Abstract

In the past, Alun-alun is united with the Keraton complex and present in an axis. The physical elements which forms an axis in Alun-alun are the two banyan trees that form the orientation towards the government complex (Keraton). As the development progresses, Alun-alun is revitalized to adjust current cultural conditions and to improve the quality of the Alun-alun's hall as the city's identity. This research aimed to determine the representation of physical elements which formed an axis in Alun-alun towards the government complex. Habraken's theory on the physical order was considered adequate to dissect the physical elements which formed Alun-alun and lead to the conclusion of this research. Matters that needs to be identified to reach the interpretation stage were identifying levels in nominal classes, namely major arteries, roads, building elements, partitioning, furniture, bodies and utensils. The results indicated that the axis of Alun-alun towards the current government complex was indicated by the physical form of locating the furniture in one axis, forming the pathways, the hardening of soil at the main entrance area and the addition of gates inside Alun-alun. The conclusion of this research was that in the past, the axis of Alun-alun towards the government complex was formed by the belief and symbolic meanings of its cultural life. Currently the axis was formed from the physical element of complementary facilities or infrastructure of economic and social activities as a representation of the axis in Alun-alun towards the government complex.

Abstract

A glass facade is commonly used by modern building nowadays, even in the tropical area with its characteristic. Thus, buildings often face a problem with thermal comfort. Passive design strategy supposed to be considered by the architect in order to avoid inconvenience with the heat. This strategy utilized the architectural element as the tools to reach the comfort level. The aim of this study was to optimize the thermal behavior of the building itself by the modification of solar shading types and materials. EnergyPlus was used as a simulation tool in this study. The results show that solar gain exterior window can be reduced by 52,73% by using concrete louvre and wood louvre.

The data were collected through a two-stage questionnaire. The results of the pilot phase questionnaire were analyzed qualitatively and became the framework of second phase questionnaire. The exploratory research data were then analyzed quantitatively using factor analysis and ANOVA. The results showed that there were 14 dwelling type preference factors with four preference key factors which differed significantly on the importance level valuation of each dwelling type, namely independency, social interaction, freedom, and privacy. Abstract

Kampung is one type of living space in a city with distinctive characteristics. Yogyakarta is one of the cities in Indonesia which still has a village as part of its inhabitant' living space, one of them is a riverbank kampung. The existence of a riverbank creates a unique physical setting in the kampung, which indirectly affects the creation of inhabitant interaction space. The uniqueness and limitations of the space become interesting to be observed further as a basis for understanding local wisdom in planning future village spaces. This study uses an exploratory method, which was carried out by field observations to collect data with case studies in Kampung Gampingan on Winongo riverbank. This study aimed to determine the variations in the physical settings of space used by residents to interact in the riverbank kampung. The results of this study found several characteristics of physical settings of kampung that affect citizens in conducting interactions, as the combination of the enclosure and spatial elements for a variety of community activities. These results are expected to be used as a reference in conducting the arrangement of Kampung Gampingan as one of the slums in the city of Yogyakarta in the future that is accommodating to the characteristics of the setting of interaction spaces of its citizens.

Abstract

Environment (external factors) and user attributes (internal factors) affect the user's response to the environment. This study aims to uncover how the quality of the environment in high school as an external factor and student motivation as an internal factor affects the academic performance of the students. The research was conducted with qualitative and quantitative approach. Data were collected by survey using an online questionnaire. From the regression analysis, it was found that the dimensions of external factors of "classroom order", "social interaction and supervision" and "air quality" further increased the effectiveness of student learning rather than internal dimensions of "resilience and capacity building". Meanwhile, the decrease in air quality, noise, and environmental pollution can cause student learning disruption. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the learning environment plays an important role in shaping the effectiveness of student learning.

Abstract

The tourism potential of Klayar Beach in Pacitan Regency is increasing along with the development of tourism programs in Indonesia which include the development of coastal areas as natural tourism destinations. The development of the coastal area for the development of the potential of local tourism based on nature requires a handling strategy that takes into account a number of considerations that are in harmony with the environment so that disaster-prone constraints can be minimized, including covering aspects of nature conservation. The strategy for developing Klayar Beach can be done through the application of the principles of Ecological Architecture. The research location in the Klayar Beach area is one of the 9 (nine) priority tourism destinations in the Regency of Pacitan. This study aims to find a regional structuring strategy with the application of the principles of ecological architecture, namely optimizing the value of regional potential and still considering the sustainability of nature. The research uses a descriptive qualitative method by conducting surveys through observation, interviews and comparing theories with relevant regulations. The results of the study are regional structuring strategies to develop the potential of Klayar Beach through structuring tourism areas in accordance with local elements and local culture as well as integrated nature conservation so that it becomes a sustainable tourism destination.

Abstract

The Braga area is one of the cultural heritage tourist destinations in Bandung with the attraction of its colonial architecture. The emergence of new buildings in the region is presented without giving attention to the surrounding colonial buildings. The visitor?s perspective on the Braga area is an important basis in regional growth and development. This study aims to find the perspective of visitors based on the correlation between their attraction and expectations of the Braga region. The method used in this study was mixed methods (qualitative-quantitative), and data collection was carried out using a survey through a freely distributed online questionnaire (snowball non-random sampling). The collected data is then analyzed qualitatively using content analysis and quantitatively using principal component analysis, factor analysis, and multivariate correlation analysis. The results of the study revealed the existence of two perspectives, namely appreciative and recreational. The appreciative perspective sees Braga as having an attractive heritage of historical buildings and hopes that Braga will become a conservation area. While the recreational perspective regards Braga as an entertainment area that is unique and hopes for the commodification of the Braga area.

Abstract

Physical and non-physical changes that occur in the new building of the ex-Tjolomadoe Sugar Factory is one of the concrete evidences of conservation that implementing adaptive reuse approach in saving this 157-year-old factory construction. Once, this building actively serves as a sugar factory for many decades and then was abandoned for 20 years. Until in 2017, it was revitalized by changing its function from the factory to a cultural center and commercial area, then changed its name to ?De Tjolomadoe?. This study aims to assess the authenticity of De Tjolomadoe by using the Nara Grid instrument. The research itself runs by combining qualitative and quantitative method with observations, strengthened by interviews and capturing opinions through questionnaire on various groups of people ranging from the layman to the experts. The result then has analyzed into the Nara grid table. It show that the authenticity of the building is still maintained. There are some changes especially in the interior to accomodate new functions, but does not eliminate the spatial form. Abstract

Vernacular buildings in Indonesia, especially vernacular buildings of East Java, are increasingly diminishing. Many efforts have been made to maintain the existence of vernacular buildings, one of which is ex-situ conservation by re-using it adaptively as a tourist destination as found in Kampoeng Djawi Wonosalam. Translocation of vernacular buildings to new locations and new function causes changes in vernacular buildings, particularly in its structure. Changes occur as an adaption to new locations and new activities that will be accommodated. The objective of this paper is to describe the structural changes in vernacular buildings as the result of translocation. Qualitative descriptive method is used to find the structural changes, so the results obtained are actual facts. Changes that occur then analyzed with the concept of adaptive exoskeleton building. According to the results of observations and analysis, changes that occur in vernacular building translocation are caused by resilience, safety, and visual factors, as well as fulfillment of new activities.
