation were compared among the two groups. PASS <1 demanded rescue intravenous sedation.Result: Clonidine syrup 2 mcg/kgBB provided better quality of sedation after 60 min of premedicant but it wasn?tsignificant(1.8±0.92) and diazepam syrup (0.80±0.89; p>0.05) and number of patients with rescue intravenous diazepamacceptance were same both clonidine group compared to diazepam, there was no significant difference between twogroups, 10% of clonidine group patients, 10 % of diazepam group patients (p>0.05). No clinically significanthypotension or bradycardia was observed after preanesthetic medications of diazepam and clonidine syrup.Discussion: These data indicate that, even in pediatric surgery, the 2 micrograms/kg syrup clonidine is an effectivepremedication. However, the safety and optimal dose of clonidine in this setting remain to be determined.

Abstract

Mosquitoes act as vector of fatal diseases such as malaria and dengue hemorrhagic fever since a long time ago. Thruits biting, it can transfer diseases from one sick individu to another ?immunologically naïve? people. Biting patternsand host preference play an important role in transmission of disease. Those two might differ among species, evenbetween strain from different region. Geographic and some other enviromental play an important role on mosquitoes?sindividual ability. By knowing those factors will built better understanding on the role of mosquitoes on diseasetransmission

Abstract

Systemic lupus erythematosus often abbreviated to SLE or lupus, is a systemicautoimmune disease (or autoimmuneconnective tissue disease) that can affect any part ofthe body. As occurs in other autoimmune diseases, the immunesystem attacks the body?scells and tissue, resulting in inflammation and tissue damage. It is a type IIIhypersensitivityreaction caused by antibody-immune complex formation. Women with lupus are at risk for various complications ofpregnancy, and those with antiphospholipid antibodies may have an increased risk of miscarriage. Systemic lupuserythematosus increases the risk of spontaneous abortion, intrauterine fetal death, preeclampsia, intrauterine growthretardation, and preterm birth. The outcome for both mother and child is best when systemic lupus erythematosus hasbeen under good control for at least six months before pregnancy and when the kidney disease is in remission.

Abstract

Uninary tract infection (UTI) is a common health problem among the people in the world, including Indonesia.Approximately 80% of UTI in hospital are ascociated with urethral catheter used in hospitalized patients. The increaseof catheter- related UTI is olso followed by increase of antibiotic used. The diffrence in distribution of UTI causingbacteria and antibiotics resistance associated with cathetetization can change according to time and place. This stdyaims to find the pattern of antibiotic resistance in the urine of catheter related UTI patient. The research was done inDepartement of Internal Medicine RSUD arifin Achmad Pekanbaru. 31 samples were collected from hospitalizedpatient who used catheter at last 3 days and taken with indwelling catheter urine. Culture, colony count, colonyidentification and resistance test was performed by Kirby Bauer method. The result was interpretated based onClinical and Laboratory Standard Institude (CLSI). UTI found in 19 samples (61.29%), 9 samples founs no bacteria(29.03%) and Candida albicans on 3 samples (9.68%). UTI caused mostly by Gram-negative bacteria (57.89%),Gram- positive bacteria found in 42.11% of samples. The highest resistance (100%) was found on cefotaxim, cefriaxon, cefalexin and tertracyclin. The lowest resistance (73.68%) found on merofenem and co-trimoxazole.

Abstract

The tumor marker CA125 is one of the currently used biomarkers to detect ovarian cancer. The tumormarker CA125 also elevated in other diseases. Human epididymis protein 4 is used as a new biomarker forearly detection of ovarian cancer. Human epididymis protein 4 is increased in almost all patients withovarian cancer and increased only slightly at a fraction of other diseases. Human epididymis protein 4 hasa better effectiveness in detecting ovarian cancer when combined with CA125. From the study of literaturefound that the combination of HE4 and CA125 had a specificity of 96.3% and 92.9% sensitivity.
