Abstract

Symptoms such as difficulty in feeding during the early life of a baby that might be caused by oral dysfunction will influence the physical, emotional, and social growth and development of the child. The reasons for oral dysfunction in infancy include prematurity, dysmaturity, mental retardation, or brain dysfunction_ An understanding of the mechanism of mature oral function and of normal oral function in infancy is necessary as a basis for the evaluation and treatment of babies with feeding problems. Physiotherapeutic management in cases of babies of age-range from 5 to 67 days with difficulty in feeding due to different causes has been presented. Key Words: oral dysfunction - infancy - feeding problems - growth and development - physiotherapy

Abstract

Key Words: holism - traditional medicine - modern medicine - concept of disease - traditional

Abstract

The mechanism of blindness by fundus anomalia was presented. The criteria of blindness were determined by visual acuity 3/60 or less. During a one-year period from januafy to December 1983 there were found 71 cases of blindness of both eyes and-78 cases of blindness of one eye. The kinds of blindness found at Dr. Sardjito Hospital were retinitis/choziorecinitis 27 patients, retinopathy 17 patients, glaucoma 69 patients, N 11 atrophy 16 patients, macula degeneration 2 patients, and retinal bleeding 2 patients, All the blindness were irreversible. Abstract

Key Words: Cnathostoma spinigerum - fresh-water fish - CNS-gnathostomiasis -myeloencephalitis - Nematoda

Abstract

The mortality of the premature babies in Indonesia is still high. The exact cause of death is still unknown, because necropsy and pathological examination of the whole placenta are very rarely carried out. Needle biopsy of the dead premature babies organ is expected to help in searching the cause of death. A retrospective study was performed to reevaluate the biopsied organs of the dead prema tures from October 1970 through September 1971 in the Department of Pathology, Gadjah Mada University. Yogyakarta. The result of this study shows that early neonatal death of premature babies is 80,6% of all premature death. Based on histopathological examination of lung biopsies of those dead premature babies, it is clear that atelectasis is the primary cause, congestion the second, and Hyaline Membrane Disease (HMD) the third. Biopsies of other organs could not determine the exact cause of premature deaths as yet. Key Words: premature baby - early neonatal death - needle biopsy - atelectasis - Hyaline Membrane Disease
