Abstract

This research aims to: (1) improve writing simple scientific report ability through modeling strategy for the students of class VIII A at SMP Negeri 20 Palu Central Sulawesi and (2) describe the improvement of writing simple scientific report ability based on modeling strategy. This research was a classroom action research conducted in two cycles. The subjects of this research were 20 students of class VIII A at SMP Negeri 20 Palu. Procedures for implementing a classroom action research: (1) action planning, (2) action implementation, (3) observation, and (4) reflection. Based on the results of the research on improving writing simple scientific report ability through modeling strategy, it is concluded that there is a significant improvement. The result of the research on pre-action is 58 with the percentage of 18% classical learning achievement. Next, an action is implemented in cycle I with the average score is 71.5 with 50% classical learning achievement percentage. Then proceed to cycle II with the average value of 84.42 and the percentage of 92.85. Based on the result, it can be concluded that using modeling strategy can improve the ability of students in class VIII A at SMP Negeri 20 Palu in writing simple scientific report. Improving students' ability to write simple scientific reports through modeling strategy deserves to be considered as a classroom action material for teachers and subsequent researchers. The final result of this research shows that the application of modeling strategy in learning to write simple scientific report can improve students? competence. Aspects assessed include; systematic of writing, grammar, effective sentences and neatness of writing.

Abstract

This research aimed to explain whether the use of language that contain of language politeness in social network (facebook). This research applied qualitative research which consists of two approaches (theorities approach and methodologies approach). The data of this research  was from written update status of the facebook user fulfill the principle. The data was got by observe  and write down every  data in data card. The data collection was analyzed by using normative method. The resulted of the research indicated that the use of language in social network (facebook) was consisted of politeness language. The form of  language politeness that was found in facebook question,thanked, thankful, hope,request, appreciation, invitation, offering, and information. They were applied in different variety. The differenciate was affected by the speaker, receiver, topic, setting, situation scene and the objective of the topic. Keywords: Lannguage Politeness, facebook.

Abstract

The main problems of this research were (1) what is the form of diction in the sermon of Priest Sefnat Babys at GPDI Persaudaraan of Lariang District, North Mamuju Regency?. (2) How is the form of language style in Priest Sefnat Babys sermon at GPDI Persaudaraan in Lariang District, North Mamuju Regency?. This research also has two objectives, namely (1) describing the form of diction usage in Priest Sefnat Babys sermon at GPDI Persaudaraan in Lariang District, North Mamuju Regency. (2) Describing the form of language style in Priest Sefnat Babys sermon at GPDI Persaudaraan in Lariang District, North Mamuju Regency. This research was qualitative and used descriptive method. The source of the data in this research was Priest Sefnat Babys sermon at both Sunday and youth worship held on Saturday. The data were collected through recording, see and note technique. The instrument in this research was a cellphone to record Priest sermon and stationery to take notes. The data analysis technique in this research follows three stages, namely (1) data reduction, (2) data presentation, and (3) conclusion. In this research found the use of diction and forms of language in Priest Sefnat Babys sermon. The use of the diction form in Priest Sefnat Babys sermon is divided into two, namely based on the form of meaning and based on lexical. Dictation based on the form of meaning is divided into two namely denotative and connotative, while diction based on lexical forms are found in two forms, namely synonyms and antonyms. The use of the language style in Priest Sefnat Babys sermon is divided into three, namely the style of comparison, connection, and repetition. Comparative language styles are parables and metaphors, linking language styles namely antonomia, and repetition language styles namely epizeukis.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to (1) describe the personage character and make a personage in the yesus novel written by Deepak Chopra. Kind of this research is qualitative descriptive. The data which used of this research is sentence, which it gets in the Yesus novel written by Deepak Chopra. The data accumulation of this reseacrh is done with refferences and note form technique. The instrument of this research is the researcher was direct to be a key instrument. While the data analysis technique is done with connecting the problem which it exists about the perconage character and make a personage, and the personality of main personage then will be analyzed using literature psychology investigate. The result of this research are (1) the personage character and make a character in the Yesus Novel is, Yesus, Yusuf, Maria (Yesus Mother?s) Yakobus, Simon, Yudas, Querulus, Mari Magdahlena, Tobias of Personage character, the main character is Yesus who has an honesty character, patient and always helps each other and also always loyal in the learning of religion, the other personage in the Yesus Novel are, Yusuf has a patient and wise character, Maria (Yesus Mother?s) is a woman who has a patient and merciful lord character, Yakobus has a kind character, Simon has a hard Character, Yudas has a hard character and he is a rebel person, Querulus has a helpful and patient character, Maria Magdahlena has merciful lord character and Tobias has a kind and wise character. Abstract

