Abstract

This paper reports the result of an experiment on the treatment of different forestry wastes, i.e., the sawdust of Hevea brasiliensis Pinus merkusii, Paraserianthes falcataria and the leaves of melaleuca leucodendron with Schizophyllum commune Fr for 7 weeks.The purpose of this study is to assess the effect of white-rot fungi inoculation to the decrease of chemical components like cellulose, lignin and hemicellulose.the results reveal that after treating for 7 weeks, sengon sawdust still has a very .high cellullose content of 22.55% in rubber tree sawdust, lignin and hemicellulose contents are 32.66% and 47.39%, respectively.After decreasing chemical components. Lignocellulose waste could be fermented by solid state fermentation for biogas.

Abstract

The physico-chemical properties and identification of new essential oils from Cinnamomum subavenium Miq (Sabal-sabal) bark prepared by using vacum destillation process is presented in this paper. The bark used was subjected to three different position i e : top, middle and bottom. The physico-chemical properties observed are specific gravity, acid value, ester conent, solubility in ethanol 80 % refractive index at 20°C, and optical rotation. The major components of essential. oils were identified by using peak enrichment technique and retention data from essential oil standart of the Gas Liquid Chromatographic method. In addition, the-yield was determined.The result shows that the yield ranges from 1. 73 - 1. 87 % specific gravity at 25°C from 0. 93689 - 0. 94454, refractive index at 20°C from 1.47966- 1.48542, optical rotation at 25°C from -11°9' to -12°39', acid value from 1,02 – 1.34, ester content from 6.45 - 8.29 and solubility in ethanol 80 % is soluble in 1:1. The composition of major components of the Sabal-sabal oil were iso borneol ranges from 17.75 - 22.15 %, aldehyde C-II from 6.09-17.ll %, cineol from 13.20- 14.23 %, iso bornyl acetate from 5.28 -8.47 %, a terpinyl acetale from 5.21 - 8.81 %. Furthermore some components found in the oil were a pinen, β pinen, terpinene , β caryophyllene, aldehyde C-9, cinamaldehyde and hidroxy citronellol Based on major components and its derivatives the oil is used in the perfumery and flavor industry.

Abstract

This experiment deals with anaerobic decomposition of organic materials into biogas and compost materials using the so called RUDAD (Rumen Derived Anaerobic Digestion) process. the inoculum used in the process was ruminantia microbes living in fistula liquid of goat stomach. The predominantly microbes involved were cilliate protozoa, phycomycetes fungi, anaerobic bacteria. substrates used were King grass, city waste and saw dust with and without agitation during the treatments.The Results showed that the highest biogas production was obtained from King grass i.e 1.06 1/d and 1.20 1/d for those without and with agitation treatments respectively. the highest volatile solid reduction was also obtained from King grass with the reduction of 6.4 percent for the process without agliation and 7.4 percent for the agitated treatment. king grass again showed the highest COD reduction, i.e. 2.0 g/g and 2.3 g/g for those without and with agitation, respectively. Either for cellulose and lignin degradation,King grass gave the highest cellulose reduction of 13.2 percent for the process without and 14.5 percent for the process with agitations, while lignin reductions were 1. 8 percent for the first and 0. 6 percent for the second treatments.

Abstract

Tepung Sagu serta tepung empulur saga selain mengandung. komponen utama pati, juga. mengandung komponen lain seperti protein, lemak, sellulosa, flavan, dan polyphenol. Kadar komponen abus (minor) sering menunjang peranan penentu untuk menyimak kwalitas pati, sehingga analisis kuantltatifnya perlu dilakukan. Study ini adalah untuk memantau keampuhan metoda Anthrone. dalam penetapan kadar selulosa pada tepung sagu dan tepung empulur sagu melalui hidrolisis dengan katalis asam.Dalam kajian ini asam aseto nitrat digunakan sebagai bahan pengendap selulosa dan pengusir komponen lain seperti pati, lignin, ksilosan, dan himiselulosa. Endapan selulosa dihidrolisa dengan 67% H2S04 agar. diperoleh komponen β-D-glukosa. Kadar β­D­ glukosa setelah direaksikan dengan senyawa Anthrone diukur dengan alat spektropkotometer pada gelombang 620u, dimana senyawa selulosa murni (Avicell) digunakan. sebagai senyawa baku yang dibandingkan dengan larutan blanko. Tepung empulur sagu mengandung kadar selulosa yang jauh lebih tinggi dibanding yang terkandung dalam tepung sagu.

Abstract

Several plywood factories in East Kalimantan showed that they use wood waste and diesel fuel for energy sources for power generation and electricity. Five plywood factories surveyed produced wood waste with average of 112,590 cubic m in 1991 and its utilization for energy source amounted to 59,601 cubic m on average, while average consumed diesel fuel was 10,000 litres / month .This study showed that operational cost of power generation on average was Rp 290,394,316 per year in which the cost for fuel was Rp 204,122,020 ( 70 % from total operational cost) while the cost of fuel in the factories that used wood waste was Rp 26,535,863.Besides factories that used wood produced electricilymore, so that average cost / kwh was smaller namely Rp 71.50 / kwh compared with those used diesel, namely Rp 307 / kwh.

Abstract

The experiment is to study the steaming effect of tengkawang seed (Shorea stenoptera) on both yield and quality.The steam period of samples is 0,15,20,25. And 30 minutes at temperature of 97.5°C and at ambient pressure. A sample was extracted by hydraulic prassing at 25 kg/cm2 and temperaturee of 90°C for one hour.The determinations including yield of fat, acid value, peroxid value, saponification value, iodine value. impurity, water content, melting point, and specific gravity.The experiment shows that the more steaming period, the less yield of at. Fat qualities are affected by steaming periods, except Iodine value, Melting point, and lmpurity. However the fat yield and its qulity of the untreated seed is better than the treated ones.
