Abstract

Banana peel production increases every year, but the utilization of banana peels is not optimal yet. Banana peel contains cellulose which can be used to absorb pollutants including heavy metals. The purpose of this research was to determine the best thickness of the activated carbon of banana peel in filtration system of tilapia (Oreochromis  niloticus) culture. This research used the Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications. Treatment were differences thickness of activated carbon of banana peel i.e (P1) control, (P2) thickness of 5 cm (P3) thickness of 10 cm, (P4) thickness of 15 cm. The results showed that the most efficient treatment was P3 in 30 days cultivation with pH 7.0, temperature 28.6 oC, dissolved oxygen 4.10 mgL-1, ammonia 0.09 mgL-1, turbidity 42.65 mgL-1, Zn 0.03 mgL-1, Fe 0.29 mgL-1, 86% of survival rate, 2.53 cm of absolute length growth, 3.33 gram of absolute weight growth and 72.92% of feed efficiency.

Abstract

Masculinization is one method of sex reversal technique that can direct the sex of fish. The aim of this research is to know the effect of different concentration ofcoconut waterto percentage of male guppy fish through immersion method.This research was conducted in August - October 2018 at Fisheries Basic Laboratory, Program Study of Aquaculture, Sriwijaya University. This research used completely randomized design (CRD) with four treatments and three replications i.e without coconut water (P0), coconut water 20%(P1), coconut water 30% (P2) and coconut water 40% (P3). The observed parameters were the percentage of male guppy, survival rate and water quality (temperature, pH, ammonia and dissolved oxigen). The result showed the percentage of male guppy was 46.66 % (P0), 70.00 % (P1), 80.00 % (P2) and 83.33 % (P3). Water  quality during maintenance were temperature 20.1 ? 28.9 0C, pH 6.5 ? 7.2, DO 3 ? 6.8 mg/L, and ammonia 0.01 ? 0.09 mg/L.  Masculinization is one method of sex reversal technique that can direct the sex of fish. Abstract

Ikan Bawal Bintang merupakan salah satu jenis ikan yang memiliki nilai ekonomis tinggi. Budidaya ikan Bawal Bintang tidak terlepas dari adanya serangan penyakit yang dapat mengganggu hasil produksi. Penyakit terdiri dari dua yaitu non-infeksius dan infeksius. Penyakit non-infeksius diantaranya disebabkan karena lingkungan, pakan, genetik dan tumor. Penyakit infeksius disebabkan oleh mikroorganisme, seperti virus, bakteri, jamur dan parasit. Pengambilan data dilakukan dengan cara observasi.Sampel kemudian diamati secara visual dan diperiksa dengan metode natif yaitu scrapping pada permukaan tubuh dan filament insang. Jenis ektoparasit dan prevalensi ikan Bawal Bintang setelah dilakukan pemeriksaan dengan cara scrapping adalah Trichodina sp. 100%, Apiosoma sp. 30%, Vorticella sp. 25% dan Chilodonella sp. 10%. Intensitas parasit pada ikan Bawal Bintang adalah Trichodina sp. 48,3 individu /ekor, Apiosoma sp. 69,5 individu /ekor, Vorticella sp. 14,2 ind/ekor dan Chilodonella sp. 1 individu/ekor.

Abstract

Aquaculture sometimes only depends on water absorption without water exchange therefore the accumulation of organic material give impact on water quality in aquaculture and cause illness and death of fish. Fungi have many variations in water that can be selected by isolation and identification to maintain water quality swamp cultured. This research aims to get swamp fungi isolates as candidate bioremediator of swamp water contaminated with organic matter. Research was conducted from December 2016 to April 2017 in Laboratory of Microbiology, Department of Biology, Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Sriwijaya University and Basic Laboratory of Fisheries, Department of Aquaculture, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sriwijaya. The methods of research started from isolation and selection of fungi, analysis of isolates capability to improve the quality of black water, and observations of swamp water quality.This research method started from isolation and selection lipolytic, cellulolytic, proteolytic fungi, the test isolates ability to improve swamp water quality and observation of water swamp quality. Monitoring  of  water  quality done  at  the sampling time, beginning and end of the research, including pH, temperature, ammonia and TDS. The results showed that the best fungi growth rate in contaminated swamp water of organic matter was 93%.day-1. Fungi isolates are able to play a role in the ammonification of bioremediation process.

Abstract

The thyroxine has been known as a hormone that can increase fish growth especially in the larvae stage. The provision of hormone thyroxine on larvae fish can be conducted through dipping. Determination of dipping time are very important to increase growth. The purposes of this research are determining the optimum dipping time for the growth and survival rate of snakehead larvae. This research was done at Laboratorium Dasar Perikanan, Aquaculture, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sriwijaya, Indralaya. The method used Competely Randomized Design (RAL) with five treatments and three replicates, with dipping time are 24, 27, 30, 33 and 36 hours. The parameters observed are the absolute length growth, absolute weight growth, survival rate of larvae and water quality (temperature, pH and disolved oxygen). The results showed that the duration of immersion in thyroxine hormone solution in snakehead larvae showed relatively faster growth on treatment (P5) with 36 hours of dipping time. While the regression test result showed the optimal growth of snakehead larvae at the time immersion for 27,92 ? 29,49 hours. Thyroxine hormone increased the growth of snakehead larvae but has no statistically significant effect. The length of time of thyroxine hormone 24-36 hours with a dosage of 0.1 mg l-1 did not affect the survival of snakehead larvae. Water quality of maintenance media is still tolerance for supporting the growth and survival of snakehead larvae.

Abstract

Ascorbic acid was one of the important nutrients for fish because it has the property as an antioxidant and imunomodulator that can improve the performance of fish. The purpose of this research is to support the production of snakehead fish (Channa striata) that have good growth and immunity. This research used a complete randomized design (CRD) consisted of 3 treatments and 3 replications. Ascorbic acid treatment consisted of P1 (0 mg.kg-1), P2 (50 mg.kg-1) and P3 (100 mg.kg-1). The results showed that the maintenance of snakehead fish (Channa striata) given ascorbic acid  with a doses of 100 mg.kg-1  for 30 days gave the best growth results and significantly different and absolute weight growth reached 1.83 g, absolute length of 18.7 mm and survival reached 95 , 83 %. For immunity performance, it can be seen from survival of fish exposed to salinity 20 ppt during 15 minute reach 73,3 % and formalin 10 % for 10 minute reach 66,7 % and disease prevalence percentage reach 16,7 %

Abstract

Inland swamp water has low pH value 3-4, there fore is not suitable for striped catfish culture. Liming is one of the efforts to increase the pH of water. This research aims to increase the swamp water pH for survival rate and grow of catfish. This research used a completely randomized design four treatments and three replications with doses of 0,6 kg.m-2 equvalent to CaCO3 (P1), 0,9 kg.m-2 equvalent to CaCO3 (P2), 1,2 kg.m-2 equvalent to CaCO3 (P3) and 1,5 kg.m-2 equvalent to CaCO3 (P4). The parameters are water quality (temperature, pH, DO, ammonia, alkalinity, and hardness), growth and survival rate of striped catfish. The result showed that (P2) was the best treatment for increasing swamp water pH from 3,6 to 7,57 and soil pH from 3,5 to 7,60, survival rate 86,7%, absolute growth length 4,35 and absolute growth weight 8,30 g and feed efficiency 73,53%.