Penelitian ini mengenai penggunaan puisi sebagai bahan ajar khususnya dalam pengajaran Bahasa Inggris sebagai Bahasa Asing, karena membutuhkan strategi untuk memahami pesan di balik puisi tersebut. Salah satu strategi yang bisa dilakukan untuk memahami pesan adalah dengan menggunakan teori Analisis Wacana. Penelitian ini menggunakan Analisis Mikrostruktural dan Makrostruktural dari  Dijk. Analisis Mikrostruktural menggunakan analisis parafrase dan analisis leksikal. Sementara itu, Analisis Makrostruktural menggunakan nilai moral dan memperhatikan latar belakang penyair. Objek penelitian adalah empat puisi pilihan yang merupakan bagian dari buku Poem that Every Children Should know yang diedit oleh Mary E. Burts. Puisi yang diedit adalah Little Things oleh Julia Abigail Fletcher Carney, puisi kedua adalah Twinkle Twinkle Little Star oleh anonymous, puisi ketiga adalah Little White Lily oleh George Macdonald dan puisi keempat adalah How The Leaves Come Down  yang ditulis oleh Sarah Chauncey Woolsey. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa analisis mikrostruktural menunjukkan parafrase yang memudahkan pemahaman dari tiap-tiap puisi. Analisis makrostruktural menunjukkan adanya kesamaan nilai moral dari ketiga puisi tersebut bahwa ada kesamaan yaitu segala sesuatu di dunia ini memiliki peran. Selain itu, ketiga puisi ini bisa diaplikasikan untuk pengajaran Bahasa Inggris. Aspek yang bisa diajarkan meliputi kosa kata, tata bahasa, mendengarkan, dan berbicara

Abstract

The problems examined in this study 1) how the application of methods to improve reading ability SQ3R extensive class VIII SMPN 1 Kasimbar F, 2) how the increased ability to read extensively by applying the method SQ3R F class VIII SMPN 1 Kasimbar. There is also the purpose of this study 1) aims to describe the application of methods to improve reading ability SQ3R extensive class VIII SMPN 1 Kasimbar F, 2) aims to describe the results of an extensive improvement of reading skills by applying the method SQ3R F class VIII SMPN 1 Kasimbar, this study performed two cycles, ie cycle I and cycle II with a target value of the average grade of at least 75 individual kentutasan and classical minimal 80. This research uses a follow-class research. This research uses design research model Kemmis and MC. Tagart, this research is done through the process of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data collection cycle I and II using the test techniques and nontes. Based on the results of the assessment cycle I and cycle II is to determine the contents of paragraph earn 87 rose to 116, determines the content of the news equation 71 rose to 109, determines the difference of news content 85 rose to 111, specify the appropriate information ADIKSIMBA news ketercapain 76 students rose to 114, and concluded 76 news content rose to 105 with the average value of 61.71% first cycle classes. Students who otherwise completed as many as 4 people or 12.5% and students who otherwise did not complete as many as 28 people or 87.5% of the vote the first cycle the average value obtained grade students only reached 64.84% with a classical mastery 18.75 %. Sisklus I read the test results extensively through SQ3R methods have not been successful otherwise. Learning outcomes extensive reading cycle II has demonstrated success with an average grade of 86.25% or completeness mecapai classically by 90.62%. From these findings it can be seen that there is a significant increase from the first cycle to the second cycle so that it can be concluded learning to read extensively by applying SQ3R methods can be improved. It is evident from the first cycle to the second cycle of completeness students increased to 72.37%, so that the target value of KKM can be realized. Keywords: reading extensive, the method SQ3R

