Abstract

This paper is written based on the research done to the 6th semester students of PGSD (Elementary School Teacher Training Program), Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Terbuka. The study aimed to describe the impact of the implementation of Problem Based Tutorial Model (PBTM) in Classroom Action Research (CAR) tutorial activities on the students’ ability in designing CAR and writing a scientific report. The model is designed to help the students to implement the concept of CAR in their own teaching, and to make the report of the study in a well-written scientific writing. The model consists of Tutorial Activity Unit, Tutorial Design Activity, Student Worksheets and Evaluation Design. The results of study showed that after the implementation of the model the students were able to design a class room action research well. Each part of the report was written appropriately. Part I consists of introduction, part II (review of the related literature), and part III (results and discussion). The first study was done with students of PGSD at Magelang learning cluster. The average scores of the reports was 87, whereas those done in Temanggung was 87,43. This result showed the increase of the students’ ability in writing a scientific report. Furthermore, the impact of the implementation of the model in Pokjar Temanggung showed higher scores than that of the previous implementation (in Pokjar Magelang) with the level of confidence  99%.

Abstract

Public speaking is one of subjects must be attended by students of English Education Study Program. Several constrains were faced by students in performing public speaking. They were related to the limited learning tools and media, teaching methodology, and learning module. This research aims to analyze the effectiveness of public speaking subject module based on IT (Information Technology) applied in public speaking class of students of English Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, PGRI University of Yogyakarta. The module which was applied in public speaking subject used a media learning based on IT.This quantitative research consisted of four procedures. The procedures done were defining, designing, developing, and disseminating. The participants were the students of English Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, PGRI University of Yogyakarta. The data were collected through questionnaires to validate the module, to measure the practicability of the module, and to measure the effectiveness of the module. The module validity and practicability were analyzed qualitatively. Meanwhile, the effectiveness of the module was represented quantitatively. The research has been done. Module of public speaking subject is written well. The media for public speaking activity is represented into three themes. Each theme consists of four main activities. The first is listening activity. The second is giving opinion followed by comprehension task. The last activity is pronunciation task. The research test shows that the enthusiasm mean of using non based-IT media is 22, 33. The enthusiasm mean of using based-IT media is 27, 07. Based on the result of the test it can be concluded that using media based on IT is more valid, effective, and practical than using non-based IT media. It is because using media based on IT can fulfill students’ needs and can enhance students’ interest through learning material.

Abstract

Language competence can be achieved by developing students’ intelligences. However, the fact that students’ potentials and intelligences vary has often been ignored. Appropriate learning activities are therefore needed to help students optimize such intelligences.  This article aims at discussing how language teachers contribute to the enhancement of Multiple Intelligences in foreign language teaching, particularly in speaking classes. The paper also reviews the types of intelligences defined by Howard Gardner and proponents of this theory in terms of language teaching as well as exemplifies pedagogical methodologies by which students’ multiple inttelligence can be activated in speaking activities.

Abstract

For the last decade, Tanzania has suffered setback on number of unemployed graduate. The majority, to certain extent, put on the responsibility to higher institutions because it does not equip graduates with sufficient skills suitable for job demand. This paper highlights the root of such issues, deriving from my experience during three-year teaching assignment in Tanzania. The observation and reviewed on relevant literature revealed that the problem is a result of an ongoing mismanaged education system, starting from lower level of education, and partly the responsible government bodies. Improvements on the system and breakthrough action are salient to provide qualified graduates as the market demands.

Abstract

This study on indigenous healing practices because of the interesting fact that despite the presence of medical advancement, there are still people who have the tendency to consult first a folk healer before seeking the help of modern medical practitioners. And what makes it more interesting is that even professionals seek for the help of folk healers. We may have choices on whom to seek and where to go when we have physical ailments but in this age of modern technology, why such healing tradition continues to exist and co-exist with modern medicine remains a baffling question. But these questions were given answers through this research which aimed at probing into the narratives of the healers and their patients on the curative properties and healing remedies of an age-old tradition. Thus, this is a humble endeavor to sustain the perpetuation of Bicol culture and tradition focusing on the stories on folk healing traditions in order to record, preserve and understand the functions in the society of these indigenous age-old healing practices that are struggling to survive yet undeniably at the brink of extinction. The study focused on the collection, translation, and analysis of folk healing narratives in the selected barangays of Bato, Camarines Sur. The study would like to answer the following questions: (1) What types of indigenous healing practices are evident in the narratives? (2) What do these narratives relate in terms of: (a) Abstract/summary; (b) Orientation in terms of time, place, person, situation; (c) Complicating action; (d) Evaluation; (e) Resolution/Result. (3) What roles in the community do these folk healing narratives reveal? (4) What educational material could be produced to preserve and showcase these indigenous healing practices?            With regard to the scope of the study, it focused on narratives on traditional healing in the barangays of Bato, Camarines Sur namely; Divina Pastora, Tres Reyes and Santa Cruz being the most densely populated barangays in the roadside of Bato, Camarines Sur. The study gave emphasis on the first-hand information based on the personal experiences of the key informants who will be composed of the healers and their patients. It delimited itself to the collection, translation, and analysis of the narratives on folk healing practices and not mainly on the rituals and processes involve in healing.           Further, this study has the intention to benefit some sectors of the society such as the people of Bato; the Local Government Unit of Bato, Camarines Sur; Camarines Sur itself; students who are taking English, Literature and Social Sciences; medical practitioners, the folk healers themselves and future researchers who would like to undergo a study of the same kind and to the researcher himself.

Abstract

This paper aims at describing the stages of developing vocabulary worksheet by using affixes by adopting the process of the same development research of Wutsqo. The stages of vocabulary worksheet development involved the needs analysis, the making of the vocabulary worksheet, the validation process by the reviewer, the make up of the first design based on the feedback by the reviewer, and the try out. the object of this study  was the students of Grammar for English Teacher class of the academic year 2014/2015. The instruments of this study were pre-test as the initial needs analysis of the students capability of vocabulary stock that they had. The third instrument were three two of questionaires. The first one was for the reviewer to validate the first design of the worksheet and to ask for the feedback, and the second one was for the students in order to identify their personal impression towards the worksheet. The results of this study are; 1) Based on the assessment validator can be concluded that the aspect of validity has met the criteria development vocabualry student worksheet to learn the material additive that has been prepared to have a very good quality, 2) Based on the recommendation of experts and providers of materials, practicality aspect has fulfilled the minimum criteria with certain notes on 21st century learning, 3) The results of the pre-test and post-test student learning augmentation material by using SVW has met the minimum criteria of improvement.
