Abstract

This paper  deals with  a  chemical  analysis  of  six wood  species  obtained   from  industrial plantation Forest. The  analysis  comprises  of  the  determination    of  holocellulose.  lignin, pentosan,  moisture  content,   ash content, silica content  and  solubility  in cold water  hot  water,  sodium  hydroxide and ethanol  benzene   content. The result  shows  that  holocellulose  content  ranges  from  50.2  -   63.2 percent,    cellulose from  42.6  -   56.2 percent. The  high. celloluse content  are Dipterocarpus  haseltii,   Diryobalanops     lanceollata,  Shorea    and Agathis  ]orantifo1ia. Lignin   '(rom  .24. 7  -    3'2.4  percent,    pentosan   from   15.2  -    19.0  percent.   ash cotent  from   0. 4 - 1. 8 percent.   Silica content from 0.1 -    a. 2 percent,   moisture   content from    10.2 -   32.0 percent.   Solubility  in cold water  from  2. 0 - 5.1 percent,    hot  water  from  3.5 -   5.8 percent,  in one percent   sodium  hydroxide  from  12.9 -   17. 6 percent   and so lubility in  ethano1-benzene   (1:2)  from   5.2 - 13.2 percent.Based  on  chemical  analysis, especially  the  cellulose  contants  the ,six  wood species for  timber  estate  are suitable  as raw material  for pulp  and paper  industry.

Abstract

One of  the  partideboard  properties that  must be tested  is internal  bond  strength  or tensile  strength  perpendicular to surface. the  testing  procedure is relatively  difficult   because  before  applying  a tension  load vertically  to the  board  face, the  specimen  must   be  adhere  to  steel  or  wood   blocks  for  seuerol hours  to obtain  good  adhesion.  To  simplify   the pro- cedure, the  use  of  another   testing procedure called shear  strength   test  was tried.  It  is found   that  there  is  a relationship between   shear strength   (X)  and  internal  bond  strength   (Y)   which  can  be expressed   by   linear  regression  equations  i.e,: Y  = -  0.105  +  0.180   X  for  interior  particleboard  and  Y =  -  0.925  + 0.398  X  for  exterior  particleboard.   The  interior particleboard  specimens were  tested   under  dry   condition  whereas  exteriorparticleboard  specimem were boiled  for  two hours  before  testing.  Both regression equations can not  be pooled,  Based  on  the  result  it can be cohcluded  that  internal bond  strength   of  particleboard  can  be estimated by  using  its shear strength value.

Abstract

This research studied  the  fluizided bed gasification  process of wood  waste that could produce  highly yield  and good quality   of fuel gas.The processing  treatments  were conducted at 3 levels of  wood  feed flow  rate i.e 3. 6., 3.8 and 4.2  kgs/hour and 5 leveis  of air flow rate i.e  4.4,  4.7, 5.0,5.4 and 6.5  m3/hour.The  result  revaled that highest  caloriffic  value of produced gas was 7.106  MJ/m3   which  resulted  from  wood  feed and air  flow  rate  3. 6 kg/hour  and  4. 4  m3 /hour, respectively.  The product   gas composition  of  this  rate  was H2  = 5. 62 .CH = 3.99; CO=  11.77; C2H4 = 4.34;  C2H6 = 0.21; N2 = 57.69; 02 = 0.40 and C02 = 15. 71 (in  %  volume)The highest  total  energy  of product   gas was 20.36  MJ/m3  with fuel gas efficiency 26.16% which  resulted  from  feed and  air flow rote  4.2 kg/hour  and  6.5  m3/hour, respectively.  The product   gas composition at this rate  was H2  = 6.03; CH4  = 3.51;  CO=  12.60;  C2H4  = 2.46; C2H6  = 0.16; N2  = 57.23;  02  = 0.45  and C02   = 17.58,  while  the fluidued   bed gasification process  was held at 97oᵒC.

Abstract

The  purpose   of  this research  is to  identify   the  chemical  components  of  sandalwood  oil by using the Gas Chromato- graphy.   The  sandalwood   oil was obtained   by  steam  and  water distillation of  sandalwood  particles  which  are passina  and not  passing  through  a  40  mesh  screener,   each for  18  and  24 hours  distilling   times.  The  identification    of  the peak  of chemical  components   were  done   by  comparing. the  relatioe retention  time  of  the peak  of  chemical  components  to  that of  the  chemical  so.lution standard,  The peak  area of each chemical component  was calculated  .by  normalizaion  method.The  result  showed   that  the  distilling of  sandalwood  particles   not  passing  40  mesh  screener  for  18  and  24  hour distilling times  each produced   oils having as many  as 26 and 28 peaks of chemical  components  respect wely. On the other hand,   the particles  passing  40  mesh screener.   distilled  for  18 and 24  hours  exhibited as many  es 28 peaks.  Nevertheles. only  eight  chemical  components   could  be identified from  them,   they  are:  a-pinene limonene α.santalene  terpineol-4, ϐ-santalene  nerolido L   B-santaloL. and farnesol.   Teroineo 1-4.   nerolidol. B.santalol  and  farnesol camponents constituled the   sandalwood   oii:  Those  where  usually  categoried  as the  total  santalol.    The   sandalwood oil distilled  from   the  larger particles   not passing  40 mesh  screener  for  18  and  24  hour distilling  times contained  the  total santalol of  79. 81 a,nd  81. 45 percent,   respectively.  Furtheremore,     the particles  passing  40  mesh  screener  distilled for  18  and 24  hours produced  oil containing  81, 74 and 80.88  percent  of  total  santalol  for  each distilling  time.

Abstract

Survey  of  commercial  and  lesser known   wood  species  marketed   in Surabaya  has been conducted.   The survey  result  from  several  companies  shows  that  there  are 21  commercial  wood  species represented   by 10 families and 10 trade names.  The  trade name used in Surabaya  is similar to those  listed  in the official  Indonesian   Timber  nomen  clature. A  tentative  identification   key  of  the  above  wood  species  is presented   in this  paper.

Abstract

The purpose  of  this  research  is to study   the  physico    chemical properties  of oil produced   from hydrodistillation  of  massoi bark.  The  distillation period  were  varied  from   12  to 18,  2 4,  30,  and  30 and 36 hours,The result  indicates  that  distillation  r appears  to have highly significant ,  affect  on oil yield and acid number  as shown   by  linear regresison  of  respectively  Y =  2.132  +  0. 350 X  (r = 0. 943)   for  oil  yield   and  Y  =  3.598   + 0.219  X (r  =  0.977)  for  acid  number.  Besides  that  massoi   bark oil from  Maluku has higher eugenol  content composed   with  that from  lriqn  and  West Australia.

Abstract

The  experimental   study   on  briqueting   from   leaf waste  of  cayeput  oil distillation prepared   by using  the hydraulic press proess  is presented   in  this paper.   The  tapioca  flour   is used  as adhesive  with  five different  consentrations   i.e. 1 per cent,  1.5 percent,   2  percent,    3 percent   and 5 percent.   The  responses  evaluated  are the  moisture  content,  ash  content,  volatile  matter,  density,  crushing  strength  and calorific  value.  The result  shows  that  moisture  content  ranges  from  12,21-  12,86 percent,  ash  content   from   8, 02  -  8,85  percent,    volatile  matter  from  68,  08  -  69, 45 percent,    density   from 0,251 -  0,325 gr/cm3.  crushing sfrength  from  9,60 - 19,82  kg/cm2   and the calorific  value from  4326,46 -  4473.05  cal /gr.