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hubungan antara kecepatan membaca dan prestasi membaca. Metode kuantitatif dengan desain penelitian korelasi  digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Populasinya adalah 47 mahasiswa Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Sintuwu Maroso.  Diantara mereka itu, diambil 23 mahasiswa sebagai sample secara acak. Dua variabel bebas dikorelasikan, speed reading sebagai variabel X dan prestasi membaca sebagai variabel Y. Teks dan pertanyaan tertulis digunakan dalam pengumpulan datanya yang terdiri dari 40 item. Yang mana 8 pertanyaan untuk tiap teks. Datanya dianalisis   menggunakan program SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Science)18. Temuannya menunjukan bahwa koefisien korelasi (rxy) adalah 0,977,  dengan menggunakan derajat kebebasan df = N-2 dan tingkat signifikan 0,05 atau 5%. Dengan membandingkan nilai r-tabel 0, 413 menunjukan bahwa nilai rxy lebih tinggi  dari rt (0,977 > 0,413). Dengan demikian alternative hipotesis  (Ha) diterima dan null hipotesis (Ho) ditolak. Jadi, ada korelasi yang signifikan antara kecepatan membaca  dan prestasi membaca.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengembangkan keterampilan menulis mahasiswa khususnya dalam mengorganisasi ide dengan menerapkan belajar mandiri. Subjek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa tahun ke-dua Jurusan Bahasa Inggris Universita Madako yang terdiri dari 23 mahasiswa. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus. Setiap siklus terdiri dari, perencanaan, penerapan, observasi, dan refleksi. Kriteria keberhasilan adalah ?80% jumlah mahasiswa harus mencapai ?65. Siklus pertama menunjukkan bahwa kurang dari 80% mahasiswa yang mencapai kriteria; oleh karena itu perbaikan perencanaan untuk siklus ke 2 dilakukan. Hasil siklus ke 2 menunjukkan bahwa lebih dari 80% mahasiswa memperoleh skor ?65 dan oleh sebab itu siklus di hentikan karena kriteria ketuntasan telah dicapai dan itu berarti bahwa penerapan beljar mandiri effektif untuk mengembangkan keterampilan menulis mahasiswa. Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk membuktikan apakah penggunaan koran dapat meningkatkan pemahaman membaca dalam bahasa Inggris pada siswa siswi kelas X SMK Negeri 1 Rantepao. Di dalam penelitian ini,  peneliti menggunakan quasi experimental design non-equivalenth group yang terdiri dari kelas eksperimental dan kelas kontrol.Peneliti menggunakan purposive sampling dalam pengambilan sampel yang diambil dari populasi kelas X SMK Negeri 1 Rantepao. Instrumen yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah angket dan test. Data analisa dilakukan secara statistik dan deskriptif. Berdasarkan hasil data yang telah dianalisis, ditemukan bahwa 3.52 untuk nilai t-hitungdengan menggunakan dk 37+37-2 = 72 pada taraf signifikansi 0.05. Sedangkan nilai t-table adalah 1.995 Berdasarkan hasil dari data yang telah di analisis tersebut, hal ini menunjukkan bahwa t-hitung lebih besar dari pada t-table. Sehingga, hipotesis dalam penitian ini diterima atau dengan kata lain penggunakan koran memberikan pengaruh penting dalam kemampuan siswa-siswi dalam membaca bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to describe the application of SQ4R Strategy in reading intensive and to improve reading intensive skill at fourth grade students of SD Inpres Kalukubula. Kind of this research classroom action research which implemented at fourth grade student of SD Inpres Kalukubula. This research is adopting a model whish developed by Kemmis through classroom action research planning which implemented by a cycle that is planning, implementing, observation, and reflection. Basd on the result of this research, it is known that SQ4R Method can improve at the fourth grade srudents of SD Inpres Kalukubula in reading intensive. The Result obtained at the cycle 1 that is in the sentence logical aspect of cycle 1 is 33,33% and there is in the cycle II is 85,71%. Accuracy aspect of main sentence which found at the cycle I is 57,14 and cycle II is 90,47%. Aspect of sequence sentence in the paragraph at the cycle I is 42,85 a nd in the cycle II is 85,71%. Aspect of compability sentence with the content of the text at the cycle I is 61,90% and in the cycle II is 85,71%. The comparison of the test result at the cycle I and cycle II can be seen is enough significance, except at the logical unsure of sentence. There is an improvement at the result of the student learning at fourth grade student of SD Inpres Kalukubula had done reading of intensive learning with using SQ4R method with the theme ? visiting an orphanage? at the cycle I and the theme ? school coperation? at the cycle II. The students completeness percentage in intensive reading in cycle I achieve 19,04%, with the average score is 69  and less from the standard of completeness which decided that is 70. At the cycle Ii the percentage comleteness happen an improvement tobe 76,19% with the average score is 83,9 and it had complete standard of completeness which decided. The improvement which happen can be seen from the result which obtained that is the percentage is too improve from cycle I to the cycle II.
