Abstract

This research examines the effect of input price changes on firm survival. The increasing on import activities in the last decades indicates that manufacturing industry depends on imported raw material. It leads the industry extremely vulnerable to the global economic shocks. Some of the industries that depend on imported raw material is unlikely to survive in the crisis. Using firm level data from the Annual Survey of Manufacturers for the period 2008-2012 and probit estimation with price data of input as main variables, we find that change of input price significantly decreasing the probability of firm survival. Firm size and age as the main determinant of survival consistent with previous studies. DOI: 10.15408/sjie.v5i2.3236

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the role of income shocks, gender, and resource competition between siblings against the school's decision at the level of primary and senior secondary education during the economic crisis in Indonesia. Methods in this research were conducted in two phases, fixed effect and conditional logit. Results reveal that no evidence of households' transitory income affected children's education level, both for primary and senior secondary education. Meanwhile, compared to boys, girls have a higher probability of dropping out of school and have lower school enrollment rates in primary education. This paper indicated the existence of resource competition between the younger child and the older child for education, especially for senior secondary education.JEL Classification: I20, I24, I25, J16How to Cite:Kharisma, B., Hadiyanto, F., & Remi, S. Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the efficiency of government spending in the health sector of West Java province in improving public health as measured by indicators of health status that is Infant Mortality Rate, Mother Mortality Rate, and Life Expectancy Rate in all regencies / cities in West Java Province. DEA method used to achieve these goals. DEA works with measures to identify the units to be evaluated, the input and output of the unit. Furthermore, the calculated value of productivity and identify the unit which does not use inputs efficiently or effectively produces no output. Research indicates that although every region in the province of West Java there is an increase in the health budget annually will produce additional output (facilities and health services) are few and have not been up to meet basic health needs for the community. Budget areas that have not been efficient is because of Rp. 421.8 billion total health budget of the province of West Java is not entirely used for the procurement of facilities and health services. Only 50% of it is Rp. 213 billion to be used one of them in the provision of health facilities and servicesDOI: 10.15408/sjie.v4i2.2302

Abstract

This paper investigates the determinants of foreign direct investment (FDI) inflow, focusing on the effect of labor productivity in the Indonesian manufacturing sector. Indonesia has the advantage of abundant labor supply in attracting FDI to bring positive externalities to its economy. Based on this background, this paper is aimed to study and to improve FDI inflow through a random effect analysis of 19 manufacturing industries from 2001 to 2014. The empirical result shows that labor productivity, wages, and export have become significant factors that attract FDI. FDI inflow in this sector tends to target non-labor industries. For the labor-intensive industries, the primary strategy is to increase labor quality through improvement in education, training, internship program, and worker certification. Improving research and development climate, and maintaining the quality of labor through health and social protection regulation can attain improvement in non-labor intensive industries.

Abstract

The objectives of this study are to observe interest rate response because shock/innovation of inflation and output gap. The data sample used in this study are quarterly time series data from 1983.1 ? 2008.4. Those data are SBI interest rate, inflation (CPI) and output gap. A method of analysis in this study is Vector Error Correction Model (VECM). The empirical results of impulse response show that the effect of inflation and output gap shock to interest rate is positifDOI: 10.15408/sjie.v1i2.2601

Abstract

This study empirically explores the factors motivating Muzakki (zakat payers) to pay zakat at the Baitul Mal Aceh, Indonesia. The factors motivating Muzakki to pay zakat investigated in the study comprises culture, regulation, motivation, and Muzakki understanding on zakat. 600 questionnaires were disseminated to the respondents, which were selected based on the convenience sampling technique. Then, the data were analysed using a binary logistic regression. The results of this study showed that culture, regulation, motivation, and understanding of the Muzakki on zakat significantly and positively affected the decision of Muzakki to pay their zakat at the Baitul Mal Aceh. This study implies that in order Muzakki to pay their zakat at the Baitul Mal, Islamic cultures should be preserved among Achenese, government should enhance regulation pertaining zakat management and the people of Aceh need to be equipped with the relevant knowledge on the obligation of zakat payment. Abstract

The aim of this research is to acknowledge the influence of capital, worker, educational level and technology toward the production output. The data applied is a particular primary data within the data accumulation method of questionnaire consists of 7 question items. This re   search is a certain population research contains of 60 respondents (business units). The method applied is OLS (Ordinary Least Square) method by applying classic assumption test and statistic test to examine the influence of independent variable to dependent one. The result obtained shows that the educational level does not have significant influence towards the production output, whereas the three other variables, which are: capital, workers, and technology does positively and significantly influence the production output. The most production factors which influence the output is the worker. Economical scale condition shows the increasing return to scale condition so that the production output still able to be increased further by increasing the input.DOI: 10.15408/sjie.v3i1.2056

Abstract

Micro-loans intended to improve household economies are a fascinating subject for research because a comparative analysis of before and after taking micro-loans would result in a bias selection. Households have different prior conditions from one another, so the difference found during the study is not entirely due to receiving micro-loans. There is a risk of moral hazard risk due to asymmetric information. This research adopts the double difference (DD) fixed effects method to estimate the extent of micro-loans? impact. Results indicate that micro-loans are significantly influencing the household economies. The impact size was relatively small that it was not apparent during regression. As an implication, micro-loans intended for productive purposes can help improve household economic conditions. Effective and sustainable monitoring and counsel can minimize the risk of moral hazard.DOI: 10.15408/sjie.v7i1.5954

Abstract

The paper empirically examines the dynamic interaction between Islamic banking development, capital market, trade activities, inflation and economic growth in Indonesia using battery of time series techniques. The study documents a long-run equilibrium between Islamic banking, capital market, trade activities, inflation and economic growth. Granger causality test reveals that there is a bidirectional causality between Islamic banking-growth in Indonesia, the finding accords with ?the feedback hypothesis? or bidirectional causality view?. Based on the VDCs, the study discovers that the variations in the economic growth rely very much on its own innovation. The finding also shows that Islamic banking financing innovation significantly explains the variation in economic growth. To further promote contributions of Islamic banking to economic growth, the authority should provide friendly policies to accelerate its development in the countryDOI: 10.15408/sjie.v2i1.2372
