Abstract

The objective of the study is to get comprehemsive understanding of English reading instructional process which can increase English reading competence of Master program Faculty of Tarbiya and teachers training UIN  Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. The component of instruction consist of : instructional objective, form and function of text, instructional procedure,form and function of instructional activity,the role of student and teacher, and evaluation in reading instruction. This research is a qualitative study, it is done on may 2014, 2013-2014 academic year. The data is collected by using the techniques of  observation,interview ,and document analysis.The data is analyzed by taxonomy analysis and themes analysis. The result of the study is: English reading instruction in the master program Faculty of Tarbuya and teachers training UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta runs well .It can facilitate the students develop their reading competence according to their academic needs that is to understand English text which they need in academic situation.The competence can be possed by using many kinds of texts ,applying three reading procedures; pre reading,whilst reading,and post reading.These procedures facilitate the students to be able to use interactive process.

Abstract

Contemporary muslim thinker mostly from Islamic dicipline, but not for Muhammad Syahrur (here in after referred as: Syahrur) who interested in islamic issue without Islamic background, can offers many ideas in his book, al-Kitab wa al-Qur’an, this book is the first book published, “this book is contemporer reading of interpreting the holy book of the Qur’an” by analysis of the 20th century; which means that his opinion of the Qur’an must be interpreted according to the present methodology, Al -Quran is a revelation and guidance for mankind, so that the Quran can be understood as a whole for humans throughout the period naturally. From that then, the linguistic approach was used by Shahrur in digging up the secrets of His message. This research wants to explain format of Syahrur’s linguistic approach which related laws of verses of the Qur’an. Actually, discuss all his linguisticc approach are very interesting, but the writer just take the syntagmatic - paradigmatic analysis of the term al - istiqamah and al - Hanif. From this reasearch, there are two basic formulations problems, firstly how Shahrur analyze these two words by using syntagmatic - paradigmatic analysis and what advantages and disadvantages which offered Shahrur in this analysis. This reseach used library research models, and focus on analytical descriptions from his book by qualitative model.

Abstract

This paper explores what cultural cognition of ‘marriage’ is metaphorically conceptualized in Indonesian expressions. This paper has two questions. Firstly, what cultural cognitions of ‘marriage’ are encoded in the use of metaphorical expressions in Indonesian? Secondly, how such cultural cognition of ‘marriage’ is metaphorically conceptualized in Indonesian expressions? The analysis and discussion of this exploration basically follow (i) the principles of embodiment in Cognitive Linguistics and (ii) the logic of cultural conceptualization in Cultural Linguistics. Both serve as the primary bases to analyze the problem of the study. The paper is expected to contribute to the present linguistic study in two-fold benefits. Firstly, it presents the discussion of the cultural cognitions of marriage represented in Indonesian metaphorical expressions. Secondly, it discusses the methodological issues of (i) how to understand the relation between culture and language and (ii) how to uncover any cultural representations in linguistic metaphors.

Abstract

This research aims to identify how the prostitutes communicate to their clients in Surabaya. The data were obtained from the real communication occurring among the prostitutes’ and the clients. It was found that Indonesian language is dominantly used in the communication compared to Javanese language. This is due to the fact that Javanese language is more complicated having different speech levels based on the social status of the speakers. Furthermore, the research showed that the prostitutes tend to use euphemism in their service. The euphemism is part of the style of Javanese prostitutes performing indirectness as a part of Javanese culture.

Abstract

Language Interference to arabic language learners in Indonesia is a common phenomenon. Although the phenomenon is normal, but it is a problematic. Because each language has rules of each rule. It has been found forms of Indonesian interference into Arabic in the MAN Batus students. The purpose of this study was to analyze the forms of interference Indonesian into Arabic in the students MAN Batu, uncover the causes of interference Languages Indonesisa into Arabic in the MAN Batus students, and analyze solutions to the problem of interference Indonesian to Arabic in student writing MAN Batu. This study used a qualitative descriptive study, and the data collection with analysis of documentation and interviews. Source data is written documentation of students and teachers of Arabic. In this study, researcher found other forms of interference Indonesian into Arabic at the level of syntax, morphology and semantics. The causes interference Indonesian into Arabic in the MAN Batus students that there is a cause intralinguistics and causes interlinguistics. The solution to the problem of interference is tahlil taqobuli and plenty of exercise in the writing.

Abstract

religious lecture is the effective means of propaganda for direct interacting to the worshipers. Unfortunately, there are some lecturers who do not pay attention to the politeness principle in the preaching. One lecturer who often causes controversy is GN. GN lectures on several occasions, such as lectures in churches, sparked debate and a negative response from the other speaker. This research is to reveal the forms of principle courtesy violation in discourse. This research used descriptive qualitative research with discourse analysis approach. The analysis showed the forms of the offense of direct criticism (menohok hearer) with a word or phrase that is abusive, speech-driven sense of emotion, intent cornered hearer, the charges on the basis of suspicion, protective of opinions, attack the personal aspect, and the spread of hatred. The forms of violations that included part of the Approbation Maxim. It can be concluded that the conflict (linguistic and social) can be triggered by a lecture, disregarding the principle of modesty. Linguistic conflict, like debate between lecturers, would arise not because of the debate the substance of propaganda, but the attack triggered a personal aspect and spreading hatred. Conflicts are likely to occur when the violation of the principle of courtesy is still ongoing. The negative impact of the conflict would be stronger if it involves an object or group of people with different religious and ethnic.

Abstract

The study of Arabic syntax and the foundation is essentially in the Arab world there is a group that reconstruct the foundation in order to prepare syntactic and group developing pedagogical syntax essentially Arab and foundation combined with Western linguistics, but do not link it with language learning. This article would describe the concept of syntax as a basic foundation of Arabic linguistics epistemology that could be the basis of linguistic pedagogical education in Arabic. Furthermore, this article would identify its application in the preparation of teaching materials for students of pedagogical syntax Indonesia. While the study of Arabic syntax and essentially foundation in Indonesia, many educational institutions Arabic ignore their correlation. Based on linguistic approach to educational and library data analyzed by the text of discourse found that the basic foundation of Arabic syntax is the sama, qiyas, ijma, talil, tawil, istihsan amil and istishhab. The application of the basic foundation of syntax as the basis for the preparation of learning materials is a pedagogical syntactic analysis of the basic foundations of syntax in generating syntax, allowance rules of syntax, classification of syntactic descriptive elements, comparing element with Indonesian and Arabic syntax and arrrange the teaching materials.
