Abstract

This study was aimed at determining the effect of Coleus tuberosus containing resistant starch type 3 on the hypercholesterolemia suffering animals. The research method used was lipid pro? le analysis on experimental animals suffering from hypercholesterolemia. The results showed that the consumption of Coleus tuberosus crackers containing resistant starch type 3 as a raw material for making crackers is able to decrease the lipid pro? le (total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL) and increase the HDL level.

Abstract

The study was aimed at ? nding out the abundance of aquatic weeds in Rowo Jombor, the population of Aedes spp live in aquatic weed area, and the distribution pattern of dengue fever disease related to the population of aquatic weed and Aedes spp. Field survey was conducted for two months to collect the weed population data, mosquito larvae density, and environmental sanitation condition of the villages around Rowo Jombor. The study used quantitative descriptive analysis to see the correlation among weed density, Aedes spp population. The interview was conducted to make its distribution pattern.The results show that: (1) the density of aquatic weeds in Rowo Jombor was dominated by Eichornia crassipes mainly on Location V near he outlet, while the Location III which was located in the center of the swamp, the aquatic weed was not found; (2) the larvae of Aedes spp population which lived in aquatic weed area was not found; and (3) the result could not prove the relationship between the pattern of dengue fever disease distribution and the aquatic weeds in Rowo Jombor as the habitat for mosquito larvae of Aedes spp.

Abstract

This study was aimed at determining the optimal conditions of lead sensor in the development of ion lead sensor to perform the optimization of several parameters such as the number of ionophores and membrane thickness. In this study, a lead sensor based on lead selective electrode was developed. The electrode was modi? ed by adding lead sul? de in chitosan membran as an active agent (ionophores) and superimposed on the surface of SPCE. The amounts of PbS added in chitosan solution were 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, 2%, and 2.5% (w/v). The thickness of membrane used were 15 µm, 20 µm, 45 µm, and 75 µm. The sensors were tested in  standard solution at concentration 10 -8  M to 10  M and at pH 2, 3, 4, and 5. Lead sensor has optimum performance on PbS 1.5%, thickness of membrane on 15 µm and pH 4. The Nernst factor obtained was 23.45 mV/decade with the solution concentration range 0.032 ppm to 0.322 ppm.-1

Abstract

This study was aimed at: (1) determining the reduction of noice pollution after using extra muf? er, (2) calculating the reduction of air pollution after using heater reactor. The both of the research is conducted in automotive-mechanical engineering laboratory. This study was used experimental method. The instruments used in this study were: (1) gas analyzer and smoke tester, (2) digital thermometer, and (3) sound level meter. The results show that the use of extra muf? er in the automotive-mechanical engineering laboratory of State University of Semarang is able to decrease of sound power of 9.46 percent. The mean of sound level before using extra muf? er was 69.58dB, while the magnitude of the mean level after using extra muf? er is 63 dB. Electrical heater as a thermal reactor is able to reduct CO level of 1.888 percent and HC level of 262 percent in the exhaust gas. The measurement of CO level of exhaust gas emission before using the reactor was 1.888 percent and HC level of 262 ppm, while CO level and HC level after using the reactor is 1.521 percent and 237 ppm.

Abstract

Chalcone derivate compound [3-(4?-hydroxy-3?-methoxyphenyl) -1-phenyl-2- propene-1-on)] or para hydroxyl meta methoxy chalcone (pHmMC) has been observed. It showed that it is able to induce apoptosis (cell death) in MCF-7 breast cancer cell. This study was aimed at ? nding out the apoptosis mechanism pathway of pHmMC on MCF-7 cells by observing its effect on Bcl-2 and Bax proteins. The protein expression was observed by using immunocytochemistry (ICC) and analyzed using ImageJ software. The results showed that the pHmMC induce apoptosis through mechanism that decrease expression of Bcl-2 and increase expresion of Bax proteins.

Abstract

Microtremor signal measurements had been conducted in the northern part of Kulonprogro to obtain the seismic characteristics in the form of: the predominant frequency value, ampli? cation factor, sediment thickness, seismic vulnerability index, the maximum ground vibration acceleration, and the ground shear strain value. The measurement was conducted at 18 points within geographical coordinates of 110.10° E-110.27° E and 7.64° S-7.80° S. The signals were analyzed using Horizontal to Vertical Spectral Ratio (HVSR) method. The results show that the predominant frequency value is in the range of 2.98-13.53 Hz; ampli? cation factor is in the range of 1.6-10.1; sediment thickness is in the range of 5-60 m; seismic vulnerability index is in the range of 0.6 × 10 -6-5.8 × 10 -6 s /cm; maximum ground acceleration is in the range of 24-54 gal and ground shear strain value is in the range of 0.6 × 10 -4  ? 4.4 × 10 -4.

Abstract

This study was aimed at determining the results of radioisotope product in particular radioisotope of ? uorine-18 at 13 MeV proton cyclotron facility. The calculation used a formulae of thick target yield on the nuclear reaction of 18 O(p,n) 18 F. This calculation is intended to ensure that the formulae and parameters used quite feasible for commissioning DECY-13 cyclotron. The calculation result has been compared with the radioisotope results of the cyclotrons in Dharmais and MRCCC Jakarta hospitals as well as the standards of the IAEA. The difference of results of calculation with comparison data is not more than 5%, which means that the calculation formulae is quite feasible for cyclotron commissioning. The calculation of ? uorine-18 product using the formulae is 1223 mCi at 30 uA proton beam current of cyclotron operation and 40 minutes of irradiation.
